Now Unity Kitchen got discount until 31st october. The price for granite and quartz is the same, i.e. RM 190 pfr, normal price 250.

Just got my quotation yesterday.
Dont know whether limited finish(design) or just the plain one.

I am going there to get better info.
Was told by the staff at Signature Kitchen that Granite/Quartz will absorb some moisture and transmit it to the base cabinet. This will make the base cabinet a bit smelly.. Anyone can vouch to this??

Anyone got any recommendation for nice finish?

i think the ability of withstand heat is better for granite. make sure you don't use white quartz.

quartz also many different grade, i suppose the expensive one can match granite.

Hi guys,

I still cant decide to go for granite or Quartz lah.... According to sales person, Quartz is better coz water absorption is low, compression strength, toughness strength, anti wear, anti acid & alkali , no radiation and no maintenance.

Having say that, I just don't understand, why natural granite cost the same as quartz (man make)? i m just afraid if I make the wrong decision and later regret. Hmmmm.....

Granite stains easily. I think mine not sealed. Next time I will go for quartz but I don't like the price.
Color choice is limited to dark colors for granite so if you are out of luck if you want something white

This debate will be continue forever and ever, and we did discuss at Kitchen cabinet thread before.
Just choose what u think is best, rather to debate which 1 is the best.
btw, i am using granite top for my kitchen.

If your granite is not sealed then no wonder it stains easily. How come your supplier didn't seal it for you? I thought it is standard procedure.

My granite tops are sealed and I have little problem with staining.

Who said granite is only limited to dark colours? You can get other colours, but yes there is no pure white for granite but there is a nice white & gray granite (can't remember the name now).

i never know granite has to be sealed. does it mean the installer has to apply a coat of sealer after installation?

It does depend on the type of granite. Some are non-porous. Have a read here:

http://www.marble.com/articles/to-seal-or-not-to-seal/
http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-improve...ountertops3.htm

Ask the supplier if Emerald Pearl needs sealing or not.

That's what I wondering too.

In all my thought, granite should be more expensive than medium quality solid surface hardtop and quartz is a little bit higher than granite. I have other KC co provide me such quotation.

But for Unity, the solid surface is not a cheap price and hence just top up a little bit to get Granite and Quartz, thats confuse me too because in my mind, granite should be more solid and heat resistant and quartz is more good looking with lil shiny top....

I planning to get only solid surface for my dry kitchen because it may a lot cheaper compare to granite and quartz, but surprise that it just top up RM 350 to get granite or quartz. Ya, the SA also pushing for the Quartz.

Any bro can share idea which is better for dry kitchen with oven? Solid surface is 8k and if with granite or quartz, just add on RM 350 to get it ....

If budget isn't an issue for one, should opt for the premium one, as setting up this quite hard and normally the setup will last long smile.gif
I do personally prefer solid surface but granite/quartz is more premium in looking

Even for solid surface there are different brands and quality. Maybe the solid surface they are selling is the more expensive type, so the price diff vs granite is quite small.

Of course even for granite there are different prices (depending on which type/color you get). So to do better comparison ask for full details of their solid surface and their granite. Then do some research on the net.

Why do you prefer solid surface?

I know one benefit of solid surface is that they can polish out the joins, so that if you have a large countertop (made with several pieces) it can look seamless.

sometimes it depends on what color you intend your counter top to be. if you are looking for a particular color or effect, not all materials will have what you want.
I'm using Corian white color solid surface for 5 years now. So far okay. It is also much cheaper at around Rm180 pfr (for plain white color) compare to Quartz about 3 times the cost.
My sink is also Corian....so its all one seamless piece of top and sink

I like to try Quartz or Marble the next time.....but the cost.....arrgrggghhh...
