Wah, nice budget there brows.gif
Can consider these:
14"
Dell
[Ultrabook]XPS 14, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3799[2.1kg], 4GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard
[Ultrabook]XPS 14, i7-3517U + Nvidia GT630M + 128GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM4299[2.1kg], 8GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard
[Ultrabook]XPS 14, i7-3517U + Nvidia GT630M + 512GB SSD + (1600x900)@RM5599[2.1kg], 8GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard

If you don't mind a standard (but light) subnotebook, then these:
13"
Sony
Vaio SVS13A15GGB, i7-3520M + Nvidia GT640M LE + (1600x900)@RM4799[1.67kg], 8GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7P
Vaio SVS13118GGB, i7-3520M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3999[1.67kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7P
Vaio SVS13116FGB, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3299[1.72kg], 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP
Vaio VPCSA36GG/T, i7-2640M + AMD HD6630M + (1600x900) + 128GB SSD@RM6499[1.61kg], 8GB, W7P

If you only want Toshiba or Dell:
Recommending a 15" notebook since the larger workspace would be better for your engineering work-
15.6"
Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M@RM2799, 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional

Otherwise, you can take a look at the Lenovo Y580 as well, its way more powerful, and the specs it offers is a lot better:
Lenovo Y580(59-345124), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty

Is it worth getting 3rd generation i7-3610QM (2.3GHz, Turbo 3.3GHz, 6M cache) instead of 3rd generation i5-3210M (2.5GHz, Turbo 3GHz, 3M cache) for additional RM 500?

hmm.gif
"college use" is too general...
An engineering student will use different programs compared to those of science students etc.
Some require more CPU power, whereas some barely uses it laugh.gif

hi there. I am looking for a laptop for my sister. She's still a student, doing matriculation actually.

Preferred brands : anything really, as long as it has a good rep smile.gif (including after sales service)
Budget : around rm1000 - rm1500 +-
Usage : mostly educational stuffs i guess, tho i can't seem to have a clear idea of why she needs a laptop when she is still in matriculation, but because she needs it for a subject called Science Comm.
Preferred laptop size : 13" - 14"

do recommend a laptop please smile.gif

p/s : is there any laptop within that price range that loads a 4GB RAM?
