hi there. I am looking for a laptop for my sister. She's still a student, doing matriculation actually.

Preferred brands : anything really, as long as it has a good rep smile.gif (including after sales service)
Budget : around rm1000 - rm1500 +-
Usage : mostly educational stuffs i guess, tho i can't seem to have a clear idea of why she needs a laptop when she is still in matriculation, but because she needs it for a subject called Science Comm.
Preferred laptop size : 13" - 14"

do recommend a laptop please smile.gif

p/s : is there any laptop within that price range that loads a 4GB RAM?
*
Hmm, scientific communication mostly involves Microsoft Office, so there's noneed for a very powerful laptop nod.gif
Can consider these:
14"
Fujitsu LH531-MYEAJ10532/45/46, B960 + nVidia G410M@RM1460, W7HB, color:Black/Red/Pink

Lenovo G470, B960 + Intel HD3000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB, W7HP

Prices are in RRP, you can still bargain, and a 4GB RAM will cost you around RM70 or so nod.gif

"Light gaming" is pretty general bro laugh.gif
If it involves FB games only, then there's no need for a laptop with dGPU at all...
But I'm assuming here that you are doing some actual gaming:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2199[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional

Lenovo
Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W7HB, colors: grey/red/blue
Y480 (5934-1161), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2499[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, FreeDOS, 2 years international warranty

The Y480 tops in terms of performance, but do take note that it doesn't come with an OS (OS-version is RM2.7k)

Budget-line laptops are not as reliable as premium-line laptops... but it can be easily made up with good warranty support, hence I'm recommending Dell and Lenovo to you:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14, i3-2370M + Intel HD3000@RM1299[2.1kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP
Lenovo G470, B960 + Intel HD3000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB, W7HP

*The price for the G470 may be a little bit outdated, do check with shops for more recent pricing and specs
*For both models, use the remaining money to extend to 3 years onsite warranty, that'll save you a lot of hassle nod.gif

Light is pretty subjective hmm.gif
How light is your light?
Are 2.2-2.4kg laptops considered as heavy for you?

Can consider these:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2199[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Lenovo Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W7HB, colors: grey/red/blue

If you prefer something lighter (but weaker), then:
14"
Dell
[Ultrabook]Inspiron 14z, i3-2367M + Intel HD3000 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.87kg], 4GB, W7HP
[Ultrabook]Inspiron 14z, i5-3317U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2599[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm) *no VGA port

HP
[Ultrabook] Envy4-1043TX/1053TX, i5-3317U + AMD HD7670M + [32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)]@RM2599[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP
[Ultrabook] Envy 4-Ultrabook 4-1035TU, i3-2377M + Intel HD3000 + [32GB mSATA+ 500GB HDD(5400rpm)]@RM2199, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP

Lenovo [Ultrabook]U410, i5-3317U + Nvidia G610M + 32GBSSD + 320GB(5400rpm)@RM2599,W7HP, colors: grey/pink, 2 years international warranty

*Use your remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years icon_rolleyes.gif

[Ultrabook]XPS 14, i7-3517U + Nvidia GT630M + 128GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM4299[2.1kg], 8GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard

Well that sums up everything.
Sony not my preference as well because of after sales service issue i had with them previously.
Dell would be it and so happen i should be able to get discount out of it.
