Jonnyguru gives ST55F-PT a 9.3 out of 10 scores!

"The first Strider Platinum unit I looked at was the 750W model, which turned out to be quite decent and yet unremarkable. The 550 watt version changes all that... it's a much better performer, a better value, and is so far not something you can find from anybody else unless you're willing to go with a deeper housing"

hi guys,

planning to built SFF rig
here my spec:

CPU: i5 6500
Mobo: Asrock H110M-ITX
RAM: 8GB DDR4
No GPU (if want to upgrade in future maybe to nvidia gtx *50 or gtx *60)

i think this rig would not require too much power.
so can recommend me any good psu that can last long?
budget : below RM200 (lower is better)

Depending on the case you might want to look at SFX PSUs, but not cheap though. sweat.gif

Corsair SF450 - RM365 (You will need a SFX to ATX adapter, which Corsair sells for RM26 here if the case accepts ATX PSUs). icon_idea.gif

SG13 is ATX PSU compatible, so you can use the normal ATX PSU too.

Hi guys, question about electricity bill costs here.

Alienware just released a new SFF pc (Alpha R2) that has the GTX960 that is about RM400 more expensive (after conversion) than an equivalent SFF rig I plan to build with a Saphire R9 380 ITX compact card. The alienware is smaller and uses an external 130W PSU, whereas my build will be using a 620W PSU.

As I'm a student who will be paying my own electricity bills, how big of an impact will the Wattage difference impact the bills? On paper my SFF mini ITX build would be 5x more power hungry than the Alienware console, which sounds like the money I save on electricity might mean that the alienware is actually more worth it (everything else being equal) Is my reasoning sound though? I've no idea how to calculate impact of PSU's on bills

Last question tongue.gif Is 520 watt enough for my rig? And how about Corsair CX650M, the pricing quite good.

Your rig won't consistently draw 620W from the wall if the hardware don't need that amount of power, the extra watt is for extra headroom for your future upgrade, what you need to compare is the 80+ rating, but the outcome will be negligible.

Based on the parts and the spec sheets of RX 480, 520W is enough.

CX650M's internal components aren't as good as Seasonic M12II EVO series, I will still pick the Seasonic anytime if the budget is around RM 300+.

wanted to ask a question

bought new rig last saturday and recently i heard sometimes there is a small ticking/screeching sound

Is it ok or the PSU needed to be changed?

EDIT: PSU is Corsair VS 550W
