"There is nothing wrong with the Lenovo Y580's design, no problem on mobo, hardisk location. Y580 & Y480 are specially design for gamer, there are very strict requirements on the interior design. The thermal design on the previous Y series are not satisfactory. We put in a lot of effort on Y580's thermal design, we are sure that better cooling for CPU, GPU, mobo & other parts.
Then why the HDD is hot?
Y580 using 1TB hardisk, itself give out quiet a lot of heat. The location of the HDD is after very carefull consideration. Someone said is too close to CPU, it make people laugh. HDD near to CPU will only raise the HDD's temp slightly, but it will not affect its usage, lifespan and stability. If we have some knowledge, we will know some parts on the mobo will easily go above 50c. Y580's thermal design and temp control is relatively better than many other notebook.
Y580 is with the effort of many people, backlit keyboard, a better samsung panel/ hardisk, full Kepler GPU. Y580 is one of the modal under Lenovo high quality control, so please see the fact and analyse objectively.
Y580 is with the effort of many designer & researcher, if you has disassembly it, you will realise the workmanship are good. 1366x768 reso on 15.6" screen is not high, we have not incl the FHD screen at launch due to marketing strategic. After carefull consideration, we have chosen a better LCD panel from Samsung or LG with stringent test to compensate for its low resolution.
