I wont blame the ref.... we were shit beyond words... if it wasnt for reina it would have been 4-0,5-0 or maybe even 6-0....

Stevie G was shit, Borini and Allen made minimal, if any impact... johnson was crap... Suarez didnt get any help... shit.

Lucas was clearly not in 100% fit condition... Gerrard was really poor... all the stray passes.... god....

My expectation for the season is just an improvement in performance and in league standing - top 6 please.

And hopefully we can sneak in a cup or two (i wish)

Deeply frustrated and depressed with the first game.... the team didnt gel well.... but on to the next game (as Rafa always said)

4-3-3 going forward with Gerrard supporting the front 3, with Lucas and Allen protecting the back four. Also, it means we defend high up the pitch using our fowards. Formations should not be taken at face value anyhow. A 4-3-3 attacking formation can easily morph into a 4-5-1 when being pegged back.  I just think that sitting back and inviting City forward is fatal.

I agree.

Obviously City are favourites against us. So rather than sitting back and inviting city to attack (which they can, and will), Its a better idea to go for it (cautiously of course) with the 4-3-3 (diamond-ish) formation and as Duke said... revert to 4-5-1 when City are attacking.

I saw a proposed formation earlier which listed 5 actual midfielders in Henderson, Shelvey, Gerrard, Allen and Lucas. The problem with this is not only are they all better players in the centre of the park, we also do not have to pace to counterattack. Having forwards like Borini and Suarez track back to midfield at least means we'll have the pace to hit them on the counter, beating the offside trap. There is little point in chocking the midfield when we have no outlets when gaining possession of the ball. Suarez and Borini or both adept at making runs in behind defences.
*
No point having those names in midfield all at once if we plan on countering... those names are on the field if we are parking the bus.

I'd like to see Suarez-Carroll-Borini start. If both of them can supply Carroll with good balls, I'm sure we can start scoring. I dont think we're particularly bad at the back, but we all know how woeful we are up front.

I am puzzled and do not understand why people and commentator keep on talking about Swansea.  rclxub.gif

Swansea ended the season last year at 11th place with 47 points,  while Liv finished at 7th.
So if history repeat, mean Liv finishing at 11th, all smiling comes the end of season?  rclxub.gif

Swansea were newly promoted then. 11th place is quite an achievement.

Allen and Sterling are CLASS!

Borini... I really want to kill him or sell him ASAP.. rubbish player... IMO of course.

Take out Borini, bring in Shelvey, put Gerrard as a shadow striker behind Sterling and Suarez, play a 4-3-1-2 and we can win...

Any football-loving person would NEVER EVER call FOOTBALL, soccer. #fact.

Anywho, on a side note:

Allen and Sterling were Class! Shelvey was pretty good too. Suarez was wasteful. Gerrard is really lacking alot these days (understandably due to his age).
Defence didnt look like playing. Sahin was not here nor there, decent I supposed. Otherwise the team was crap. Take out Allen, Shelvey and Sterling and we would have been trashed.

My 4 cents, of course.

A choice of words. a person that uses the word soccer doesn't mean that he's any less football loving than the rest. Pls provide details and explanation to #fact. Thanks.

It's like calling God (any respective God) 'God', and 'Spiritual Being'.

You dont see people in churches going, 'Bless us owh Spiritual Being'.

Calling Football, soccer, is like calling American Football, 'hand-egg'.

It does show (tho not determinative) a level of respect and passion.

but we really don't want to go into a debate over linguistics now do we?

Let's not equate with American football, they may not have a different name for the game, i could be wrong and to call it 'hand egg' would be disrespectful and I wouldn't even think of doing so out of respecft for the game. As what I've said earlier it's really a choice of word, it we don't like the word football or soccer, we can also describe the game as ... "a game comprising of 2-teams with 11 players on each side with 2-goal post and a ball and .......... that'll be mouthful.

I wouldn't even wanna start to debate on the term, as far as I understnd  it means the same until one Mr. Know Everything about soccer,  oops football ..... comes round with all the football knwoledge with a one line comment. Have a nice day. smile.gif

Well, to some (especially Englishmen), to call it 'soccer' is disrespectful. Perspective.
