If its video rendering and pic editing, best to get maybe an i7
If not an i5 will do.. As for mobo since you're not getting a K series processor (overclockable) , a H77 board will do.. Gigabyte H77-D3h or Asrock H77 around RM299  smile.gif
As for RAM try dumping in as much as possible.. 4GB 1333mhz x 4 =16GB ddr3 RM275+-
As for PSU , fsp hexa 500w 80+ RM150 or maybe Corsair GS 500w RM195 or Enermax 550w 82+ RM215
*
Was looking into the recommended mobo, and found out H77 boards (GA-Z77-D3H) from Gigabyte has this feature "Lucid Universal MVP Support" where else I don't see that function on the recommended GA-H77-D3H (or do you mean the GA-H77M-D3H instead?). Question now is does that feature actually work and worth paying the extra bucks for it? Most importantly works with any GPU or only the recent ones as I will be reusing my 4870.

That's the old one, I think.....
The one I heard is virtual mvp....
This actually use both the intel hd4000 with ur gpu
They use the onboard intel hd4000 for video encoding
While the dedicated gpu for games and extreme rendering smile.gif

So I was thinking if I got the more expensive board with that virtual mvp, then it would be a 'free' upgrade to my aging 4870? That is provided this actually works?

Hi guys, would like to get a recommendation for a download rig as my laptop just died. Rig will be running 24/7 and will be connected a lcd and to my lcd tv for movie playback, i.e. dual monitor. Any suggestions?

[Budget] - below RM1k
[Purpose] - download, movie playback through lcd tv, HD movies included.
[Hardware that will be reused from old rig] - Nil
[Monitor Resolution] - No need full HD
[Game or software used frequently] - Utorrent, Firefox, VLC

Will a desktop be better? Or should I buy another laptop?

Q1) Can anyone suggest a full setup for gaming for ~RM3000. Includes monitor and keyboard/mouse (Logitech Combo G100?) but may exclude speakers for now. Hopefully I can get a future proof (~5 years) desktop.
Also, I don't need it now, maybe end of next month. Is there any new tech that I should wait out for ?

Q2) I have never built a computer before. Is it possible that I have the computer assembled by the staff at the shop I buy at ? I know most sifus here suggest buying especially GCs from the forum, can I bring that to the shop and have the shop people assemble the computer for me ?
How hard and time consuming is it for me to do it myself ?

Thanks man
