Now Unity Kitchen got discount until 31st october. The price for granite and quartz is the same, i.e. RM 190 pfr, normal price 250.

Just got my quotation yesterday.
Dont know whether limited finish(design) or just the plain one.

I am going there to get better info.
Was told by the staff at Signature Kitchen that Granite/Quartz will absorb some moisture and transmit it to the base cabinet. This will make the base cabinet a bit smelly.. Anyone can vouch to this??

Anyone got any recommendation for nice finish?

Hi..
Is it true that since granite is natural stone, it is porous so water can actualy seeps into it?

And also being natural stone, theres a chance part of the stone is actually "empty" inside so when try to cut it, it may break..

Hence better to get quartz over granite?

If my cabinet is beige for the doors and black for the frame, should i go for black or light colour top?

There are several grading for natural stone however it is true that being natural stone, there are higher chances of water seepage to occur and different part of the stone may have different degree of porosity. It is not recommended to do heavy cutting over counter top using natural stone so yea quartz is better over granite or any other natural stone in term of durability and practicality.

All these quartz, granite, marble are porous stone right?

There is a layer of sealant on top. It is honestly quite carefree and i've had it for 3 years. Just buy a good kitchen cloth (i use 3M) and a good wipedown is all it needs. My brother cooks indomee occasionally and i've wiped off his mess from the dark soy sauce and oil only a few days later when i noticed it. No permanent stains as it is all on top of the sealant. You can go to the showroom and touch the surface.

Hi.

I have a granite top. Is there any way to DIY seal the surface. I had it for a while now, but seldom used - empty unit, and can't remember if it was originally sealed. In any case, don't want to take any risk. Will a granite top supplier do home visit just to seal the surface?

Hi,
Share with you my research on the price per foot run (i.e. 1ft x 2ft) for Granite & Quartz in Melaka:
1. Emerald Pearl or Blue Pearl Granite (both from Norway): RM160
2. Black Galaxy Granite: RM140
3. Russian Diamond Granite: RM330 (only 1 shop has this granite stock; other shops used to sell at ~RM170 ... stocks are rare)

4. Silver Black Quartz: RM140

If you go for premium Feruni tiles 600mm x 600mm (for example Aludra Black AL81NN which is quite close resembling the Black Galaxy Granite) as countertop, you only pay ~10% of the Granite or Quartz countertop cost !

Seems like a good rate.

Does the granite quote include any fascia and backsplash?

Also how much do they charge for opening hole (for the sink)?

Are the rates really good?
I expect it could be cheaper in other location for e.g. in KL or Selangor.

I did not ask for full quote yet.
The suppliers mentioned that there is some extra charge for the side trimming of the granites on those fancy curves. Simpler one could be foc.

For the sink and faucet opening holes charge, it is inclusive in the price per foot run.

Here in Perak I got quoted RM160 per foot run for Black Galaxy. This is for the 24" main surface + 3.5" fascia + 3" backsplash. Sink opening hole is included.

The fascia and backplash size (if you want it) will make a difference in price, plus also the edge finishing as you mentioned.

I bought my granite countertops from Hock Heng Granite Sdn Bhd after comparing on few outlets in Melaka.
They are going to install at my dry & wet kitchens this coming Tuesday & Wednesday.

Ask them for quotes and compare ... call SK 0162280189.

Do guys have the concrete top ready prior to installing your granite/quartz top with your kitchen cabinets or is it done directly to the cabinet?

In Melaka,
1. Pegasus in Cheng
2. Galaxy Stone in Bachang
3. Hock Heng in Sg Putat

I would recommend you to go to their production area and look & touch at the actual granite, quartz or marble slabs during your window shopping as well as appreciate at their actual work quality (cutting & polishing).
For e.g. Russian Diamond granite from one shop to another could be at different price due to different stone quality (blue gem stone patches).
