Not entirely. The mark 2 has Sony's smart hotshoe mount which can be used as a mic input.

oh I have shotgun mic already, no mic input a bit cacat.

but getting RX100 III / IV makes a lot better sense than getting a high-end smartphone, though smartphone you can use mic directly.

It's like how Canon cripples their DSLR line to entice ppl to get into their cinema line, RX series still need a certain hold back so that it doesn't gobble up their own market share.

Oh I love the RX10, even when it announced (first gen) I was keen on it while everyone seem to talk about the other models. LOL.

I like it for all in one with super long zoom zeiss lens, albeit a little slow on zooming in and out.

Why RX100 over RX10 is because I'm looking for something compact, one that I can put on a gimbal (OK la RX 10 also can) and even in pocket / small bags.

RX10 is like DSLR size already.

Still going strong with my RX100 mk 1 till now bt every new release is very exciting too see the new technology fit into this tiny high end compact cam, will wait for the upcoming RX100 series as Mk3,4 and 5 has maintain similarity jst hardware greatly accelerated, I wish and hpe d nxt RX is a new innovations . Should be around corner....
