I recently had success setting up PPPoE for a new router. The trick was to set maxis VLAN to 11. VLAN 621 is for maxis partner (maybe your infra is maxis and you subscribed to TM Unifi). Keeping this info in case it helped anyone.
*
That VLAN ID means you are using Maxis Fibre on Maxis on Infra
621 is Maxis Fibre on TM Unifi Infra

Got a few more other VLAN IDs for different Infra providers

With reference to this topic. I did attempt to do the samething.

I was helping a friend to change her original Maxis router to TP-Link AX5400 which is more powerful. At the same time, I figured out that the phone cannot be used.

1. I asked my friend to call Maxis CS if we can connect the phone to ONU instead of the Maxis router. She (from Maxis CS) said cannot. I asked for the ONU login, she didn't give what I wanted. She just repeat the PPOE username and password.

The Maxis CS said I can only connect my own custom router after Maxis router eventhough I told her I am very confident that I can use the phone ports in ONU.

She also don't want to give the SIP information. She said she don't know what is SIP.

2. Hence, I asked Maxis CS to give the administrator login for Maxis router. She gave and I found out the SIP details.

3. I found out the login for ONU which is HG8240. I able to create VLAN 822 and obtain IP from DHCP.

4. I able to configure VOIP on POTS 1 using the configuration I copied from old Maxis router. Phone is working.

Lesson: If you are confident with your technical background, go for it and don't believe everything from the CS.

You are lucky to have a HG8240 without the webUI disabled.

Are you on TM or Maxis Infra?

Posting my setup notes to use the Maxis supplied Huawei HG8240H5 ONT for VOIP.

Package: Maxis Fibre for Business
Environment: TM Unifi infra
Prerequisite:
- Your phone number, (e.g. 0312345678, don't have the +6 or 6 in front).
- Your SIP password. You need to call Maxis for this. For me, they asked for the serial number of my Maxis-supplied router (aminia MA131) and your Maxis account number

Login to HG8240H5
- Plug cable into Eth Port 1
- Set laptop IP manually (IP: 192.168.1.2, Subnet: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.1.1, DNS: 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4)
- Browse to 192.168.1.1
- Login with Username: telecomadmin PW: admintelecom (Your unit may be different)

Setup WAN for VOIP
- Checking if your WAN VOIP network is up. It was not running and message was obtaining IP address
- The VLAN Id was set to 400.
- Change it to 822 and Apply. For reference, it is priority 6, and VOIP mode.
- The WAN VOIP should be up with an IP address

Setup SIP
- I followed this video
- Outbound Primary & Alternate Proxy: bvgw03.maxis.com.my
- Primary & Alternate Proxy: maxis.com.my
- Domain: maxis.com.my
- Digitmax Map : Max

That's it. Good luck

Hi Sifus,

Having issue connecting my Asus AX4200 router to Maxis Fibre with HG6240A (TM infra).

Special ISP option Used : Maxis Fibre

WAN Internet shows connected with IP address in Router Admin Page but all devices are not connected to internet .

When I use Maxis Router TP Link EX230V , it works.

Saw some difference between two router:

Asus the WAN Internet is connected (internet LED Blinking).
IP given starts with 172.x.x.x and DNS was blank.

TP Link WAN internet connected
IP starts with 10.x.x.x and DNS is provided

From what you describe, the setup is correct. But now 172.x is the walled-garden internal IP. Can be due to incorrect PPPOE username and password.
Make sure the format of your username is something like A12345@home.maxis.com.my, And the password is something like A123451. If you somehow subscribe public IP, try to refer back your old router for the username.

Thank you! You were spot on. It was due to wrong ID. The old router had some characters hidden.

@Anime4000, I wonder if you can help me trouble shoot a little problem on my setup

I managed to get a phone working on my Maxis supplied Huawei HG8240H5 ONT. I can receive calls, but I am NOT able to call out. When I call my mobile phone, it wakes up but the call drops immediately. The call ends with a "We are sorry we are unable to... " American-sounding voice on the Maxis VOIP phone. When I checked my mobile phone, it registered 5 calls from the Maxis VOIP number.

I appreciate any pointers on what to look.

PS: I don't know how to tag / cc Anime4000 in my message. Can someone help me get Anime4000's attention? 🙏🙏🙏
