QUOTE(0163119779 @ Aug 30 2012, 07:39 PM) Dx...Well I'm actually got enough money for the 17-55(I had funding "bullent" in 2 years) but the problems is I still a student and how ppl look at a student that using big and professional lens?? I have been using the 1755 for 6 years. on my d80 to the d300. Thats my go to lens at all events. for 17-55 range, nothing special really. its like your kit lens, but the color and sharpness is diff, and when the lights are low, this lens really shines. sure there are no creamy bokeh... for me thats fine, as Im jst recording the event which usually means many people and many things happening at once. I dont jst isolate the prettiest gal in the function and stalk her all nite. I probably wont get paid if I tried that. Another thing impressed me about this lens is how reliable it is. Focusing is still highly accurate and fast, zoom still fluid. Only complain i have is the zoom and focus rubber ... change twice already! I think need to go in for third change. Thats my one and only DX glass. the rest are FX (ready), so if one day I do jump to FX, I think it will not be as bad as changing all the glass. For me I would not take 2470 on a crop body. Reason? you lose out on the wide end. If you dont see yourself going FX in the next 2-3 years. Grab the 1755. Even next time you want to sell it, its still hold a decent value. At the end of the day, its your money you can buy what ever you want. Dont mind how people think, student with expensive lens. So what? tats my old man grumpy two cents no offense intended to anyone who feels offended. QUOTE(ifer @ Aug 31 2012, 12:19 PM) oh ya? @ifer,can give few example of lousy optical quality? as i do interior and architecture photography, i don't like the 16-35 f4 lens because of the barrel distortion. but i don't call it a lousy lens. speaking of interior and architecture, is distortion really that bad that must be killed on sight? Im curious, my friend want to go into architecture photography I have not much experience or interest on that. I always assumed its how ' correct ' the clients want the building to be? My friends thinking of getting the tilt shift lens. My thinking is if can get jobs once a month, why not .... but if once ayear....? Whats a relatively decent starting lens for architecture photography ? |

QUOTE(ifer @ Aug 31 2012, 03:27 PM) you can correct the barrel distortion using photoshop. but you have to remember that you will probably need to do each and every photograph. as for the 16-35mm lens, zoom it at 16mm and the distortion is so bad that it looks almost fish eye. once you have corrected the distortion, your 16mm angle becomes more like 18mm and above. then what's the point of getting this lens? i rather use the rm 300 18-55mm lens @ifertilt shift lens is fantastic. but it's expensive too. i assume your friend is using nikon. nikkor has only 24mm PCE lens as the widest. this lens is a fantastic lens. however, canon has a 17mm TSE lens. sometimes due to the space, you just need a wider angle tilt shift lens. so, if your friend is serious in doing architecture/interior photography for a living, change system to canon. by the way 17mm TSE is about rm 8800 and 24mm TSE is 6500. but then again, i have heard that samyang are coming out with a 24mm tilt shift lens soon. nikkor 14-24 is nice but it has a little bit of distortion too. and of course you couldn't shift the lens when you needed it to. correcting barrel distortion on buildings in post, how 'accurate' is that? as compared to a lens with minimal barrel distort. haha my friend using canon 1Ds.. im not sure how serious he is, but he has has been talking about it for years. So if i wanted to do a some architecture photography my 1755 would be sufficient for a start ? on a side note, today I was given an extra flash from 1988.. lol ... SB-24 amazing, it still works! But no optical trigger, drats! |

QUOTE(ifer @ Sep 2 2012, 12:09 PM) correcting them in post can get pretty accurate. it all depends on the the photographer's eye. ah... 17mm TSE huh.. ok ok thanks for the comments, much appreciated! if you friend was using the 1Ds, then it's a plus point as he get to use the 17mm TSE... probably one of the best L lens. the 24mm TSE is fantastic too. just remember to get a super sturdy tripod (Gitzo series 3 at least) and a hot shoe spirit level and your friend can start to make some moneyyyy Pic Spam .. from my fav car park.. ![]() 120825-Mini-003 by Cybreed, on Flickr |

![]() Its a fact that portraiture drives a lot of interest. And probably a lot of sales for camera companies. Last round 2 rounds of nikon club in my area, no amoi shooting, a lot less ppl show up, even those that did, disappear after 10 mins. Well I stayed till very end for both. |
