actually i'm using 25gm with 400ml of water... which is a little more than the normal 1:17 ratio... 40gm to 400ml will be too strong

didn't have a choice that time since i couldnt get the Porlex grinder...

and preggy wife just took 2-3 mouths out of that 2 cups, ended i had trouble sleeping cos the starbucks beans have very hich caffeiene content doh.gif

so now just make a cup and share during the weekends

thanks for the sites, maybe i can try that ratio with more stale beans laugh.gif

Preggy no coffee man, my wife stay away at all cost.
U don't like strong coffee..
I like my strong, used to double shot.

lucky u can refund, buy in EU generally no refund or just store credit.

Yes, do your research well step down transformer is expensive may not be worth the savings.

Even buying from Japan take note. I am looking at hario siphon for fun the electric ones voltage diff.

Always check manual or email company customer rep if item support 110-220v b4 buying

For stepping down, I heard you need 3x the wattage to have full performance. To me it not worth the trouble at all. That transformer cost a lot.

I almost hooted a Brevile ($200 plus USD) some time back and the same went OOS very fast. Heng didn't buy.

well u can risk damaging both equipment in the long run.

Any thoughts on Philips Saeco Poemia HD 8323?
*
buy it locally with warranty. reliability or QC on the lower end machines may not be great.
they usually noisy for such machine.
they may only last 3-4yrs tops. So if U looking to change by then U have a better budget of course factor in the inflation.
My Solis lasted like 6-7 yrs and still works but black stuff coming from boiler and leaking. I expect 5yr+ need to change gasket but since machine discontinued no way to get parts. I got it cheap so happy it lasted that long.

i suspected that too this morning as i was in a hurry!!
i think i left the boiled water to cool for around a min while i was busy grinding the beans...

underextraction... will try again tomorrow morning laugh.gif

*
good luck!

some ppl have very good palate can taste stale coffee easily even using any brewing method.
so many rules ppl use.. 15, 12. not seen anything longer.
on coffeegeeks most ppl refuse to buy starbucks.. no date == stale coffee the moment u buy it.
others (few/handful) will just stock a 5lb beans and use them slowly without telling much difference.
bottom-line let your tongue decide.

Usually home machines like De'Longhi or Philips Saeco would last longer in Malaysia compared to the States because of the water hardness level. Malaysian waters are pretty clean, so you don't have to descale the machine every so often.

As long as you use the machine within the parameters it's specified for.. I guess it will last 5 years or more.
*
water hardness may not the cause of machine failing.
my experience with Krups is pump fail after a few months, ship machine back get a NEW machine and after few mths still break down and this time thing wouldn't heat up.

800 RM level machine I wouldn't set expectation so high to say it last over 5yrs. budget equipment may not be engineer to last for the longest time. set a lower expectation, if it last that long its a bonus, expect too much and fails leads to great disappointment.
even my Samsung range the electronics fail on the 11 mth, good for me get new board hope it last longer this time.

Nowdays I do french press at home, I realize, at home (I bought starbucks dark roast), at starbucks or at coffee beans, I always get the black coffee that I like.

And when I start going to these coffee shops like, Artisan, or Whisk, their coffee always taste sourish to me, is this normal? Or this is what they call Flowerly taste?
*
Are they dark roast?

It will be out of your range when they get launch.
They are getting funding fast.
If they are performing as advertised it's not priced higher than their competitors. If u don't make espresso a cheap hario will do

And thanks to patryn, I pledged for the ROK grinder at $129.. I'm just a sucker for manual grinders.. I'm a little skeptical about the delrin gear and the wobbly burrs though. Anyway, my PF holder from the HG guys have a delrin collar.. It's like a tank.. So I hope it's as tough.
The project is backed quick
Do provide review when u receive it come may!

Here you go
http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a230r...id=&abbucket=15

This model I ordered back there during 11.11 is 398 CNY without the hand grinder free gift. And + 6kg shipping fees to Malaysia is around RM320 and that time I feel very lucky nad happy cause it's quite cheap. But after that don't know is the problem of diff courier I use this time tell me that this coffee machine is categorized as Special Goods which means that I need to top up around RM100 for 6kg Sepcial Goods which Special Goods cost 118 CNY for the first KG and 23 CNY for the subsequent 0.5KG. This give me almost a heart attack shock cause I bought a 5 bar espresso machine few months ago and it did not categorized as Special Goods  cry.gif  cry.gif  I'm just a UC student and I feel that it is quite pain to spent almost RM220 on the shipping fees which with this price I can get another machine that cost 398 CNY   shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif . Besides that, I found that I can get a Delonghi EC155 for this price range during Black Friday sales from Amazon or RM449 from Senheng

http://www.senheng.com.my/christmas-sales-...-dlh-ec155.html

Now I am still blaming for the shipping fees  mad.gif  mad.gif  vmad.gif
*
looks like U paid over rm$500 to get the taobao produc. it pays to do a little more reseach at times b4 jumping on a deal.
if U get a delonghi here still have warranty, taobao no warranty really....
its a risk u have to take

Blade grinder actually quite bad one... It tend to grind until all powder stick together. So during grinding need to shake shake shake. Coffee come out also more on the bitter side. I got a Krups one. Now me buying ground coffee instead. If bean then grind at the shop.

I read someone here using Akira (M 520A or something) grinder. Just wondering how is it compared to angmor brand electric burr grinder, particularly on espresso. One of the coffee shop boss also recommended me that grinder. According to him, the grinder does a good job.

yea im making espresso
currently using delonghi ec155 , non pressurized basket , im using krups gvx2 grinder
i asked one of my friend which had gaggia mdf to grind the beans for me , its pretty much the same finest if compare to krups gvx2
i wondering if the grinder really helps to improve the espresso extraction?
*
I have to agree with mel5582, which is why I enjoy stepless can better fine tune it. I only do it in the weekend.
do read the article mel5582 posted.

if U watch those barista competition youtube alot of time they focus on grinder. they not too concern with pressure and temp.
on the forum ppl are very concern on pressure doing it ~9bar and temp of water hitting the grounds.
