If I do not want to stop the PTPTN for my new college, do I have to reapply?
But will I need to pay back the original amount they gave me first?

Sorry for these never ending questions >.<

Sorry, but mind to explain more? I don't really get it.

Nevermind, we are here to help each other. I'm also speaking based on my experience. smile.gif

Like I'm switching from TARC to IACT,
Previously I applied for PTPTN for TARC and they already gave half of the amount I've loaned.
So I need to settle the loan in TARC before I can apply for PTPTN for my studies in IACT?

smile.gif

There's a PTPTN centre in KL Sentral right?

Yes, you are right. You need to settle the debt first, unfortunately.
There was this incident when I was doing my course registration in MMU's Exam Unit. This student came and asked for offer letter and etc. He told the Exam Unit that PTPTN already sent him a lawyer letter because he changed his college to university and he is asked to pay back the loaned money for his studies in his former college. sweat.gif So, I assume this case applies to your situation too..

Ya, from the information I got from here PTPTN, there is a PTPTN center in KL Sentral. smile.gif

That's the troublesome part of PTPTN because without LAN approval, you will be rejected with a loan.

I have a colleague who took PTPTN loan and graduated from MMU in EE. Get loan OK, provided there is still money left, the problem is pay back only. IF not mitaken his monthly reapayment is nearly RM600 for 15-20 years.

Cannot be. Those who took engineering course max payback is RM300+ for 20 years from what I know.

Exactly how is the payment back, the formula they put at the website is confusing me. laugh.gif

3% every year, and another 3% the next year? In total 6% in two years?

Ok... Guys.. Please help me.

I did my foundation in mmu. Now i planned to change to another uni for degree. So i didnt yet apply for ptptn for degree loan.

The problem is the ptptn already send me 3rd letter ask me to pay back for foundation. As i want to change to other uni, would they provide a new loan for my degree. Or should i pay back my foundation loan first to apply for degree loan? Please help me.

Feel like jumping from the window because of this money problem. I wish i was stupid enough so that i failed my form 3 but i didnt. I wish i was lucky/smart enough to get seat in ipta. Being in the middle of this two really making me crazy.

ya, i think i got read about that as well in the star not long ago... but that will only start next year...

QUOTE(The Star Online @ Saturday February 17, 2007)
KUALA LUMPUR: The money that parents deposit in the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) before their children can apply for loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN), will not be used as security.

In giving this assurance, Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said there were no plans to use this money in case their children did not repay their loans when they had completed their studies.

"This is for their children's education. Our intention is to get them to save, not take their money.

"In general, Malaysians don't save for education. The Chinese are good at this but we found that not many have saved among the Malays," he said after witnessing the signing of an MoU between Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd formalising an internship programme for UiTM students.

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah and Standard Chartered's chief information officer Edwin Nevis sealed the deal for their respective organisations.

On Thursday , Mustapa had announced that students' parents would have to contribute to the scheme before applying for PTPTN loans.

Parents with a monthly income of more than RM2,000 would need to deposit RM3,000 in the scheme while those with an income below RM2,000 would need to have RM500 before their children can become eligible for a loan.

This would take effect from Jan 1 next year, he said, adding that when students apply for the loans, they would have to show proof that their parents have savings in the scheme.

"Those who are really poor and can't afford it, we will consider their cases as it is important to have access to education," Mustapa said.
and from next year onwards, amout of the loans given will be based on the course taken, total credit hour and the institute's lacation to prevent students from getting more money than they needed. wondering if this is a good idea or not? sweat.gif

QUOTE(The Star Online @ Monday February 12, 2007)
FROM next year onwards, every successful loan applicant will not be getting the standard RM6,500 annual sum from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

Instead, the body will be allocating loans to candidates based on the course taken, the total credit hours involved and the institute's location, to prevent students from getting sums beyond their needs.

Berita Minggu quoted its chief executive Yunos Abd Ghani as saying that this was part of PTPTN's efforts to create a new system to allow for greater monitoring and detailing of the fund.

He said currently all undergraduates in public universities and colleges received a total loan of RM6,500 a year and an additional RM500 for those in science courses.

However, he said, the cost of each course was different, therefore the need to work out the loans according to the credit hours.

"We will study the cost for one course and decide on the funds accordingly. If they apply for more than what they should, we will have to turn them down because they don't need the extra," he said.

Besides that, Mohd Yunos said PTPTN would take the institutes' location into consideration, as the cost of living for students at Universiti Malaya would be higher compared to students at Universiti Utara Malaysia.

He said the new system would not be implemented this year.

hmm.gif If you are going to continue your Degree studies in MMU, you can apply for deferment. Most of my friends are doing this but I already paid back the amount. However, since you are planning to change to other uni, I'm not sure if you need to pay back the amount money you loaned during your studies in MMU before applying for your Degree loan.

Well, just pay off the 5k and you are clear of the debt and having extra RM12.50 being charged incremently as you delay the payment.
No point of having a lawyer letter arriving on your doorstep like a loanshark asking for you to payoff the amount. As fruitie said, you can ask for deferment, provided you get into the new uni, and use that offer letter as a proof and submit it to PTPTN. If they can't really help you, I think you have no choice but to settle it. Best if you could go and nego with them at PTPTN office.

Steve, I think he needs to settle the loan he loaned in MMU before he continues to another university. hmm.gif If he continues his Degree in MMU, he can apply for deferment but his case is different as he wants to transfer to another university. However to sparco, please call the officers and tell them your situation, who knows they will come up with a good solution instead of waiting for the lawyer letter to reach you and you might be denied with a loan for your future studies. smile.gif

Well, what can you expect from a Government's body? laugh.gif You are still lucky on the loan coversion thingy, starting from 2005, nobody is granted with a loan conversion no matter you get a First Class Honours or not.
