KLIA2 40% completed By JEEVA ARULAMPALAM Friday July 29, 2011
SEPANG: Airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is more than 40% into the construction of KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2), its official said.
MAHB chief financial officer Faizal Mansor said that road works linking KLIA2 were underway and building structures were being put in place.
More details on the progress of the permanent low-cost carrier terminal would be announced soon, he told reporters yesterday at the company's second-quarter results briefing.
Faizal also said that the cost of development for KLIA2 remained at the estimated RM2bil “until an update was made otherwise” and it was working towards the October 2012 completion deadline.
A model of the KLIA2.
QUOTE
“Another trend we used to see at KLIA and the low-cost carrier terminal was 60% of the passenger movement came from domestic flights while the balance was from international flights. But now, both domestic and international passengers account for 50% each, thus proving that KLIA is increasingly becoming an international hub,” he said.
MAHB expects another two to three new airlines to start flying into KLIA. Faizal added that with Malaysia Airlines now part of the Oneworld alliance, the airport operator had started talks with British Airways and Australia's Qantas Airways about both airlines possibly re-looking at flying into KLIA.
“That will help us make KLIA a stronger hub but we will leave it to the airlines to make the relevant announcements,” he said, when asked if the airlines had given a timeframe in wanting to resume flights to Kuala Lumpur.
Wasting money project....The KLIA can't even used up it 50% capacity....now want to make another LCCT. Should put everything into KLIA...budget and premium airline.
KLIA make it so big but inside so empty......this is most empty international airport i ever see.....

Not really..
KLIA current handling capacity is 40 million passengers per year
Last year's passengers traffic is 37 million passengers

I say International Airport......World Class Airport.....KLIA are the most empty world class airport i ever see so far base on my travel experience...it so empty....so less passenger....

I prefer controversial racial issues. Anyways, there should be a pinned thread, perhaps? Maybe naming it "The Rakyat Connection" or some shit that you can think of.
You didn't get the point yet......KLIA was the Size of Changi Airport...even bigger than Changi....Changi Airport can handle 42M passenger a year and they still thinking the airport still big enough for them .... Malaysia KLIA only handle until 37M already want to make another new airport KLIA 2. When the KLIA 2 was finished ...it will make even more airliner go over there......this will make KLIA even less passenger.....so huge terminal inside all empty....like a Ghost Terminal.
This will very pathetic.......KLIA 2 "budget airport" will so many passenger so crowded while KLIA first class airport inside so empty.......Where got a country in this world thier LCCT airport handle passenger more than their 1st class airport.....

Changi airport floor area is 1,048,220 squared metre compared to KLIA's 514,694 squared metre
Changi airport is actually more underutilized than klia. current handling capacity is 57 million passengers per year. Last year's traffic. is only 42 millions passengers.
they are openning Terminal Four, increasing capacity to 73 million passengers per year.
I think it is good to build for the future. KLIA2 is gonna be where any future expansions shall take place. KLIA shall remain to cater for full-service airlines and cargo.
I dun see y we shud be unhappy about being a low cost airlines hub. It is good bizness.

You don't travel much la. Most airport are designed to have that expansive and empty look. HK, Changi Airport looks relatively empty for T1, T2 and T3 (worse on the now defunct Budget Terminal). The two airports I have seen with non stop traffic would have to be KL LCCT and KKIA2. KKIA2 has way too much traffic for its size. If Changi Airport is nowhere near its brink, then why would they need to demolish their budget terminal to build T4?
That's really big. hopefully it won't be underutilised, otherwise it's condition will be in a sorry state very soon (maintenance cost should be quite high)

It will be highly utilised due to the fact that existing LCCT operation will move to KLIA2.
Apparently the connection between the 2 parts is a skybridge. hopefully they have fast & wide walkalators running there & not make it into a pasar malam.

