We too missed out on dani alves back then when sevilla wanted 12M and the most we could fork out is 10M. Right?

if we wanna do big things, we cannot mind the smaller stuff.
anyway news said that its ian ayre who was responsible, owners are furious. i bet they know the implication, but they should have dealt with it with more authority. guess they put faith in the wrong hands again This post has been edited by Petre: Sep 2 2012, 12:36 PM |

Happy Birthday Bill Shankly - Gone But Never Forgotten.
If there was one man would could stare down the owners and put them in their places, it would have had to be the Shanks. |

Just need Suarez to hit the kind of form he had against Norwich. Totally unplayable. Look at 2:58, so out of control and had to be man handled lol.

QUOTE(Petre @ Sep 2 2012, 12:02 PM) i thought players are more expensive in january transfer window? The press quoted 1 million more. In truth we never know what's going on behind. They may want appearance fee etc etc. I know we are desperate but I refuse to get bullied. Liverpool should not be seen as a club that can be easily ripped off. Our handling of caroll's transfer was the start of inflating prices being thrown at us. It has to stop.anyway imo, why should we NOT spend a little bit extra if it helps our cause? i dont think there is any benefit in us doing that. in saving our face, we effectively lose out on a player that could be our problem solver. if its me, even though i dont like it, i'll pay for dempsey. extra 1-2m? its not extra 10-20m for God's sake. what goes around comes around. we dont need to be sooooo calculative with such small clubs. they want the 1m extra? let them have it. in the end they might get relegated who knows. now thats payback |

QUOTE(dragontongue88 @ Sep 2 2012, 12:12 PM) Yep, we might get a better player in January, who knows maybe walcott still won't sign a new deal. I wasn't too fuss with Dempsey, good player but not really special... Refusing to let other clubs bully us of course is a good stance, however, I do think that left us pretty short up front. I feel like something actually went wrong in the last few days of the transfer window, I doubt Rodgers would have let Andy Carroll go if he knew we wouldn't get another player in. I just think that under those circumstances, an extra 1 or 2 million isn't too much to fork out for a short term signing. Bellamy was pretty old when we sign him, but he was one of our best players last season imo. The only good thing that come off this I think is that we might be seeing more of the youngsters like Morgan and Yesil. Who knows, Yesil might turn out good. Morgan looks a bit nervous though in his first start against Hearts. Anyway, let's hope for the best. Yeah the decision to let Caroll go on loan without having a replacement is scandalous. I agree this is mishandling. Refusing to get bullied is correct but letting go of backup resources while being short handed is unacceptable.Agree with this. Ian Ayre should be focusing only on marketing imo. Get somebody in who is a good negotiator, but let Rodgers have the final say on which players he wants. At the moment, there is nothing to do but to soldier on. Let's just wait and see. I'm not into baseball, but I've read somewhere that FSG did have some sort of a high wage clear out at Red Sox as well. It is like a change in policy for FSG. Red Sox is losing a lot lately though. |

The thing is we made only one bid for Dempsey and gave up after it was rejected. Doesn't sound like a player we were hellbent on getting. Perhaps we never did want him and made an offer that we knew would get rejected.

Just look at how clubs like Arsenal wanted Sahin on loan with an option to buy and we didnt, the only reason why he's with us now. |

Tottenham has done better than us and yet they don't suffer like us in the market. |

fulham didnt take us seriously. they just teased us with 1m extra and we were put off. they sold dempsey anyway in the end.
bloody Liverpool cant even spend 1m extra? losing out to Spurs some more, our direct competitor. it makes no sense saving that 1m. just admit it - we fuc*ed up big time on dempsey. if news about the owners furious is true, then it makes even bigger embarassment. in then end, we neither did save face, not did we solve out own problem. it was a situation where we needed to just swallow the pride and just show the money. now fingers crossed none of borini and suarez are injured till january. what is the best part - neither are prolific. and no disrespect to anybody - wa cant even tiki taka properly, dont expect us to play like spain where they dont need any strikers and goals can come from midfield, although i understand, that is exactly what we are left with now This post has been edited by Petre: Sep 2 2012, 01:25 PM |

perhaps ian ayre is made a scapegoat for the incident by the owners after all the reactions? Nobody knows the truth and we are in no position to blame anyone at all.Unless Ian Ayre admit himself. The boss are most capable of pushing any blames on the employee when things doesn't go right.

Secondly, if we weren't seriously looking for strikers, then why did we send Carroll out on loan? Bear in mind that other than Dempsey and Sturridge, we weren't link with anybody on the last day. So if they aren't our primary targets, who was supposed to take Carroll's place? My point is, somebody behind the doors clearly f***ed this up badly and once again we're at risk of facing another PR turmoil. |

I suspect that if we don't do well in the next few matches, Ian Ayre's head gonna roll and protest against FSG will begin.
Then, another period of turmoil. Sickening. Stability has been lacking in this club. |

QUOTE(led_zep_freak @ Sep 2 2012, 01:42 PM) Didn't we try to sign him some weeks ago? FSG got ahead of themselves and announced the signing before it happen, didn't they? Did we ? Jol said we never made a bid prior to the one we made that got rejected. I think it was Sturridge who we really wanted. But that deal depended on Chelsea signing Schurrle from Leverkusen. So we waited and waited until it was clear Chelsea would not be signing the player, consequently ruling out the possibility of signing Sturridge. Only then we went for Dempsey. This is all speculation by the way, we can never be sure until the club make a statement which they won't.Secondly, if we weren't seriously looking for strikers, then why did we send Carroll out on loan?
