Hahaha...do you think everybody in Brunei is oil baron meh.. car may cheap but others thing expensive back to square one also.
U simply cannot accept the sucess of Almera.
What crappie story u r trying to cook ? car technology need to stayed old to comply with NAP ? so r u saying ur laoya Rio 1.4 with 4AT is to comply with NAP ? that why NASA never bring in 1.6 with 6AT ? total nonsense.
Toyota actually taking the advantages that local consumer mindset, would even buy a kereta lembu so long as a Toyota badge fixed in front of it, anyway I don't see there is any need for it since even the korean r giving old tech eg. ur laoya Rio also giving single vvt 1.4 with 4AT.
Anyway 6AT only suitable for bigger capacity car eg ur laoya Elantra 1.8 fitted with 6AT also useless as it doesn't have enough torque to coup with the 6AT causing it constantly downshift to "search" for gear.
You could check with your product team colleague anytime on the NAP P1/P2 protection. Probably you already know and pretend dumb here. If ruffstuff doesn't believe, he can check with your colleague personally for more info.
Rio is using 2nd generation VVT and despite only 1.4L, it can still get 137Nm that is close to your Almera 1.5L. That's why P1 finds it more of a threat than your crappy Almera for having technically more advance engine, stronger gearbox and higher build quality with much accessories/gadgets. As per the rule, they can't be priced less than RM70k like your Almera. Rio 1.4 come only with 4AT in here and globally. Rio dual VVT 1.6L + 6AT, NASA will bring in after Forte stock cleared.
Toyota Vios is only budget car and because its sales remain unchallenged by other brands, they are holding back the upgraded dual VVTi engine.
If you are saying City/Civic/Accord/CRV 5AT gearbox, they only add in smaller 5th gear to older 4AT gearbox similar to your Almera begins with 2.6 first gear. Such gearbox is nothing more for cruising edge but not from idle.
For Ford, Mazda, Chevy, Pug, Hyundai-Kia, BMW, Merc, etc 6AT, they all come with larger/stronger first few gears where the engine could move the axles at less burden from idle start. Technically good for moving from idle, for cruising, etc. It's good and suited for any size cars, even if the car is small and light, having it is a good thing. That gear hunting feel is to disperse excessive force before engaging lower gear which is a new thing too. You really need to do more homework.