Definitely AirAsia will be single largest customer.
Other than that......Cebu Pacific
Tiger flies to lcct from singapore. Maybe Jetstar will move there.
Given that MAHB would lose money for every airline shifts from KLIA 1 to KLIA 2, it might want to discourage airlines apart from Airasia from moving to KLIA 2

The airport looks like designed with AirAsia in mind for sure.
It is rumoured that AK HQ will be around that terminal too.
i wonder wat will happen to current LCCT? and KLIA since MAS gonna bankrupt soon liao..
old LCCT will be function fully as cargo terminal... means all cargo service will use current LCCT when KLIA2 construction complete ... about MAS, i cant give comment, as they really repairing their service ( in term of flight ticket ).. hope really can boost up flag carrier, and reopen certain route which already discontinued....
I am at KLIA main terminal (domestic terminal) right now - 10am and I notice that the occupancy is very low. I wonder why MAHB didnt want to offer AA to relocate some of their planes to KLIA (from LCCT).

expansion of airports is normal. those of u who havent been to lcct durign peak time wont know the feeling. totally packed with people. all the kedai also penuh.nak duduk also no place. toilet also the cleaner cant clean fast enough.
new terminal should make the experience of takign airasia better.
klia actually can support up to 5 runways. that is how huge the land owned by klia.
If MAS gives more discount on tickets fare, more people will be using Mas. During idris Jala time, ticket price is affordable. Kl-sibu rm160 boleh dpt. Now, semua rm250 ke atas
Added on June 1, 2012, 11:12 amThat land owned by government or mahb aaaah? I dunno.

Why is there a need for KLIA2 when KLIA itself is so underutilize. Why not merge LCCT and KLIA into 1 terminal? It really doesn't make any sense to have another airport JUST for low cost carriers (AA).

It makes cents, if there is money to be made. Current LCCT is nearing capacity, with current facilities (ie; parking lots, chairs, McD). But to optimize current or to build new ...is all about money.

Other than Kroni projects lar. I'm giving government the benefit of the doubt. Of coz when you look at it from a songlap/wastage point of view then it makes a lot of sense.
AirAsia wanted to build "KLIA East" in Labu, so that AirAsia can have their own terminal (or even an airport)
KLIA East is 8.6 km away from KLIA.
Then, government negotiated the issue and came out with a compromise.
MAHB build a new LCCT near KLIA with AirAsia's input.
Labu is in N9.
Oooh, so this is a political/business play la. Still don't understand why AA cannot just use KLIA lor. Not like KLIA very busy until cannot handle AA flights like that. KLIA2 no airport tax for AA meh if the main problem is AA dowan to pay the taxes for KLIA? Then what's going to happen to LCCT after KLIA2 is open? Feel like so much wastage. Although it really really showcase our Malaysian way of doing things. "Build new instead of optimizing."

Me : Is there any plan for aerotrain extension to KLIA2?
MAHB man : At this moment, not being planned
Me : Oh, sounds inconvenient to me
MAHB man : Got ERL extension ma...
I believe there is aerotrain in future, not that soon, maybe after 5 years time. I just wish the MAS management could manage their money well properly and not rely on public fund anymore...it makes them look stupid!

it should not be built at sepang from the start...
the road to lcct, along the sepang stretch is uneven and cracked. Multiple re-tarring is ineffective.
I've only noticed this on the way out to the roundabout near the mosque if you are coming from lcct. Even then, it's only at the leftmost lane after the ERL bridge.

thats the spot, approx 1km worth of adrenaline driving.

Where should it have been built then?
Suvarnabhumi received the same criticisms. That was how its other name "Swampy" came from. But now, virtually everyone is happy the airport was built, though some still like to use that other name.

I don't see the problem of building it in Sepang.
Anyway, history goes, initially the airport supposed to be built somewhere in the north, closer to Rawang/Bukit Beruntung.

If the design is not well done. I think settlement is likely to happen in DEEP peat.
Bear in mind that the intended life cycle of KLIA is 100years. Hopefully, there will be no differential settlement in the next 100 years lor... otherwise, more $$ needed...

This is what the rakyat have been questioning... Why can't AA move to KLIA? Who's blocking AA from moving into KLIA?
Don't tell me that Malaysia Airlines (MAS) owns Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB) and MAS can dictate MAHB's decision.

