Guys, have applied for an IT related job in the Shell Career site, and Application Status has been showing 'Application Received' for close to 2 weeks now. For anybody that has experienced this before, what will follow on from here? Will it usually be a positive or negative one? Feedbacks appreciated. Thanks!

Helo guys,

Been offered to join Shell (Upstream wells dept.), fresh graduate here, I have read through the forum and have few questions to ask here:

1) since Shell abolished the relocation allowance and others benefits, but there is still many people wanted to join shell..why?? because of??? is there any other benefits to compensate in order to keep Shell as competitive company status in O&G industry??

2) Is the 25% increment in salary per annum still valid for graduate employee (Job Group 'G')? what is the latest info? mind to share? smile.gif

3) Will trainee engineer have a chance to go offshore during 1st year? If yes, means they will get paid RM3K thru the rooster rotation (14/14)??

Thanks and hope u guys can help me to clarify this... smile.gif appreciate it a lot!!

1. It is in the management view that the salary package for graduate package is still competitive among the Oil Majors in Msia, even without RA. If RA is so important to you, you can choose not to join Shell.

2. Increment is based on Individual Performance Factor, which is performance based. Hence, increment is not set at 25% for graduate.

3. If you are a Trainee Operation Engineer, yes. If you are not, you would have to ask for offshore exposure, usually wont last more than a week. That also if someone one the platform/vessel agrees to host you that long.

Hi Yunodie,

What about other allowances such as overtime pay, medical, car etc.

And what about the annual company bonus? Does this apply apart from individual increments?

Thanks!

1) even without the RA, the basic is still competitive. shell didnt abolished the RA, just cut 50% and applicable ONLY if you are from west going to
east or vice versa. to say many join shell is a misleading statement, epecially when you join to quit later on. Shell has been quite long in
Malaysia, so they are quite mature in terms of getting manpower. That is the reason why even with the drastic cut, they arent afraid they are
unable to get manpower. However, because Malaysia has lesser choices of Oil & gas companies compare to overseas, the choices is also very
limited.
resignation rate is something you cant see wink.gif but is very real.

2) I think the 25% increment is a misleading statement. increment still rely on your performance.

3) depends.

Anyone ever notices that they are mostly inviting East Malaysians for phone interview and Shell Recruitment Day for the technical positions?

My SRD was attended by ALL East Malaysian candidates who were studying at different public and private universities in Malaysia. The same thing happened to my friends' SRD - either all East Malaysians or 5 out of 6 were. No diversity or whatsoever. Maybe they are trying to save cost by hiring locals to work for their operations in East Malaysia. Or there is a quota imposed to hire locals? In some cases, more than half of the candidates came from the same race.

Also, they didn't pick the most outstanding and powerful two or three candidates. Instead, they went for the mediocre and somewhat socially awkward candidates who couldn't even express themselves well in English. So to those who are going to attend their SRD, play your card right.

I totally agree to what u said. Sometimes i even doubt that do really choose the right people based on their CART criteria, or just to fulfill their local corporate social responsibility, so they are more keen to hire the locals.

I have some frens who are top student in the uni with excellent co-curriculum and great presentation skill, yet they are not even shortlisted for the phone interview. However, in the same batch, there are some ppl who are East Malaysian had been shortlisted to SRD. (it is undeniable that some of them are really good, however from i see, some of them cant even speak proper english, i hav no idea how they are selected for SRD).

I believe I carried myself very well. And I actually followed the advices posted by you around this forum when I attended it. Among them were "be yourself" and "avoid being the attention seeker, asskisser etc".. but when I was surrounded by a group of passive and quiet candidates, it was made hard to tone down my outspokenness. Maybe I should have been as quiet as them. At last, candidates with poor spoken English were chosen instead. Having said that, I believe they must have had some good qualities Shell is looking for. Otherwise, the assessors wouldn't have overlooked their poor language.
