Gurus,

I'd just migrated from unifi to maxis home fibre. Since I still have the unifi router and Maxis is also using the same modem as Unifi, can I:
1. Hook up my unifi (dlink) router to maxis modem?
2. Configure that dlink router to be a wifi spot under a different dns domain.

How can I do that? The current Thomson router also cannot configure multiple wifi spots.

I think yes you can hookup the dlink to thomson, but as long u r ok with the dlink wireless capability..

just set the dlink to be access point and hook to LAN port of thomson.

Sorry, I think I wasn't being specific in my earlier post. I would like to have 2 routers running at the same time. One is the existing Maxis Thomson router. Another is the Dlink router. Through this setup, I will then have 2 Wifi spots at home, both are configured to a different DNS. I believe the default Maxis' DNS configuration is 192.168.1.xx while Unifi is 192.168.0.xx

Can this configuration be done? Because I think in the router, you also would need to specify your fibre broadband credentials. Essentially, can 1 account be shared among 2 routers but are hooked up to the same modem?

I have been using Maxis for 10 days now under private IP. No disconnection, no slow down. My brother's torrent is running fine. The TG799vn router has no issue at all. Since you don't game. The high ping issue won't bother you much.
QUOTE(ronnie @ Oct 20 2012, 09:15 AM)
Based on your requirement... Go for Maxis Home Fibre.
QUOTE(alexloon @ Oct 20 2012, 09:27 AM)
If you not tight budget, my advice is don't go for Maxis. Not worth for the hassle.
I thought my Maxis fibre finally settle down and should be happy with it after so many issue popping up in a month, this is my second month... new problem still showing up. Now i'm with 799vn with no disconnection since day one 24/7 operation.

Add on :
One more thing, my torrent and p2p start being throttled download. Different is 80% slower than first month. I seldom torrent and p2p but i do need it once a month or twice.

Source for testing - Highest Seed and on top speed condition on speedtest with cable and 3 days continuously test.

P2P now is worst than my old 1mb streamyx.
Thanks for the input guys. The more I read, the more I get the impression that it's a draw of luck? Anybody here with 20Mbps and 30Mbps package? Are disconnection and high ping times problems only isolated to the 10Mbps customers?

From what I gather, the consensus seem to point to the problematic router. I'm made to understand that if I use my own router (Asus RT-56U), I should have no disconnection problems, right?

Anyway, I'm very tempted to go the Maxis route since till today, TM has not contacted me to fix an appointment on when I can do the relocation to my new place. Perhaps, nobody gets any commission for existing customers...

For those who do not know that Maxis got an issue on billing for 1st statement charged full amoung RM118 instead of pro-rate.

My case was installation done on 27 Sept 2012.

I received a statement on 17 Oct 2012 (billing cycle 17 Sept -16 Oct 2012) being charged RM118.

Called CS and put into investigation.

For those who are not aware, please check your statement before payment.

Cheers

Anyone here having frequent disconnection issue today?
It is so annoying, every 5 minutes it disconnect and if lucky it will be automatically reconnect back, if not I need to switch off the router and turn it on back then only can use

Is maxis line problem or the router kaput?

My upgrading package from 10Mbps to 20Mbps in progress, will update here from time to time in term of:
- quality of service (speed direct download, speed p2p, video streaming, latency, disconnection, router heat, wifi signal)
- overall process of upgrading from existing package to new package the constraint
- others  brows.gif

postpone.
if i proceed to upgrade, free 600minutes will reduce to 200minutes call from voip to maxis mobile

This is for those who are using THOMSON TG784n router and JDownloader for its auto reconnection for new IP's. Not sure if this happens to everyone, but I found out after testing and some googling in which this router will not work properly with Jdownloader's LiveHeader reconnection script (including Raw Mode). Initially I tried to use batch file to run telnet command, and realized that the batch will not work once you get into telnet mode (as it requires keyboard input) and thus; I've resorted to another method.

You'll need several tools / applications for this to work, be noted that it is best to be used only when you are idle from the computer, since this is just a very basic script.

GUIDE FOR AUTO RECONNECTION SCRIPT WITH THOMSON TG784N
STEP 1a: Prepare the script below and save it as reconnection.ahk

WinWaitActive, Administrator: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe,
Send, exit{ENTER}
STEP 1b: Modify the script if necessary
You will only have to modify the green highlighted parts. If the location of telnet.exe is same as I posted above, you need not to make any modifications to it. By default, the script connects to the default router IP (192.168.1.254) with the ID of 'Administrator' and PW of 'yourpasswordhere'. Modify accordingly.

If you need to make modifications but unsure of how, you can either use AutoScriptWriter (recorder) that came with AutoHotkey or PM/reply here.

STEP 2: Attach the script to JDownloader Reconnection Script.
  1. Go to 'Settings'
  2. Click 'Reconnections' and select 'External' tab
  3. Select the saved .ahk file. Alternatively, you can compile the .ahk file (right click --> Compile Script) and use the compiled .exe file instead
  4. Check 'Use special executer for Windows'
  5. Under 'Showcase' below, click 'Change IP' to test if the script works or not.
    • If it doesn't; first try to run the script OUTSIDE of the Jdownloader and ensure that the script works, if it does not, somewhere is wrong with the script.
    • If it works outside of Jdownloader but not when attached to Jdownloader, ensure that the script runs exactly as it is when it is executed outside of JDownloader; if not, check everything again.

SUMMARY:
Basically, you can create the script in any other preferred language of yours. The main concept behind this is to:
  1. Launch Command Prompt (Telnet must be enabled as a Windows Feature) and type the following
  2. telnet 192.168.1.254
  3. enter your Username (e.g. Administrator)
  4. enter your Password (e.g. 12345)
  5. ppp ifdetach
  6. enter the interface name (default is eInternet)
  7. ppp ifattach
  8. enter the interface name (default is eInternet)
  9. type exit to quit telnet session
  10. press any key to back to command prompt
  11. type exit to quit command prompt window (IMPORTANT! I have tried to leave it as it is but the script will not work properly on 2nd iteration)

Hopefully this guide *CAN* help someone out there and if there's anything that I have missed out, mistakes or errors; feel free to inform me!

Thanks!
