As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Lose 1-0. Not bad worh. I was thinking maybe a bigger gap scoreline. Good exposure for the lads. Too bad didnt score any goals. Theres another game to test and expose them. Come on kiko score some goals.

This 3.45am really a headache. Cant seem to stay alive to watch at this time though only a one hour difference

Reporting in.

Btw, really didnt expect much from them. But they do play well. Especially the midfield, are better than the one against Norwich.

Jones did really well for his first game.

unless some clusterfvck happen in the defence department, those two will only feature in CoC/FA cup.

Rafael's backup(Smalling and PJ) are just fresh from the injury and both are needed as CBs. so Rafael just have to suck it up.

oh and the goal we conceded against Gala this morning, it was caused by Rafael being too short laugh.gif well cannot blame him too,it's not that he wanna be that tall.or short

4 points from 12 games by qpr. Mark hughes must be wondering himself why is he still sitting on the gaffer chair. This tony also another fella can still tahan with mark hughes.

I hope united can do qpr a favor by trashing them to pulp. 10-0 or more to give an alarm to tony. If united manage to lose this game i convert be qpr fan.

Why lah? All good buy wearing ManU shirt kena injured like Kagawa? Somemore 1 month? How is MAnU gonna cope in the MF dept?
Why? Why? Why?

And one thing for sure, ManU need Kagawa back ASAP to add dimension to their attack. At least when the wingers like Youngor Valencia are off form, the team still can attack from middle.

That is losing twice for MAnU (Norwich and Gala).
But a good exposure for the lads, IMHO. A good midfield and strikers but lack in finishing by the strikers.

Hopefully SAF do not choose a worst pairing of strikers and CMs like in the Norwich game.
RVP + Hhernandez. Both are waiting to be feed of the ball and nobody does that till Scholes was subs in the later part of the Norwich game.
Carrick + Giggs should not be put together in CM as both can't run fast enough and dribble. IMHO, they are too static in the Norwich game.

i think the lads knew that its a pointless game, so didnt play with high urgency.. thought we did have some good attacking displays. looking at the starting lineup i thought we were good enough for at least a draw, only weak spot is carrick as CB..

Imagine if Fergie got the same in 1990, where would MU be now?

Well just like what fergie always say, football was alittle bit more patient those days. Besides, you know russians. When they have power they are often resolute. Looked at those he brought in, shevchenko, flop. Zhirkov flop. Torres flop. Didnt seem to blame himself at all. Anyone knows any other players he brought in? Flops or not lets hear it.
Well his money got him some trophies but such administration, will it bring lasting loyalty?

Chelsea pretty harsh on RDM. He won the UCL and fa cup last season, and this season they had a great start until losing to us and then drop points against swansea, ,liverpool and lost to wba recently. They are on the brink of being knocked out of the UCL, but not yet they still have the chance to make it into the knockout stage if juventus fail to beat shaktar and chelsea must win their final game. I know chelsea fans have been complaining torres not scoring goals, but RDM should be at least given the chance to make signings in the january transfer window to strengten the squad. Make RA wants pep guardiola tongue.gif. But looks like, benitez is coming back to bpl lol.

Given he has got nothing to do right now i think most likely he would say yes to anything chelsea have to offer.

Rafa Benitez talking about Chelsea in 2007...

Rafa Benitez (in 2007) We don't need to give away stupid plastic flags to our fans to wave - our supporters are always there with their hearts and that is all we need. Its the passion of the fans that helps us win matches - Not flags. Chelsea fans lack passion.

Rafa Benitez (2012) appointed Chelsea interim manager

on benitez appointment..

its great news (rdm sacking particularly). they started this season really well, new signing hit the ground running, injections of youth, play some beautiful football..

so they will start the transition period (again)

rdm striked me as a good guy. cant hate him with chelsea. saf need more powerful rival. saf-wenger rivalry are not used to be nowadays.

saf-mourinho and saf-benitez rivalry are always fun to watch.

benitez will make chelsea more hard to beat and more discipline, tactical -wiser. 4 (regular) forward players they got are really2 good. now it depends on how benitez utilize them.

its a good for us if benitez setup his new team with not-to-lose tactic against city this weekend.. i hope they draw or chelsea win.

