QUOTE(gerald7 @ Aug 31 2012, 01:51 AM)
I have been using the 1755 for 6 years. on my d80 to the d300. Thats my go to lens at all events. for 17-55 range, nothing special really. its like your kit lens, but the color and sharpness is diff, and when the lights are low, this lens really shines. sure there are no creamy bokeh... for me thats fine, as Im jst recording the event which usually means many people and many things happening at once. I dont jst isolate the prettiest gal in the function and stalk her all nite. I probably wont get paid if I tried that. Another thing impressed me about this lens is how reliable it is. Focusing is still highly accurate and fast, zoom still fluid. Only complain i have is the zoom and focus rubber ... change twice already!  I think need to go in for third change.

Thats my one and only DX glass. the rest are FX (ready), so if one day I do jump to FX, I think it will not be as bad as changing all the glass.
For me I would not take 2470 on a crop body. Reason? you lose out on the wide end. If you dont see yourself going FX in the next 2-3 years. Grab the 1755. Even next time you want to sell it, its still hold a decent value. At the end of the day, its your money you can buy what ever you want. Dont mind how people think, student with expensive lens. So what?  flex.gif

tats my old man grumpy two cents no offense intended to anyone who feels offended.

oh ya?
can give few example of lousy optical quality? brows.gif

as i do interior and architecture photography, i don't like the 16-35 f4 lens because of the barrel distortion. but i don't call it a lousy lens.

As long as the lens doesn't produce good colour/bokeh/sharpness wide open then it's a lousy lens for me.. 16-35 got terrible distortion at the widest, but it's very sharp as well (myself using 1 doh.gif ), not suitable for architecture (this is where the 14-24 comes into brows.gif )..

To be honest with you I don't think sigma is worth the trouble, my earlier copy ( not the current 1 with smooth surface ).. missfocus/backfocus/front focus all the time, then i sold it laugh.gif .. Just get the nikkor 50 1.8g ( i found it to be very good for the price, at least the focus is accurate )

Hard to blame them, try to put yourself in their shoe or try take up their job and experience it.

They need to deliver the results to their boss/company/client. There're soooo many photojournalist there, can they wait for one another? By the time your turn, you think the moment/shot will wait for you?
This is not model shoot, etc.
Plus this is a very BIG event.

Even for small events, like car launch, etc. There can be many many photojournalist, if you're shooting for yourself, then you wouldn't feel any pressure or MUST go and take the shot when it's crowded. BUT, imagine if you're company for a magazine/newspaper and they send you there. Are you gonna stand there and ask for other photojournalist to give you your turn? Let's say the car came out and the VIPS went up, you have only the few moments to get that shot, and it's full of photojournalist... Not only that... there're guest also squeezing there trying to take shot using their handphone/iPad, whatever. So, just imagine if you're a photojournalist send by a company/magazine, how pressure/stress and frustrated when many people are blocking you.

It also depends what moment, if during say, photo session with VIPS, etc. during the event where you're given ample time, the photojournalist will be friendly/polite and let others take their turn.

I'm not any photojournalist, but if one try to understand and imagine/look from their viewpoint/perception, you can roughly understand them.

You can also think about Wedding, during the bride and groom marching in, nobody is stopping and waiting for you. If you're the hired photographer, and there's guest holding their DSLR, Phone Camera, iPads, etc. standing in front of you blocking you while the couple is marching in. Will you take your time to ask the guest to give you way, etc?

ya, lens firmware...since AF is not body driven...so the lens of cos needs to communicate with the body...then sometimes end up miscommunicate tongue.gif

Used the nifty fitfy few times during photoshooting, it's seriously very good for the price, I cannot see why the 1.4g is costing twice as much but not significantly better laugh.gif

@ifer,
speaking of interior and architecture, is distortion really that bad that must be killed on sight? Im curious, my friend want to go into architecture photography I have not much experience or interest on that. I always assumed its how ' correct ' the clients want the building to be? My friends thinking of getting the tilt shift lens. My thinking is if can get jobs once a month, why not .... but if once ayear....? Whats a relatively decent starting lens for architecture photography ?
