man....this was asked so many times.....

google sell this as cost price. they plan make profit when consumer buy lots of stuff from their play store.

in country where play store not fully open, where got profit. so they never plan sell here.
asus bring in because they want profit. 249usd is cost price, so the additional increase is profit for asus.

be reasonable, at price less than 1k, you only can get rubbish china brand tablet.
this is nexus device, will get android update asap as it is released.
quad core tablet, 1280x800 resolution screen (big big noticeable improvement over 1024x600)

if you buy from garage sales, sellers there order from US at 245usd, add shipping cost, and their own profit, also sell around 1k. people want to ear money la

You can look at the manufacturing cost breakdown here:
http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/News/page...wn-Reveals.aspx

so remember, there are a lot of other costs not listed there, such as shipping, advertising, software development, etc. It is believed that Google only break even with the 8GB variant. 16GB variant however, Google can make some money since the memory cost $7.50 more but selling price is $50 more.

Interesting to note also, Asus is selling 16GB Nexus 7 in Taiwan (Asus home country) for approx NTD9000, which is about RM900++.

so do you mean Google and Asus earn nothing by selling 249 usd in US for the device itself?  rclxub.gif

at least thats what google is saying. same strategy as kindle fire
but i suspect the actual cost price may be lower then selling price, and google is exaggerating.

but to be fair, look at other tegra3 android tablet out there.
they are much more expensive ASUS's transformer series are close to 2k.

i think acer has a tegra3 10 inch tablet that is very cheap, quite a good buy.
but doubt it will ever taste jellybean.
even if it do, nexus7 already on the next android version.

Even at rm999 I consider good value
I have used several android tablets n must say it is value for money
If you think is expensive go try other android tablets n see their pricing
Just don't buy if you think is expensive

ya acer tablet quite cheap too, example iconia tab a510
even it sell RM 999 also consider very cheap, can compare with other tablet in the market now (android tablet)
all tegra 3 tablet at least 1.3k (iconia tab a510 so far I know it is the cheapest tegra 3 tablet)
to those who feel is expensive, can wait for iconia tab a110
*don't compare with iPad, is different story

Added on September 20, 2012, 6:11 pmhm...i wonder, nexus 7 selling here is really specially made for our market, or direct buy from US and bring here by asus.

interested to see how the charger looks like. if exactly the same as US one then really sweat. hahaha...

Bloody hell, man... for the "price complainers"... please share with us which RM1k and below Android tablet out here in Malaysia has a quad-core 4+1 CPU, a 12‐core GeForce GPU, a 1280x800 resolution HD IPS display, Corning glass, running Jellybean, first to get updates, 8 hours of HD video playback, 10 hours of web browsing, and 10 hours of e-reading, about a total of 9.5 hours battery life, 10.5 mm thin and 340gm in weight, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth v.3, WiFi b/g/n, NFC, 2 mics, 2 speakers, GPS, and a very portable 7" screen?

Show me one tablet that beats ALL that at RM1k or less currently available in Malaysia now, and I'll buy one for myself and another one for the first guy/gal who shares. Oh, you want US prices? Move there. A lot of other things also cheaper there what.

If none of the complainers here can share anything as above, then stop b****ing, think about how unrealistic your complaint is and forever hold your peace. icon_rolleyes.gif

well, people waiting for local set, will expect something that is made specially for malaysia.
if the charger is US set, means what asus is doing is no different from garage sales sellers.
something like official big scale grey import from US. haha.