Lol dont underestimate benitez. He is pretty cunning tacticaly. Act like budak bodoh with his tiny notebook but when he at liverpool we always lose to his team even with ronaldo around.
He took over after that crazy french gerrard houllier and turn liverpool to a european powerhouse. His good form in knckout games imho proves his tactical ability i think.
I feel his team was also thin during his era jugling somany games. And owner was gillet and hicks. He often have bust up with them owners to get funding to buy players. Hate him but have to show him respect nontheles

Lol my point was to not underestimate him. Yea he went to inter and took over mourinho who has just achieved everything a club can achieve all in one season.i too wonder what happened there. Lack of suport and respect from players? Lack of trust maybe? I dunno maybe you can share some.

Im merely saying despite in general benitez is associated with hate an failure he has his good times whch seems to have been forgotten by the general crowd. He did well in valencia too.

what to expect, he just managed Inter from June until December, Italian league ended in May the following year as well as cup finals laugh.gif

many just didn't notice it was also Rafa who was kind of forgot he's no longer dealing with LFC bosses, utter some kind of ultimatum to Italian mafia in press simply will get you fired laugh.gif

Added on November 22, 2012, 6:03 pmnot saying he's great though biggrin.gif, I never even wished and thought he's gonna be hired by Inter, but to be fair, no justification can be made during his time at Inter imo.

As mentioned earlier, yea, like to see that kind of rivalry between SAF and Rafa, poor RDM, he just made interesting experiment playing Hazard as false 9 and -finally- dropping Torres, Juventus was sharp and managed to exploit their weaknesses.

They way Jose and Ronaldo handle with things is similar and awesome. When furious, instead of throwing bottle, they like to applause. Keep on sarcastic smiling.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones will not change his style to avoid injuries

Manchester United defender Phil Jones insists he will not change the physicality of his game in order to avoid picking up more injuries.

Jones appeared for the first time this season on Tuesday as United were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.

The 20-year-old made his return to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with knee and back issues.

But Jones says he will continue to put his body on the line for United, even if that means incurring more fitness problems.

Asked if he planned to take a softer approach, the youngster said: "No, that's just my game. I am not going to pull out of a tackle for nothing. If that means getting injured, so be it.

"I don't know why I have had so many injuries. If I knew that, I probably wouldn't have gone through what I have gone through.

"It's football; and it happens. You move on. I have spent a lot of time in the gym and done a lot of strengthening and conditioning work. Hopefully that will stand me in good stead."

Jones admits he endured a "wretched" second half to the campaign last season after initially impressing at United following his move from Blackburn in summer 2011.

"It has been very difficult," he added.

"I was in and out of the team in the second half of last season. I couldn't get a run of games together, which was down to the fact I was getting little niggles here and there. I couldn't get match fit. I picked up some pretty horrid injuries and I've had a wretched five or six months.

"I have had my downs. I've been in the gym every day, and that is not easy. I had to concentrate on getting myself fit and worked hard to get to where I am now."

QUOTE
Arsenal players Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsay have joined forces both on and off the pitch by sporting moustaches in aid of this month's Movember.

The footballers proudly showed off their efforts in a picture on Twitter, and Walcott has also been documenting his efforts on his Movember fundraising page.

Movember is an international campaign that happens every November, which sees men grow moustaches in order to raise funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate and testicular cancers.

Ramsay and Walcott are not the only two sportsmen to show their support for the cause.

Stoke city striker Michael Owen tweeted a picture of himself boasting a Hulk Hogan-style handlebar moustache.

Irish international Keith Fahey and rugby player Jamie Heaslip have both sported impressive facial fuzz since the start of the month.

Golfer Padraig Harrington was ranked the number one Movember participant by thescore.com for his thick handlebar-style moustache.

The rules of Movember dictate that participants must be clean shaven on November 1st, and that moustaches should not join up with sideburns or a goatee.

The Football Association will take no action against Mark Clattenburg following Chelsea's allegations that he racially abused John Obi Mikel.

Clattenburg was accused of using inappropriate language by Chelsea after the fractious 3-2 defeat against Manchester United. Specifically, he was accused of calling Mikel a "monkey".
Last week, the Metropolitan Police, who were also investigating the incident, said they would take no action against the Durham official. And now the FA have cleared the official of any wrongdoing.
An FA statement read: "The FA has concluded its investigation into alleged misconduct by Mark Clattenburg during the match between Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC on Sunday 28 October 2012. No disciplinary action will follow against Mr Clattenburg."
Chelsea are holding a press conference this afternoon, at 5.30pm, to unveil new manager Rafael Benitez, an event which now risks being overshadowed by the criticism which is bound to be shown in Chelsea's direction.