KLIA got 80++ Gate enough for AA + MAS....totally no need another Terminal. International route aircraft already got international terminal.
Why can't AA move to KLIA? Who's blocking AA from moving into KLIA?
According to this 2008 report, moving AirAsia into the main terminal of KLIA will cause utilization to exceed the capacity of the latter:
"At present, with the rise in tourism travel into the country, the utilisation rate of the KLIA was quite strong at 80% of capacity, with the conventional terminal handling about 20 million out of 25 million annual capacity and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) taking about 8 million passengers out of 10 million annual capacity."
Note - By 2010, the number of passengers using LCCT had already reached about 15 million.
Then Malaysia will face the same situation as Thailand, where AirAsia becomes a target (or may be the own preference of AirAsia) asked to quit Suvarnabhumi and move to the isolated Don Mueang.

The engineering bay is 1km away from the building compared to LCCT where it's not even 100m.
Expect long delays when an aircraft is grounded!
MAS Engineering bay are almost 4km away from KLIA main Terminal.
Last time we like the tow the aircraft from Bay to Gate....because towing aircraft from Bay to Gate will used 1 hour timing....So we can rest / Snake for 1 hour

Those towing on Perth are from Parking lot to Gate....Becasue Perth are not AAX hub...so you cannot parking on gate for long time...wasting Gate. So will be towing to parking bay.
Even at KLIA...MAS aircraft will be towing to parking bay also because dun want wasted the Gate.

Orang tua kenot brain this ..why pulak wanna tow out MAS plane out from gate?? can they just drive out?
Orang tua kenot brain this ..why pulak wanna tow out MAS plane out from gate?? can they just drive out?
airport operator =/= airliners
thus, if the aircraft were to stay-over (depends on the duration, sometimes maybe just an overnight) they will be parked at the 'parking area'.
So, when the aircraft is good for operation, it will be towed from parking to the gate. The plane will be not driven because its not the pilot job to park and un-park the aircraft. Its the aircraft engineer's job.
If the plane are parked at the gate for a stay-over, the airline has to pay 'rental' fee to the airport operator for using the airport utilities. The longer it stays on the ground, the more money airline has to pay to airport operator. (That's why AA aircrafts will be on ground for a very short time to reduce the rental fees)
Like in KLIA for instance, you will most probably seen a 747 with Tabung Haji written on the tail rudder parked on the tarmac infront of gate A. The aircraft is leased from MAS to Tabung Haji for hajj season.
And oh, not to mention, not all tarmacs are of MAB (Malaysia Airport Berhad) property. Some of the tarmac are of MAS property. Same goes to Subang airport.
Then why did they come out with another airport design, shouldn't MAHB follow the KLIA design for consistency and harmonious integration of design. Sometimes, i just cannot brain why malaysians do things in certain ways....

because KLIA design is not MAHB's and to reappoint the same consultant is a waste as the consultant in question may play2 in prefessional fees...
I heard that there's no connectivity between klia and klia2... both cannot integrate into 1 piece...
wht u mean by connectivity?
physical connetivity? nope. the buildings are hundred meter apart. transport wise connectivity? yup. u can board the ERL from KLIA to KLIA 2 and vice versa. flight connectivity? nope, youve got to go through the immigration (for internationals) get off the arrival halls and board the ERL, airport cab, busses or ur own transport to go to KLIA2 and hv urselves checked in and vice versa.

i cannot brain why everyone thinks that klia is going to closed down when klia2 opens...
klia is the main building handling MAS and other Airlines like JAL, Emirates,Thai Airways etc etc.
KLIA2 will be a welcome addition to KLIA for handling the low cost carriers especially AirAsia.
For those who havent or didnt notice the area around LCCT, it is full of cargo related infrastructure. U got the Animal Hotel, Pos Malaysia, and the Cargo Terminal.
Moving AirAsia operations to KLIA2 would make the current LCCT area more condusive for cargo movement. when LCCT is pack the whole area slows to a crawl. Busses, cars and lorries jostle for road space. LCCT parking area for AirAsia is also insufficient.
By separating cargo and people it would make life easier for alot of people.
I think there is one flaw in terms of connectivity between KLIA and KLIA2.
ERL is mainly for transport to KL, I don't it is convenient for a transiting passenger to transfer between terminal using ERL. MAHB should have extend KLIA Aerotrain for inter-terminal transport.

