arg, weekend again, thread sink again
okay, here are some questions about my last 2 days found one of the diffuser item for flash gun - gary fong lightsphere. I check the price over shinsinki seem it is not a cheap stuff for a simple plastic, having to say so a diffuser is pricing rm260 and pro kit is >rm650. understand the price so high is his own invention, by judging the before & after photo use lightsphere, it gave nice effect and it is seem very fit to me (noob-did know when need to rotate/adjust the flash bounce) as the flash just need always face up to ceiling. But does anyone have REAL experience of lightsphere diffuser in alpha flash? does this product worth for its price? someone hinted lightsphere is rely on the ceiling, but does this work for MOST of msia building ceiling (haha noob question), speak of imitation, anyone other brand give similar result but even more cheaper? I check at Dpreview, someone mentioned lambercy... also, does anyone use GF powersnoot as well, doing homework up front and calculating needed funding |

All the sample shots for all diffusers out there looks perfect. For that amount of money? Hmm. I'd rather get a studio softbox. I have a Demb diffuser pro. Quite expensive also, but I got mine at a cheap price. okay, here are some questions about my last 2 days found one of the diffuser item for flash gun - gary fong lightsphere. jimlim, not worth it. the experience you learn from using the bounce shift, is more worth then that rm6xx/3xx.
summore, any diffuser design (except demb diffusor) will eat up several stops of light. meaning, normal bounce use 1/4 power to light up the subject 8 meter away, but with GFLS will take up 1/1 power(2 stop)! that makes flash cycle slower! and takes up more power, and the design that wrap around the flash head makes Overheating Easier. even stofen will taken bout 1 stop. so in the end. Learn How to Use Bounce properly. for condition without Ceiling, u can use Wall bounce technique, or the built in bounce card is More Then Enough. or Demb diffuser (imitate of larger bouncer card) is another good alternative. i think most ppl with experience will agree with this. |

Absolutely agree with ieR's statement.
Anyway I used to DIY own bounce card. Works perfectly as I wanted it to. Also acts as a white/18%grey card as well when needed (double sided surface). But eventually phased out from using it, now if I need, I just use the built in bounce card. |

Who say pro will use MF? If you know your physics, incident light angle is equals to reflected light angle. So angle of bounce can be estimated.

Jimlim... honestly... the angle of bounce thing. is a CHILD play.
give me 10 minute to draw. Added on August 13, 2012, 12:39 am Jimlim, are you familiar with a "Bouncing Ball" law of gravity/bounce (if such law existed)... when u throw a ball off, 90degree down, the ball bounce back 90degree right? so u if throw is 120 degree down, it will bounce 120 degree back up (it Wont bounce 90degree, dont say spinning ball laaa)... the logic apply to BOUNCE. so here you go with a lapsap cheatsheet from me.... ![]() if you look properly, u notice that, where ever ur subject is, u always bounce right in (directly) middle of between u and subject? see the idea? YES, IT IS THAT SIMPLE. period. all you need is bounce right in the middle of between u and subject. you dont need to be PRO to learn. Added on August 13, 2012, 12:48 amBTW, the gary fong cheat sheet is not good... why? because it doesnt show u other distant u need... it show a fixed distant... impossible u need to stay at that shooting distance fixed bah, and that is just close up of the face, u will notice they dont show the body because of the design, the light that reach below the 'flash's height' is like only 20%, so u get under exposed body, but 'so called' nice face shadow... there is a lot things u would know and easily manipulate by marketing gimmicks... and, well if i am marketing officer for gary, i can make even better marketing sheet! i can convince you not only buy 1 but buys 2 in 10 sec after reading. its a "EASY" job to manipulate ppl la. just hide all the weakness, blast out all the nice things. Agreed with ieR. No need to spend so much money buying diffusers. I hardly use anything other than the built-in bounce card on my F58 flash.
- Big diffusers are a pain to carry around. They are bulky and you will have a hard time trying to fit them in your bag. - They are a pain to setup, especially for the demb. So many separate parts and you need to flip here, flip there and if you're in a hurry, you can kiss your photo op goodbye if you fiddle with your diffuser. - If the ceiling is low enough to bounce, then bounce works just a well. If the ceiling is too high for bounce, then diffusers also lose their effectiveness. They do depend on bounced light too. Just my thoughts. |