The FA's investigation found the following:
"The evidence for the allegation came from one witness, Ramires. Ramires, whose first language is not English, explained that his instinctive reaction was to seek confirmation from John Obi Mikel as to what the referee had said.
"John Obi Mikel, who was being spoken to by the referee, was much closer to the referee than Ramires and did not hear what it is suggested was said to him.
"Three other witnesses, i.e. the other Match Officials, to whom everything said by referee was relayed via their communication equipment, are adamant the alleged words were not uttered.
"There is nothing in the video footage to support the allegation.
"For completeness, but of lesser weight, two other players, whose first language is English and were in the vicinity, did not hear anything untoward."

King joins Berg at Blackburn

QUOTE
Manchester United forward Joshua King will spend the rest of 2012 with Blackburn Rovers following the completion of his loan move from Old Trafford.

Former Reds defender Henning Berg, recently appointed as Blackburn boss, has snapped up his fellow Norwegian as he bids to steer Rovers back into the top flight. King will no doubt be in confident mood for the weeks ahead, having made his second senior appearance for the Reds in midweek - albeit as a late substitute in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.

The 20 year-old could make his Blackburn debut in Saturday's home match against Millwall. Rovers are currently sixth in the Championship after winning 4-1 away at Peterborough, the side managed by Sir Alex Ferguson's son Darren.

But i hope this dont happen. All our wingers are of better quality than walcott, so just no. If i am playing fm on the other hand, i might get him, play him in cup games and sell him off the next season to make some bucks laugh.gif

Btw, we have a new statue of our current manager over at old traffor, it makes me wonder if chelsea is ever going to have one anytime soon laugh.gif

The last thing I want is to see a siege mentality on the QPR players. And with our leaky defense, who knows if United might get sucker punched with a counter attack.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been passed fit to face Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford.

Rooney missed last week's defeat at Norwich with tonsillitis but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he would return for Saturday's fixture.

Chris Smalling has overcome a shoulder problem but Jonny Evans, although back in training, will not feature.

Manchester United's Josh King completes Blackburn move

Blackburn have completed the signing of striker Josh King on loan from Manchester United until January.

The Norway international, 20, becomes compatriot Henning Berg's first signing and could eventually make a permanent move to the Championship club.

King, who has one goal in four games for Norway, has made just two substitute appearances for United.

He played the final five minutes of the Champions League defeat by Galatasaray in Turkey on Tuesday.

During his time at Old Trafford, Oslo-born King has had loan spells at Preston North End, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hull City.

At Blackburn, he will be competing with Jordan Rhodes, Colin Kazim-Richards, Ruben Rochina, Nuno Gomes for a starting spot in attack.

Rovers moved into the Championship play-off places with a 4-1 victory at Peterborough last weekend, with record signing Rhodes netting a hat-trick.

Fergie aims dig at Benitez

QUOTE
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has wasted no time in hitting out at old foe and new interim Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez. Ferguson and Benitez had a heated rivalry during the Spaniard's time in charge at Liverpool, with Benitez claiming Ferguson received lenient treatment from referees, while the Scot questioned his managerial counterpart's state of mind as Liverpool ran United close for the title in 2009.

And Ferguson has now expressed his disappointment at the sacking of Benitez's predecessor Roberto Di Matteo, before having a dig at the "lucky" ex-Inter Milan boss who will take his new Chelsea side to the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December.

"Everyone feels for Roberto Di Matteo, and quite rightly,'' Ferguson said. "It is quite amazing when you think that he has won the FA Cup and the Champions League.

"The biggest disappointment for me is that in two weeks' time they are going to the world championship (FIFA Club World Cup). You would have thought they would have waited to give the guy a chance to win it.

"Rafa Benitez is very lucky because on his CV in two weeks' time he could have two world championships to his name - and has had nothing to do with the teams. Jose Mourinho won the treble with Inter Milan. He (Benitez) took over and won the world championship without having to do anything and having nothing to do with the construction of the teams.''

QPR to face us without a manager. Not saying they too can't win against us. But dont u think Fernandes did that on purpose? I said it here first before other fans commenting that we got so much connections, FA need to investigate this lol

Redknapp took out bottom of the table club and survive. Portsmouth. Spurs. And now Rangers. I have a strong feeling he could make it. If not, at least he try.

On the other hand, Benitez waited for 2 years for a top club... whistling.gif

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez's comments about Chelsea are coming back to haunt him.

Benitez was unveiled as new Blues manager yesterday.

However, back in 2007, Benitez declared: "Chelsea is a big club with fantastic players, every manager wants to coach a such a big team. But I would never take that job, in respect for my former team at Liverpool, no matter what. For me there is only one club in England, and that’s Liverpool.