kampung says wat i want to say...
Anybody knows the utility rate of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport? AA can just be relocated to there actually...
Currently, LCCT is handling about 15.4 million passengers a year. According to reports, AirAsia projected the number to reach 30 million within a few years.
In any case, Subang is not a suitable place. It is isolated, transiting is too troublesome. Besides, a crash will probably kill and injure thousands of people on the ground. LCCT and the new KLIA2 are easily accessible by ERL (with a short bus journey from Salak Tinggi currently), which is well connected to other major cities in Peninsula Malaysia through TBS, KL Sentral, ETS, LRT etc. Similarly, if AirAsia really shifts from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang, it may lose tons of business.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Construction of new low-cost terminal KLIA2 is on track for completion in April next year, says UEM Group Bhd, the main contractor for the new airport.
Managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Izzaddin Idris said there were some delays in the construction period earlier due to design realignments.
“We’re just the contractor. Any commitments required have to come from the Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
“The project is on track,” Izzaddin told reporters after UEM’s Hari Raya open house here today.
The KLIA2 caused a rift between MAHB and the biggest tenant of the new airport, AirAsia, mainly due to claims by the former on bloated construction and a series of delays.
The airport was first scheduled to be operational in April 2012.
On August 23, AirAsia Group chief executive and founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said Malaysia Airports had told AirAsia to get ready for April launching of KLIA2.
UEM Group, through its wholly-owned unit, UEM Construction Sdn Bhd, and joint-venture partner, Bina Puri Holdings Bhd, are the main contractors for the project, on a 60:40 joint-venture basis. — Bernama
KLIA2 is for low cost budget airlines replacing the crowded LCCT.. memang patut liao ... Good for the image of KL.. We kenot have a warehouse style airport like LCCT
KLIA 2 to start with 10 airlines in 2013 Published: 2012/09/13
KUALA LUMPUR: The new Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) Terminal, KLIA 2 in Sepang, is set to host 10 frills-free airlines once it is operational in May 2013, says Faizal Mansor, Chief Financial Officer of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
He said the airport operator is still open to welcome more airlines to use KLIA 2, as the airport is capable of serving 45 million passengers per year.
He added that KLIA 2 is designed to accommodate all types of airlines, but it is best suited for airlines with low-cost business model.
"Once the airport is operational in May 2013, MAHB will have almost 10 low-cost carriers flying from there. Among them are Zest Airways, Lion Air, Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific Air and definitely, AirAsia.
"We would love to welcome more airlines to KLIA 2. Five years ago, there were only five low-cost carriers but now there are about 30 to 40 budget carriers," Faizal told Bernama in an interview.
He said the latest to join the group of airlines is Malindo Airways, which was introduced on Tuesday, through a joint-venture between National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd (NADI) and PT Lion Grup.
On Malindo Airways, Faizal said MAHB will commence detailed discussion with the new budget carrier soon, particularly on the level of space and facilities that it needs at the new airport. "We have very plain understanding and have not gone to the details yet.
"MAHB welcomes the new airline to Malaysia as well as to KLIA 2. For an airport, the more the competition, the better," he added.
KLIA 2 is being constructed at a cost of nearly RM4 billion, to replace the temporary LCC Terminal, which was constructed in 2006.
The new airport, located just two kilometres from the main Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminal, would be the largest LCC Terminal in the region upon completion, with a total area of 242,000 sq metres.
KLIA 2 will also feature a multi-modal transportation hub for buses, taxis, and Express Rail Link (ERL) train to provide connectivity for passengers and also for the public, in addition to the semi-automated baggage handling system, support zones, cargo and in-flight complexes, a 6,000-vehicle parking complex, two to three hotels and AirAsia's future headquarters.
The opening of KLIA 2 will also help make Malaysia as one of the aviation hubs in Southeast Asia. -- BERNAMA
klia2 to start operations May 1 By BILQIS BAHARIPublished: 2012/10/24
THE highly talked about low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT), klia2, will commence operations on May 1 next year, says Malay-sia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) chief financial officer Faizal Mansor.
klia2, which is designed to cater to 30 million passengers a year with a provision to expand to 45 million passengers, is currently 65 per cent complete.
In terms of the new terminal's cost, which currently stands at RM4 billion, Faizal said there would not be any increase if there are no changes in the scope of work.
"We are working very hard in making sure that it remains below our budgeted cost of RM4 billion. As at this stage, as long as the scope remains as per the requirements, we don't see it going above RM4 billion," he said at a media briefing to announce MAHB's third-quarter financial results yesterday.
Meanwhile, commenting on Air-Asia group chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes' decision to move the budget carrier from the current LCCT to klia2, Faizal said it is good news and MAHB wants to be able to work very well with the budget carrier.
However, he said, there are still some outstanding issues between them, particularly on AirAsia's office and check-in counters, adding that MAHB will find ways to solve the issues as long as they do not compromise passengers' comfort and safety.
"We've got 100 requests to meet the requirements and 97, (or) 98 of those requirements have been met," he said.
On the formulation of a service-level agreement (SLA) between AirAsia and MAHB at klia2, Faizal said: "We have conditions of use but some airlines, in particular, domestic airlines AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) have requested for a separate SLA. So we are working on finalising the SLA".

