Thanks for the reply. I am looking for something not more than rm500..

I was looking at VS4621 altec lansing. Idealtech suggested edifier R1800Tiii if i m not mistaken. I wonder which of it is good. Currently using Sonic gear evo 7.

That Edifier R1800TIII is a studio monitor which means HiFi quality, since you've mentioned primarily for music. For below RM500, my main recommendation would actually be a higher model, which is Edifier Studio 6 (a.k.a Edifier R2600). And if you could go a little bit above RM500 then highly recommended to go for Edifier Studio 7 (a.k.a Edifier R2700). These models are frequently sold out, thus do check the shops (Viewnet, Sri Ciomputer, Compuzone, All IT Hypermart, et) and see if there are new stock... nod.gif

does that mean R1800Tiii is not as good as R2600 and R2700?

Yes, it does mean that R1800TIII is not as good as either R2600 and R2700. Also the higher end models besides higher wattage have much larger woofers (6.5-inch versus only 4-inch on the R1800TIII), which means had good bass performance as well... icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, that Edifier Studio 6 (a.k.a Edifier R2600) could have been a little cheaper though as its almost RM500. And little bit more is within touching distance of Edifier Studio 7 (a.k.a Edifier R2700) already... wink.gif

Meaning it worth getting R2700 from this dealer?

And VS4621 is not good?

Looking at the small price difference (of roughly RM50) from their prices then may as well get the higher model, which is the R2700... brows.gif

Different class already, as studio monitors such as Edifier Studio series are HiFi quality. Also Altec Lansing nowadays not as good as ye olde Altec Lansing of yesteryears (same goes with Logitech and Creative Labs as well)... tongue.gif

So basically I was just wondering.. is the Edifier R501 Mk2 classified as a lower end 5.1 speaker? For movies should it be better if let's say I compare them to the Edifier C3 which are 2.1 speakers but on the higher end side..
If I bump my budget up to RM500 would I be able to get much better 5.1 speakers? As in the compared to RM400+ R501 Mk2.

Depends on whether you want to use 5.1 surround sound. I would not say low end, but rather (low budget) highly affordable quality speakers. The previous R501 versions have one way satellites (fullrange driver), and there's a version of R501 that has two way satellites (midrange driver and tweeter): Edifier: Акустические системы Edifier в Украине and TechLand - Audio Hard - Edifier R501 Multimedia Speakers 5.1. And the one with the two way satellites is the one to get, as its rare to see two way satellites (with wood enclosures) for 5.1 speakers in this price range. Even that Logitech Z506 is just one way satellites only (with plastic enclosures). On the Logitech Z506 satellites. the odd looking round thingy (that looks like a tweeter) above the main fullrange driver is not a tweeter at all but just plastic decoration only... wink.gif

Nothing around RM500 and below (except the Edifier R501), but at almost RM600 there's Logitech Z623. Even this one does not feature two way satellites, as it uses a single full range driver with phase plug ("poor man's tweeter"). As always, try auditioning/testing these speakers first before deciding... hmm.gif

To anyone who has budget around RM300 don't forget Logitech Z506 as well. This little beast is packed with 3D Stereo and 360 degree 5.1 Surround Sound. Solid build and design, powerful bass with tweeter. Bass is super clean, deep and smooth with crisp clear treble. I bought 5 months ago and so hard to believe only RM330 at PC DEPOT. I use it to listen to music and watching movies. I don't do gaming but reviews online is very positive about it. The sound will fill your entire room. So don't hesitate.

Didn't you checked my earlier posts about that Logitech Z506 (including my own impression/assessment and a scathing online review)? Also, the Logitech Z506 does not have any tweeters at all... doh.gif

bro, there are still lots of blind people that could type. laugh.gif
btw, still quite like my m3300SF. the sats are so light that now i hang them on the wall using double sided tapes. LOL...no drilling required.
super clear and bass is not so bad either. the remote volume is very handy, but i wish the mute blue LED would be on the volume knob instead, to show which position it was. haha... flex.gif

Since I've heard many speaker systems, thus its easy to spot something was amiss with that Logitech Z506. Sure enough I was not alone in this respect, and those who were more adept at hearing can immediately notice it. I'm sure that once you've accustomed to hearing the clear sounds of the Edifier M3300SF, you can then easily spot other bad and/or noisy sounding speakers also. As for the wired controller on the Edifier M3300SF, you can also make your own custom DIY controller to replace the original one... wink.gif

Dedicated active subwoofer, or active 2.1 or 5.1 speaker system with subwoofer? unsure.gif

whats the good of custom made one? haha...any sample? this set is not so bassy, more towards clarity. but all good. something refreshing rather than trying to cover muddy sound with bass. haha...that's why after tested this unit, the rest of the speakers like not so clear edi. ears spoilt. LOL

Strictly for DIY'ers who understands quite a bit of electronics with the tools and resources. The wired controller internally have a very simple configurations like this...

Audio Input ----> Mute switch ----> Volume potentiometer -----> Control cable (with 9-pin Dsub connector)

And the power for the blue LED is on another wire inside that control cable. That "headphone output" at the back of the wired controller is really a pass-thru connection (in other words, headphone output performance comes directly from the audio input source which is usually the audio output of your machine). The secondary input is a 3.5mm socket with switch-over and pass-thru contacts (disconnects the primary audio input when a stereo plug is inserted)... icon_rolleyes.gif