"If Chelsea are naive and pure then I’m Little Red Riding Hood."

Former players including Eric Cantona, Andy Cole, Denis Irwin, Gary and Phil Neville, Bryan Robson, Peter Schmeichel, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Edwin van der Sar and Dwight Yorke were present while Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham pre-recorded tributes apologising for their absence.

i had goosebumps reading this paragraph.

Actually some of them don't know about "Man U" thingy. They thought its normal, even espn also uses MAN U to show the scoreline.

I MAY FINISH QUITE SOON, SAYS SIR ALEX FERGUSON

SIR ALEX FERGUSON unveiled a statue of himself at Old Trafford yesterday – then hinted he could call it a day next year.

QUOTE
A veritable A-Z of Manchester United players, past and present, gathered to see the nine-foot statue, by Philip Jackson, at the entrance to the stand that is named after the club’s longest-serving and most successful manager.

Ferguson, who will be 71 on December 31, said: “I’ve had 26 years at the club so far. And when the time comes and I decide to hang up my boots at – who knows? – maybe 27 years, I think it will be a testimony to the work I’ve done at the club. And that’s fantastic respect to be paid.

“This is an honour and I’m so proud of it. I was quite startled, to be honest.

“You feel a bit vain when you realise you are looking at yourself, but it’s a fantastic piece of work. The difference is it’s happened when I’m still the manager, so it makes it more difficult.

This is an honour and I’m so proud of it. I was quite startled, to be honest

“My wife found it hard to understand. Normally these things are done after you’ve passed away or you’ve left the club. I have had an incredible journey at this club and I’ve had so many great players. They should build this statue for them all, because they’ve been absolutely marvellous.

“From 1986 to today, the players have given us enormous pleasure. Everyone has had a part to play, from the players to the coaching staff and the fans.”

Well players and coaches come and go and it is hard to accept when it comes to SAF the man who single handedly kicked Liverpool off their perch. But You can't expect SAF to coach MU until he pass away right lol.
So what we hope now is the successor of him with be as good as him. Or around his level. Pep perhaps?

Once again the subs made the difference. They knew we were relying on Scholes and slow play in the rain but Anderson brought power and pace into the midfield.

another terrific comeback win..aiyo everytime mufc played like that in the first half thru the middle, teams kao kao packed their defense and just play counter-attack against us. sweat.gif

hernandez..hopefully this fella will stay with us for many more years..like his attitude towards the game..always good with first touch and unselfish play.

I really suspect that our players (including the gaffers) are masochists, need to be burn on the butt, and only then will have the "high" to play serious footie...then after going 2 goals up will back to flaccid mode again....haih

Too many comeback wins that I feel numb to it already. I remember jumping and screaming when Macheda scored against Villa or when Owen scored against Citeh. But just now I just gave a weak shout laugh.gif

Rooney very industrious. He is everywhere. He was even running back to cover defence gap when theres a counter attack. He was playing deep and alot on the left, maybe saf want see him cut in and make more shots but too bad he seem to pass more.
Ando and fletcher is good there in mid, they will still inprove on their game so i really wish saf only use giggs and scholes only as last resort.
Class winger? Belilah reus rclxms.gif

Btw, we did comeback and Fletcher play his first PL full 90 minutes. Even scored to give us the lead. notworthy.gif

Scholes's yellow card is his 5th of the season which means he will be suspended against West Ham.

Hope to see more of Ando + Clev. But next week maybe SAF will opted for Carrick.

But Ando really really have to improve his stamina. After 70-80 minutes, he will just walking. laugh.gif

I never knew that when Carrick is missing, fletch will be the scapegoat. It's great to do comeback but if norwich or spurs game situation arise, it'll bite us hard.

I think the most convincing win without conceding goal was against Newcastle.so happy for fletch to score.

Young had to be dropped for this midweek or come as substitute even we're up against West ham at home. His confidence is shattered and his form carried from end of the last season.poor euro and injury are not helping him either.

Evans is fantastic.Hope smalling also get better to push evans to become better.

feel sorry for my father. he's united fan, my football watching buddy, and he have a heart problem.. the way united always need to fighting back from a goal/s behind will make no good to his heart condition..

to start with young starlets (cleverley/anderson) or an old guards (giggs/scholes). im torn, but i think we need to trust the young ones more especially at home turf.

im really frustrated with welbeck and young. but welbeck is not play in his preferred position. its understandable..