I like Malaysian airport taking a stand to include the bridge to help disabled and old citizens. Whereas tony insisted against to keep boarding cost low.
In my honest opinion, don get the low cost and the high end together. Later the 'low cost' will affect the standard. I like KLIA current condition. Look at LCCT toilet now, so dirty. Err...

I don't see it as an issue.
Effectively, both the existing MTB and the current LCCT are both managed by MAHB.
Toilet wise, even the MTB is not that good
At least going to KLIA2 will be easier than current LCCT.
All KLIA2 progress threads by Kampung hv been merged into this Ultimate progress thread.. Hope he will only post here rather than 2 wks once KLIA2 thread haha
Nais.. Looks better than KLIA The front middle main Buiding windows panels reminded me of Incheon Airport...but they have more such gigantic windows panels...Anyway, Still far cry away from Incheon
Lets say at the moment, travelling to current LCCT is much further than to the main terminal building of KLIA.
This new LCCT is much closer to the main terminal of KLIA, that means it is actually closer to KL city area than the current LCCT.
Aside from that, for transit passengers and non-passengers, shopping will be a big item as KLIA2 had been designed with retail component in mind, in fact its shopping space is larger than the other terminal of KLIA.
i think the klia2 project is waste of money, look at spore, they have the busiest airport in the world and yet they didn't came up with a new airport, just upgrading the system to be more efficient oso can la.

SG cannot expand liaolah bcos no landbank unless they build one facing Pasir Gudang & block the shipping ways to Pasir Gudang port .. When is your last going to LCCT? Do you know how cramp is this LCCT? Last week during my way back, I saw foreigners cramping & queing into the transit area which is so small.. Not enough room fro transit passengers!! and that was early 5am! Furthermore, our LCCT look luike a warehouse and I have seeing foreigners shaking heads thinking how come capital of KL having such a lousy terminal!

no i mean, the klia can be much more efficient..no need for lcct and klia2 at the first place, i remembered reading somewhere when tony said about having a 3 lane system instead of 2 lane in klia.

Current KLIA too small liao to cater for the double the capacity of current LCCT. The current LCCT served more passenger than the main KLIA! So if LCCT moved to KLIA.. habis liao.. another sardine.. furthermore our KLIA looks small compare to Bangkok Swanambumi, HK, Pudong, Incheon, Haneda.. we need another bigger airport for sure..Even Jakarta already having 3 terminals and their terminal 1 & 2 is not small indeed
LCCT is so crowded like it is gonna explode. Lucky we are getting this. And to those that say wast of money do U want to be stuck in the sardine can of LCCT ? It is so bad waterfall inside when it rains, flies, long queue

