I didn't need it when I renewed my REP online. It's was actually just answering some Y/N questions online and then clicking 'renew' on an ICA website using your Singpass. A a day or two later, I logged in, checked the status and it's renewed with another 5 years. Kowtim. You can also print out the new REP if you want. Nothing submitted at all.

Depends on the person n his need to hv the license. just need to pay $6 for btt  for converting, and it is valid for 5yrs in sg & msia. After that can convert back to msia , if u did not take PR.

Jobs are easy to get, as blue collar workers laugh.gif

It is not so much a story of worth it or not worth it. If you check back a page or two for the link that mackiddo gave, actually by law you are not allowed to drive in SG on a foreign license after 1 year.

Thanks all, my friends actually asked me to convert my msia license to SG license and get a motorcycle in sg... well I think I'm happy with transportation system here and since I'm not planning to apply PR and license will only valid for 5 years, don't think will be converting license for now.

Hi Everyone,

I will graduate with Bachelor degree in graphic design March 2013, and plan to work in Singapore. I had around 3 years experience in both web, graphic, user-interface design job with client from Canada, etc. (by Freelance with good portfolio)

May I know:

1. Is it easy for company to hire foreign like us? Since it always stated Singaporean or PR preferred.

2. For those who came to Singapore and apply job through newspaper, where should we live? hotel or hostel (with deposit) ?

3. How much is the basic salary that probably I can get? Do they willing to pay high for foreigner?

4. For the employment pass, how long will it takes for apply and how long minimum before it expired, 1 year or 2 year? (Do I have to pay with my salary?)

5. I heard the tax is 20% for foreigner, but I also heard about tax refund, may I know what is that?

Please all senior in Singapore give me some guidance, and I am sorry if newbie like me ask so many questions.

God Bless You all smile.gif

Thanks So Much,

Kiero

Hi Kiero, hope you find my reply useful.

1) I would say its quite easy for Msians. Some company might have quota issues as in not enough quota to hire foreigners. But no worries if you're getting an EP since there is no quota for EP.

2) If you have relatives or friends currently in SG it would be much more easier maybe you can ask them to provide lodging? If not, there are some cheap hostels around which rent for $20~$30 daily, but be prepared to live with all sorts of people.

3) Not in the industry so can't advice but please bear in mind that competition is stiff nowadays (PRCs, Indians and even Europeans are flocking to Singapore). Your pay may be lower than locals.

4) Usually 2 years (I've a friend given 1 year validity though, he need to renew it every year).

When did you guys renew your REP? I mean... how long before the expiry we are eligible to submit application? IRAS website (http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=152#procedure) only states "before the expiry date", which is kind of vague. Mine expiring in June of next year, thinking to renew earlier; once approved will quit my job and take a break tongue.gif

If your potential salary is 3300, why your company will apply S-pass for you? I though EP holder min requirement is 3k salary.

I've read through the IRAS web but still have some confusion.

To determine whether you are tax resident or not in this year 2012 depending on the number of days stay/work in SG from the prior year. Am I correct?

For example,
I started my job in SG on Aug 2012, so for Year of assessment 2012 I am a non tax resident because in year 2011 I did not stay/work in sg more than 183 days. Am I correct?

Pls correct me if im wrong. Thanks for sharing.

i have also look into the same link before posting here. But the the first page of this thread state that ones can stay in sg for job hunting for 60 days out of every 90 days. So i wonder if this apply to EP cancellation employee as well.