3pts are all matter. hopefully we'll keep the momentum onwards visit to ettihad.

hoping a draw for chelsea-city, the best result for united. but i dont mind to see benitez win to ensure united stay at top. dont mind to see he lose too.. all win for me..

Id think rooney is always the one looking eager most of the time. Our midfield wouldnt hold themself that well if its not for rooney.
Rafeal too is another good looking player, hardly ever put a foot wrong and hardworking.
These 2 made the most contribution most of the game imho.

I still found Rooney once in the match was the deepest player in defence covering QPR's player in their counter attack, that's simply stating his hardwork.

One of highlights of the match was also Rooney's corner, this match and Newcastle's one are indication that our attacking set-piece is getting better this season.

Fletcher was fine, with the return of Fletcher, I think it'll be okay for Scholes to retire for the sake of regeneration, but if he wants to stay also fine, he still has the quality. If Fletcher will manage to return to his best, I won't be surprised if he'll take over Carrick's spot too, or manage to be regular partnership with Carrick in the middle.

good second half, Rooney-Chicharito-RVP combination again proved to be our best strikeforce at the moment imo, supported by the mobility of Ando, which I still rate higher than Cleverley.

Hoping Benitez and Torres to shine tonight lol

Some general question for you guys.
Sometimes after the match ended, when a certain player wants to exchange jersey, the other player refused and always pointing to somewhere. I wonder what is actually the player said and pointing to. I mean, they obviously wont say "you are not famous enough so i dont want your jesey". Or did they say "that guy asked me first", or "the boss/sponsor wont allowed it", "or "ill give you in dressing room". Saw it last night with chica, and before this countless of time by other players.
Anyone know?

this first tie will be played in Stamford Bridge and Chelsea is 4 points lower than City, I'll prefer Chelsea to beat City rather than draw, eventhough draw is still nice.

Contrary to popular believe clubs do re-use their shirts for future games. Man Utd is known to do that, as last season or the season before, Vidic was seen using a shirt that has the same red stain on the BPL badge on the sleeve. The red stain was due to "bleeding" from the shirt to the white patch, and in multiple matches he wore the shirt with the same bleeding pattern on the shirt. Also some collectors who are close with the club do say that Utd do re-use their shirts.

Then again it could be something else, because i dont think the players follow it very strictly also. RVP threw his shirt to fans a couple of times. Maybe it's "i'll give it to you in there", after all it is winter over there now.

Benitez: I deserve to be at Chelsea

QUOTE
Rafael Benitez has rejected suggestions that he accepted a seven-month contract to take over at Chelsea in a bid to revive his battered reputation, after claiming he deserves his place among the elite managers in world football.

Rafa Benitez press conference Chelsea
PA PhotosRafa Benitez believes he is worthy to be Chelsea's manager

• Preview: Chelsea v Man City
• Delaney: Benitez's plans for Chelsea
• Blog: What to expect from Rafa

Former Liverpool manager Benitez will take charge of Chelsea for the first time against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with his self-belief restored to the level of his coaching glory days at Valencia and Anfield.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson may have been quick to suggest Benitez was 'lucky' to be handed the keys of power at Chelsea after he was hounded out of Liverpool and Inter Milan in chastening fashion back in 2010, but Benitez insists he has nothing to prove as he makes his return to the Premier League.

"How many top jobs have been available in the last two years? Not too many," Benitez said. "So if you have maybe eight top managers and only one or two teams available, you do not have too many chances. For me, I was waiting for the right one and it was not there. Now I have a top club and I think I can do a good job.

"Every year you see new managers because the way football is going on, not too many people can cope with this pressure and keep winning. So I had a lot of confidence I would get a job, a good job. Which one? This one is a great opportunity. It doesn't matter that it's for seven months, even three months."

Chelsea supporters who are preparing a hostile welcome party for the club's new manager when he takes charge of the European champions for the first time against City may dispute Benitez's confidence that he should be recognised as one of the coaching giants of the modern game.

However, Benitez has stated that he is returning to the game with a glut of fresh ideas, as he believes some time away from the game has allowed him to re-evaluate his coaching ideals.

"I was forced to take a break from the game after leaving Inter Milan and it has taken me until now to find a way back," he said. "What I can guarantee is when you come back you are more focussed, you have better vision and you have more commitment. Sometimes when you are working, you are working so hard that you don't see everything.

"Now, when I watch the Champions League Final, it gives me new ideas. You watch another game, you have an idea and so you're ready for the next challenge. For me, this challenge is at Chelsea."

