Just slowly learn and adventure to drink many type of coffee. And different country taste.

I like to smell the coffee before drink. Some can produce strong smell. Some is so so. Machiine brew can give strong smell from the bubble burst. Siphon too can give strong smell.

I don't have machine and lazy to brew. For everyday drink, I burn the instant coffee by very hot water. That can give nice smell. thumbup.gif

Sometime water do give bad taste to coffee in my opinion. Some water contain too strong chlorine ruin the coffee taste. Dont like the chlorine taste in the coffee.

i like to smell 'em too. read in some materials saying, the way we taste the coffee via tongue, is not as sensitive as if you smell it, that include, u start smelling it, it went into ur nostril and have some "chemical reaction" with ur body, u exhale, and also, after having a sip, letting it hovering in ur mouth and let the senses travel through the back of your throat and come back out from nostril...

it is complicated sweat.gif sweat.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif but.. what the hell, just enjoy, kakkaka... i love going into cafe, jinyi or wherever and inhale deeply the moment they start grinding the beans... wub.gif wub.gif awesome experience!

I like expresso. But rarely drink. First it too small cup. Which give me too short time to enjoy. And I cannot drink too much as it too strong. Mostly, I take 2-3hr to slowly sipping coffee in a tumbler. Tumbler can keep the drink hot for long. I take 250-300ml coffee aday.

Nescafe have no more taste for me. Tak da rasa. biggrin.gif

My weekend, weekday, in fact everyday coffee is still instant biggrin.gif , its still the easiest to make. I tried Vietnamese coffee, nice but a little strong for my taste, I will drink espresso once in awhile but frankly its also a little strong for my liking. I do get Vietnamese coffee once in awhile from friends who go there, even Vietnamese Nescafe, so Ill drink whatevers been offered. tongue.gif

cg: thanks for sharing! that's awesome lot that u've grabbed in one(?) session? jin yi/coffee ritual bunch are nice folks. i wish i have more time to visit them more frequently.
yes a machine like that is exp, i used to see them in harvey norman ( both the entry and high end levels), but as coffee culture getting more and more developed here, u'd have various importer bringing in different machines from different countries / manufacturer.
the million dollar question might be - as much as we enjoy, or would like to savor a good cup on the weekend, would we have the time on weekday to go through all the fussy nitty gritty of making a good cup (esp in view that we aint prof trained barista that everything, literally eveyrthing could go wrong while pulling a cup(of coffee) ourselves), which end up, we might run the risk of loathing the few k machine for not having good result (but in real fact, it was prob due to us not realizing mistakes somewhere along the way?!) )

having said that, i think the "hot water tap" u are refering to, is that really the function of dispensing hot water, or was it the wand on the right hand side? if it is the wand, then that is actually the frothing wand that help u to froth ur milk ( to have those "bubbled milk"/ "air-ed milk", or milk foam). other than that, if u are refering to the function of dispensing hot water, i suppose when u are making coffee from the machine, u dont want the hassle of running over to the tap get water, boil water, and end up adding in some water which the temperature is no inline with what u have already extracted to ur cup....

Youre welcome and thanks biggrin.gif , its a topic of interest to me since ive always liked coffee, so quite easy to pick up...youre right about the fuss and nitty and gritty of preparing that perfect cuppa, especially on weekdays, and of cleaning up after cry.gif and of spending a few k on a machine. Have to weigh the pros and cons.

Yup, that hot water tap will come in handy for pulling long blacks, americanos etc, so i guess having one would be useful.

@ stevanistelrooy, really like the 'flaming double bacardi expresso', is there a real flame there?

Heres a pix which i think you guys might find interesting, shot this in Typica, Shaw Parade, tried a Brazilian named brew or something, forgot the name and it really gave me a buzz, really strong. I didnt try the Kopi Luwak tho, dont think Im gonna poney up for that cup tongue.gif .

I have stock alot of viet coffee. Specially G7. While nescafe viet not much. Those who go viet, I will ask them to buy as much as they can carry. biggrin.gif

G7 should be good for you. The taste is above nesacafe but not that strong. Cheap too.

My morning ritual is either pour-over (V60) or AeroPress.

I usually buy my coffee beans (mostly single origin) from Departure Lounge / Artisan Roast / Coffee Famille / Coffee Ritual / EspressoLAB. Artisan Roast has the freshest coffee beans as they roast twice a week.

I'm a heavy coffee drinker (3~5 cups a day), recently I've been trying to grind the coffee and put them in empty tea bags (got them from Daiso). When I'm in the office i can just add hot water to it, much better than instant coffee smile.gif

I've been so busy that I don't drink as much coffee and I find my beans getting stale because I can't finish them.

How long does it take for you guys to finish your coffee beans? I wonder how long they can be kept for the usual brands.

I might actually have to grind my beans the night before (please don't crucify me coffee lords lol) because I need to leave home early in the morning.

Im not sure if its the right way for storing coffee but theres some containers that are vacuum sealed, u can pump out the air and make it air tight..easy to re-store...its still on sale in Aino Living and called vacuumsaver, i think it should be able to store longer than most other plastic containers biggrin.gif

Im not selling or promoting ah..just an end users opinion and im sure there are many more other types/brands which are similar if not better tongue.gif

I usually finish my coffee beans within 2 weeks from the roast date (not the same as expiry date).

Standard coffee package is 250gm, it's hard to finish if you only drink 1 cup a day.
That's why I like to buy beans from cafes that offer small batch package, such as Departure Lounge (100gm) and Coffee Famille (150gm).

If the original "one-way-valve" package is not opened, coffee beans can be kept fresh up to 1~1.5 months.
But once the package is opened, the coffee beans will become stale within 10~14 days due to oxidation and aroma dissipation.
Putting them in vacuum container will help extend their freshness.

I don't buy coffee beans from supermarket as most of them don't state the "Roast Date" on the package.
The "Expiry Date" or "Best Use Before" date tells you nothing about its freshness.