Eraman @ KLIA2
Eraman Malaysia has revealed details of its hugely ambitious plans for the upcoming klia2 low-cost terminal. Eraman, the retail subsidiary of MAHB, will be the main concessionaire in Klia2, operating 22 outlets (or 28 lots out of 225) which cover a total of 7,210.61 sq m. The commercial space dedicated solely to retail and food & beverage in klia2 (landside and airside combined) spans 35,200sq m (this excludes space for administrative offices and other concessions).
Referring to klia2 as a “coming of age” for Eraman after 20 years of airport retailing, Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd General Manager Fawzy Ahmad said that frontliners will be referred to as ‘hosts’ and not staff, highlighting the level of customer service the terminal will offer.
All aspects of the terminal’s design, from building materials to lighting, right down to the cleaning soap used by the cleaners, are chosen to be as eco-friendly as possible. Claimed as the first airport in the world to receive Green Globe 21 (GG21) certification – the global Benchmarking, Certification and improvement system for sustainable travel and tourism – this is in line with KLIA’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to encourage activities that protect and preserve the earth.
We get a new KLIA terminal all thanks to the fat bangala ala uncle Tony AirAsia aims for 60-70 million passengers a year, from current 36 million

BROUGHTON: AirAsia Group, which is buying 100 more Airbus aircraft valued at US$9.4bil as it transforms into an Asian airline, sees the potential to achieve the target of between 60 million and 70 million passengers. AirAsia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the low-cost carrier was in a fantastic part of the world, especially in South-East Asia.
“Ten years ago, we had 200,000 passengers. This year, we are carrying 36 million. The potential to go to 60 million and 70 million passengers is within easy reach,” he said during a recent visit to Broughton in Britain where he signed a deal with Airbus to buy the aircraft from Airbus in the presence of British Prime Minister David Cameron.
“We want air travel to be affordable and make Asia a smaller place by making it accessible. We want to bring people to Asia where they never thought of going at fares they never thought would be there,” he said.
Fernandes said 50% of AirAsia's destinations are those which had not been served by airlines. It has been able to open new routes and destinations. “My ambition is that one day AirAsia will be as well-known as Coca-Cola that would be cool. That would be a massive task but if you don't have ambition, you won't get anywhere,” he said.
To recap, the 100 Airbus A320s consist of 36 with the current engine option and 64 with the new engine option. With the latest orders, the low-cost carrier has ordered 475 single-aisle aircraft from Airbus, comprising 264 A320 new engine options and 211 A320 current engine option.
The contract reaffirms AirAsia, Asia's largest low-cost carrier, as the world's largest A320 customer. Fernandes said aircraft demand was very strong, so AirAsia had to move forward its orders to cope with demand. “We had to fill in back orders for 2013, 2014 and 2016 when the new engine options come out,” he said.
He added that AirAsia group was looking at options of either buying or leasing, but his view was that it was better to buy the aircraft. By 2026, AirAsia would have received 475 aircraft and Fernandes does not think the 100 planes would be the last order.
“Many of our new aircraft will go to replace the first ones in 2005. By 2017, they will be about 12 years old. While it seems a huge order, I think we will be back in the market at some stage because the demand is large,” he said. Fernandes said size was important for a low-cost carrier and Airbus had a very strong working relationship with AirAsia's engineering team on how best to utilise the aircraft including having more seats.
On financing for the 100 aircraft and whether AirAsia would look into a rights issue, he said there would not be any need to look into any rights issues. “We will fund this by our cash and our debt. And our gearing level will remain the same. Our cash is really very strong at the moment. Four years ago, our gearing was at four times. Now our gearing is one time. For any airline growing such like us, that is unheard of,” he pointed out.
In the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2012, AirAsia Bhd had RM2.2bil in cash and bank balances with net gearing reduced to 1.03 times this quarter (net gearing was reported at 1.10 times in quarter two).
Fernandes said AirAsia was now in a position to reward shareholders with dividends after its “fantastic growth rate”. “We now have cash generating capability and these aircraft do not require any further shareholder s funding,” he said. Asked to comment that the share price recently hit fresh 52-week lows and trading a very low price-to-earnings, he said there was an overhang from news about Malindo Air starting operations in Malaysia. “People have over-reacted. All kinds of crazy thing have come out from there but we have been there before,” he said.
He said AirAsia had always grown margins with record profits and it was making headway into Indonesia where it is much smaller than Lion Air. “The (AirAsia) share price will go down and go up. As long as you keep delivering earnings, people will re-believe in us. It is frustrating for us. We hope they (Malindo Air) will launch quickly and get over and done with it,” he said.
Asked whether AirAsia Bhd's share price was recently suppressed by expectations that it could be excluded from the 30-stock FBM KLCI, he said he was unaware of it.
AirAsia Group's Datuk Kamarudin Meranun explained this would take effect on Dec 24, but “purely due to market capitalisation”. “It has nothing to do with performance,” said Kamarudin. AirAsia and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Bhd (MMHE) are likely to be replaced by Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd.
Asked if AirAsia was talking to fund managers that though the share price had recently declined, the fundamentals remained very strong, Fernandes said:
“We are buying our shares back. We believe in it and we are putting the money where our mouth is.”
“But proof is in the numbers. We are the most profitable airline in the world. No airline delivered 17% margins with oil price (jet fuel) at US$130.
i think the klia2 project is waste of money, look at spore, they have the busiest airport in the world and yet they didn't came up with a new airport, just upgrading the system to be more efficient oso can la.
They have starting tearing down their Budget Terminal which is less than 10 years old. It was way underutilised. Wouldn't that be more of a waste of money?
Hmn.. How you check the date of the picture ..Anyway, from your latest photo..still far away from the dateline May 2013 ..And the best ERL already advertised the May 2013 since last year