Meanwhile, Benitez has suggested he holds the key to reviving £50m misfit Fernando Torres at Chelsea, after claiming the striker he turned into a world-class superstar at Liverpool will benefit from his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

"My job now is to find out why he is not scoring as many goals as he was at Liverpool and I have my ideas," he said. "With Fernando, you have to put your arm around the shoulder and push him."

Every team reuses their jersey because i read before in united magazine on an article about the cleaner/laundry ladies who washes their kit after each game. Though i doubt the club would stop any players from making an exchange most likely due to the player own personal reason. Cant be too sure on other team though but my guess its the same.

Ando fletcher clev and powell and carrick as midfielder should suffice imho. I do think scholes still has qualities in him but not as a first team option. More like back up for this season, should hang up his boots by the end of this season. With somany options available it might just end up headache for saf he cant grow better anymore.

If this is true,i will be the happiest person on earth. Imagine him taking over, managing us for the next 20 years just like SAF. SIR Alex will prepare a good and young squad for him to manage(de gea, jones, smalling, buttner, rafael, cleverley, welbeck, kagawa and more) Then pep can take some of barca's players to manutd on loan brows.gif

Guardiola eager to succeed Fergie

QUOTE
Pep Guardiola could succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United boss when the 70-year-old retires, according to reports.

Rafa Benitez is believed to be a temporary replacement at Chelsea as owner Roman Abramovich attempts to lure Guardiola into a full-time position at the club for next season.

But while Guardiola has remained coy on his future after a hiatus from the game, the Sun has reported that the Spaniard is set to turn down Chelsea's offer and wait for a move to Old Trafford.

"The whole history of Manchester United, his relationship with Sir Alex and the way the club is run appeals to Pep," a source close to Guardiola told the Sun. "Right now I'd be astonished if he went to Chelsea. He really wants to wait for the United job even if it means extending his time out of the game."

It is believed that Abramovich's influence on the playing style at Chelsea has deterred Guardiola.

But it would be nice to have a 'long term' successful manager. Sort of brings a different kind of stability to the team. Something u dont see in other teams in the league

Sir alex has been a man utd manager ever since i started watching them as a kid. I kinda like how sir alex is associated almost synonymously with manchester united. Will be a big lost when he finally calls it a day. Dont know bout u guys, but 10-15 years from now id Feel so proud that we were there when SIR ALEX FERGUSON was creating history.

I would prefer mourinho rather than pep anyday because at the very least he had manage acouple of club before while pep only managed fc barca.
I mean almost any manager can achieve success with a team comprises of such players like barca. At least its going to be easier. Though maybe he managed to create a sucessful tactic for barca to play on but it may not happen for united.

Jose on the other hand has been succesful in few different clubs and winning the ucl too even with the underdog porto.

Besides i like it when he pokes at manager.

we waited 15 years after Sir Matt Busby to get to Sir Alex Ferguson, this is how hard it is to find a manager worthy of long term management, and we're extremely lucky as some other club didn't even got that kind of chance (and even if they managed to get their manager to stay for 10+ years, they can't maintain the kind of success that SAF brought)

so finding someone who can stabilize the ship and has enough personality and ego to handle the burden and expectation during this transitional period would be the priority, hell if Guardiola decides to take another sabbatical 3-4 years from now I am ok with it since his successor will face less burden as our expectation is lowered by the time

mourinho seems a logical choice. IF mourinho would one day managed mufc and then resign/quit, hopefully that clown benitez wont take up the mufc job.. vmad.gif

benitez seems to like mourinho "teams"...

Lol benitez can be good and can be a good shot but no fans would want him if given the choice. Look at how chelsea fans are moaning about his apointment. Heck even liverpool fans dont want him back.
Arsene, i think unlikely la. He should consider retiring soon la since his arch rival also retiring.
Moyes is interesting but he no exposure with big teams. He should takenthe opportunity to manage some bigger clubs outside of epl. I not so confident with his appointment though he seems good. Cant blame me because saf shoe is a very big one to fill.

Liverpool draw laugh.gif
Damn they crowd the midfield la like kampung match man. Liverpool should consider moyes but i doubt he wants the job.
Next manager on the hot seat, mancini and brendan.

City looked the better team. Chelsea manage to go forward but torres either did nothing or just cancel of their attacks. Their midfield looked the weaker side too but still an open game. Surely going to be some goals.

Their fans has got alot of anti benitez ply card too. Why i no see anti abramovich card i wonder laugh.gif
