Still coffee noob...anyways I learnt that to make good coffee/espresso can be an art form that might be worth learning..since i enjoy coffee and so does everyone at home plus most of everyone i know

This is what i learnt...aside from great beans, grinder is very important...good and fresh coffee beans and a good grinder..the basis of great tasting coffee, many people apparently neglect these. Grind only what you need. A burr grinder is preferable, thats what i learnt..dunno why yet
Those moka pots and french presses do their job but a good prosumer espresso machine cant be beat in terms of producing great tasting espresso eg the Nuova Simonelli Oscar (thx to TS who reminded me the brand) , the nitty gritty of it, which i also took the time to research is that this little machine uses a heat exchanger as opposed to a boiler, uses same steam vent and porta filter and stamper as the bigger machines, hence easier to get replacements. Not to mention a better and richer tasting espresso. Plus youre able to produce microfoam from the steamwand, which a milk frother cant. And the temperature is more even.
Another upside is that you get quality espresso of your own strength and taste and hopefully cheaper in the long run, in the comfort of your own home, anytime of day.
Downside is the price, a machine like these is not cheap, plus i hate to think what happens if it breaksdown.
oh..and the drinking cups should preferably be warm, these machines warm cups too..cant remeber why it has to be warm tho

Im sure theres lots more reasons, im no expert but thats what i learnt and know.
I tried the dolce gusto..not really to my liking.
Anyway Im curious as to how important is having a hot water tap in a machine?
cg: thanks for sharing! that's awesome lot that u've grabbed in one(?) session? jin yi/coffee ritual bunch are nice folks. i wish i have more time to visit them more frequently.
yes a machine like that is exp, i used to see them in harvey norman ( both the entry and high end levels), but as coffee culture getting more and more developed here, u'd have various importer bringing in different machines from different countries / manufacturer.
the million dollar question might be - as much as we enjoy, or would like to savor a good cup on the weekend, would we have the time on weekday to go through all the fussy nitty gritty of making a good cup (esp in view that we aint prof trained barista that everything, literally eveyrthing could go wrong while pulling a cup(of coffee) ourselves), which end up, we might run the risk of loathing the few k machine for not having good result (but in real fact, it was prob due to us not realizing mistakes somewhere along the way?!) )
having said that, i think the "hot water tap" u are refering to, is that really the function of dispensing hot water, or was it the wand on the right hand side? if it is the wand, then that is actually the frothing wand that help u to froth ur milk ( to have those "bubbled milk"/ "air-ed milk", or milk foam). other than that, if u are refering to the function of dispensing hot water, i suppose when u are making coffee from the machine, u dont want the hassle of running over to the tap get water, boil water, and end up adding in some water which the temperature is no inline with what u have already extracted to ur cup....