for LCCT just hate to walk so far for boarding...especially noon hours. the rest still acceptable, even though it look like factory warehouse with air conditional.

MAHB Confirms Delay In klia2 Opening
May 09, 2013 17:51 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has confirmed the delay in the opening of the new low-cost air terminal, klia2, scheduled for June 28, after taking into account several key quality and safety issues.
MAHB is expected to convene a special meeting with all stakeholders soon, to explain the delay in the construction of the RM4 billion airline hub.
"We will be meeting all concerned before announcing a revised opening date. The stakeholders are among others, the contractors, airlines, retail tenants and government agencies," MAHB Chief Financial Officer, Faizal Mansor told Bernama.
He said MAHB does not want to rush the klia2 contractors, which could jeopardise the quality and safety of the airport.
"We want to ensure things are done right to avoid any glitches on the opening day," he added.
Faizal, however, declined to reveal any timeline, as to when the klia2 would be launched, or the duration of the delay.
The June 28 launch date target was mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to coincide with the date of the opening of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in 1998.
With some 10 airlines committed to operate from it, the klia2 is built to cater for the explosive growth expected in low-cost travel, while envisaged to also handle a maximum of 45 million passengers per annum.
It will have 60 gates, eight remote stands and 80 aerobridges, plus a 32,000 square metre retail space with 225 outlets.
Meanwhile, RHB Research analyst, Ahmad Maghfur Usman said the delay can go on for as long as six-months, with the airport at present just under 90 per cent complete.
He said the airport apron, a vital component of an airport, is also not ready.
"Even if the new terminal can be completed by September after a two-month delay, MAHB would still need to carry out operational trial runs, that may require at least four months," he added.
Despite the delay in the klia2's opening, Ahmad Maghfur said it is unlikely that MAHB will experience cost overruns, since it is not due to variations in the terminal's design, while contractual terms are fixed.
how come ?got many new taman perumahan in sepang this year.tumbuh like cendawan lepas hujan..small single story house oredi they put price RM2XX XXX wtf...
if KLIA2 complete,i dunno how high the price can rise
dont need stay so near airpot lor.. near putra heights can ma..
Outside is ugly. KLIA did set the standard. This one maju ke belakang
I would say in terms of passenger experience (interior, shops etc), this could be better than KLIA main terminal as this terminal had been designed with retail aspect (shopping centre building plus more shops in the terminal itself) in mind
Unlike KLIA main terminal, passenger can access to taxi, bus and ERL train all at same spot.
MAHB better maintain the exterior panels of KLIA2 in timely manner, as the white colour of the panel needs constant maintenance and cleaning so that green stuff (algae) for example won't grow.
the weakness of LCCT is, i need to take a RM100 taxi to bridge a RM50 flight
With the ability to use the ERL, even if the flight become RM60, the train will only be RM15. a good positive. now if only our airports can complete within budget... and within its deadline?
The fare for KLIA2 to KL Sentral train will be set at RM 35.
AIRASIA will use this airport? coz they dont wanna use the aerobridge rite? so, they will use this airport n park at the apron, let us walk to the plane?

AirAsia will use it, but analysts think not from the early stage of KLIA 2 though.
