hm.... do u feel 16gb is enough ? from what i understand the 16gb model can also already use the expand storage slot for an extra 32gb so this is more then enough isn't it ?

Also my media files is going to be located on my 2 qnaps at home with 12tb + storage space which i should be able to stream wirelessly over the internet to watch :/
Any other specs being changed in the upcoming newer s3 model ? cpu dualcore or quadcore ? 1 or 2gb ram ? etc ?
Speaking of which, i understand that malaysia only currently supports hspa, but does the phone have the lte4g feature in it for future proofing, or not ? Because according to wiki, some variants of the s3 had omitted this feature  hmm.gif

anyway people hoping wait for the samsung note 2, may be disappointed to know that it will come with ice cream sandwitch instead of the newer jelly bean.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-co...eatures-1089295

so better cpu, camera, bigger display size are almost to be expected. possibly even differen storage space and ram size. but software wise, i seriously doubt it will be any better than the galaxy s3 out already.

i'm not saying note 2 won't be superior hardware wise, it most likely will, but the question is in terms of value for money bang for bucks, s3 may be more worth it i suspect (well need to wait for the price anouncement in august 2012 to be sure).

but i don't think people would be disappointed getting an S3 now :/ unless they really want a bigger screen size or slightly better camera e.g. 12mp vs 8mp

Meanwhile The Verge has gained some information from sources regarding the Galaxy S3 and the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that was announced yesterday by Google. It is being claimed that last minute adjustments were made to the handsets specs in some markets to “future-proof” the handset in readiness for the new operating system. Samsung’s engineers were not completely sure of the software’s hardware requirements, so decided to push up the internal RAM to 2GB to make sure.

Sources are currently unaware of Samsung’s plans for releasing Android Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3, but considering the aging Nexus S is down to receive it the device will be more than capable of running the software.

Source:
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2012/06/28/s...ly-bean-update/

I'm wondering whether the s3 with only 1gb of ram will be sufficient to use the jelly bean :/ when samsung officially releases the update for the s3 if ever.

but one thing for sure, doesn't seem like s2 may be able to use it :/ apparently.

is there some sorta of widget to do it? i would b troublesome  to keep doin that process when i wanna use 3g for youtube and browsing and switch back to edge for normal sleep usage to receive watsapp. i would be nice to be able to toggle between edge and 3g.

Some launchers have widgets for it. Like go launcher. However, you need to be using those launchers in order for those widgets to work. Which is a bummer for me cause I don't like the candy pop feeling of go launcher

Anyone knows why S3 keeps checking and notifying new emails and facebook posts etc, even though I switch off 'account and sync' ?

I thought background sync is off. How can I stop it syncing automatically?

It's already off but still it checks/updates

Friend told me samsung is like that, automatic check even though off.

My other android phones dont have this issue, when 'account and sync' is off, there is no auto checking. Even play store cannot use and app updates are off.

But S3 (samsung?) still checks and allows play store to start. icon_question.gif

that sync option is only for your google accounts and any other accounts registered under Settings > account and sync.

individual apps u need to turn off the sync within the app settings.

The Galaxy Nexus does Jelly Bean fine. And how much RAM does it have? 1GB last I checked.

Plus, your S2 info is outdated. A week back SamMobile has news that Sammy ALREADY has S2 and S3 JB builds in testing, and is planning to release in a couple of months.

Trust me, if I know Sammy, "a couple of months" is gonna "mysteriously" coincide with the announcement of the new iPhone.

well thats good to hear for the s2 users :] personally though, i'm getting S3 so less risk there cool.gif

may i know though, is this OS upgrade via firmware a recent new thing ? Or has the smartphone market been doing this a while ? Or does it always end having to purchase a new phone to get the newer OS ?

Because my plan for an S3 is to be future proofed, so i can upgrade the os when updates for android roll out over time.

granted that there will be stuff i am sure it isn't able to do due to lack of hardware needed, but i think it's almost got everything, although i'm a bit worried about whether the malaysia 1gb ram is sufficient for future proofing hmm.gif the quad core cpu is pretty decent so not too worried about that sweat.gif

Added on July 25, 2012, 8:50 amBy the way guys/girls i found a very hilarious clip when asking the samsung and iphone, which is the best smartphone laugh.gif

You're worrying too much about the future, IMHO. Phones are obsolete the moment they get to your hands lol. As a rule of thumb, the S3, or any modern pieces of mobile tech is good for 2 years. Any more and it gets HOPELESSLY left behind.

But future proofing wise, the S3 should be okay up to Key Lime Pie (the next update after JB). Anything after that would be a stretch, as per the two year limit. At least OFFICIALLY.

Unofficially, even the relatively old Nexus One should get JB, thanks to enterprising custom ROM builders.

And the current mobile OS update craze? Google and Apple started it lol. Which is actually a good thing - during the Symbian/WM days of old, a new OS usually meant having to buy new phones to come with it.

oh alrite :{

but one last thing though, since amoled has degradable organic component how long is the expect life time on that ?

QUOTE
AMOLED life expectancy
One of the chief issues with AMOLED displays is the lifetime. Although much has been achieved to improve the displays, the first ones to be introduced commercially only had lifetimes of around 15 000 hours.
Figures of this order are quite acceptable for mobile phones which are replaced fairly regularly and the display may only be on for relatively short periods, but for televisions or computer monitors that have much higher usage rates, the half life becomes an issue.

http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/data...rix-organic.php

so although samsung s3 is better than the htc one x in terms of having a replacable battery (curious why htc didn't opt for this), but the samsung is also has an expiry on it's display which obviously is not going to be replacable either.

If the phone can physically last 5 years, i think that is a winner already smile.gif

speaking of which, microsoft are paying the price in market share by looking down on the potential of android.

QUOTE
By November, Samsung Electronics Co., Motorola and LG all signed on to Google's "open handset alliance," a consortium of more than 30 hardware makers, carriers and application companies that said they would help build Android devices.

When asked for his reaction to the alliance, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer nearly cracked up laughing during a press conference in Tokyo. "We have many, many millions of customers," he said. "They're welcome in our world." (Microsoft now has a very small market share in smartphone operating systems.)
