hard to say, what is the depth of your tank & what kind of coral you plan to keep?
18000k, i prefer not too high K rather than have more tube with various spectrum, i use 4 x 24w
now technology has improved a lot, not necessary to go until MH for normal reef setup.

as for cooling, long term better get a chiller, as you add more lighting your water will boil.
look for 2nd hand, many people upgrade their tank & will sell their chiller.

stable water parameter very important for reef tank, if can make a sump tank than will be good,
you can shift you skimmer to the sump tank, also you can have space to put proper carbon filter, po removal,
even a refugium.

for shallow tank, your lighting should be enough already,$
should consider more on keeping your water parameter stable
temp should be 26-27c all the time, nutrients level should be low
guessing phosphates should be quite high, with the over intense light, red slime can grow quite fast.
dump a sea urchin into it, in a few days, everything will be shining shining.

can look for 2nd hand from forum & lfs shop, bought my resun cl450 for 500bucks
however i still use fan while around, chiller dun kick off, not so noisy,
top up water occasionally also beneficial to the system.
while away is purely on chiller. temp set to 26c, stay 27c all the time.

got budget than can get a new hailea 130A, cost around 850, silent, price good & got 1 yr warranty.
previously i checked, only have white, i prefer dark to match my hse & this 2nd hand unit bump in the right time.
*might upgrade tank in future so get bigger chiller is ok. rclxm9.gif

30c, thats hot, better put a fan blow direct to the water surface for the time being, should bring it down to 28c.

hey what do damselfish n clownfish eat besides pallets?

im cycling my tank now with a 3 stripe damselfish and i'm afraid that the pellet remnants will contaminate the tank or should i just leave the uneaten food that sunk to the bottom?

brimeshrimp, mysis, cyclops ezee & basically meaty seafood.

not too much is ok, it will be decompose by bakteria, also you can get some bottom dweller to compliment your eco-system, eg: blenny fish, prawn, lobster, sand star which will help you to sapu those food laying on the sand bed.

skimmer will help reduce the biomass.

tempreture 28c below also reduce chance of amonia spike which is the last thing u want to try.

damsel are very territorial & bully, if decide to do a reef tank & keep more variety of fish.

should consider take them out.

now i have one 3 stripe damsel.

my tank is pretty small, 1.5ft height n 2ft length, 1600l clip on filter, and a protein skimmer.

later in a month planning to get a pair of percula and an anemone.

if i add a blenny fish is it too much for my tank? or could u recommend me any other bottom dweller.

and thanks a lot, your info is very helpful for a newbie like me.

can't see clearly, is that "overflow" hangon filter? need use proper marine type, not fresh water flower loh han type. lol
pair of percula & blenny sure no problem.
as for anemone, need very stable water tempreture, use a fan & try let it stay at 28c as much as possible.
anemone also have many type, choose the right type you can keep.
