I afraid I will abandoned it like my Nex... Decision, decision, decision...

actually, the xz1 has already made me slow down on the nex... till i just sold it off..

altho these digital cameras cant be compared to the 35mm film compacts like the rollie with collapsible lens,
cause the difference in sensor sizes ie aps-c, 1/1.7, m4/3, etc,
but the charm of having something small (altho less capable) has a very large pool of fans.
lots of lost opportunities as compared to the nex in low light without flash,
but it makes up for being very handy and being around more often than a larger camera.

and the best camera to take that pict, any pict, is a camera at hand.. ie phone cam!!!

yes.. very "Different market segment"..
firstly, the weight and size.
of course the dslr has lots more functionality to them but its a really obtrusive instrument...
going to a social dinner party (jackets required) with a big bag and cam can be taxing on one's social standing...
or even a nightclub where u need to constantly keep an eye out for the cam/bag..
even the nex is considered big with its 18-55 lens.
but the new 16-50 is interesting with the nex6...
just sold off my nex5 with the 18-55 but keeping the pancake and the uwa and fisheye adapters and waiting for the nex6 to come on over..

i now just use the oly xz1 and am quite happy with the size cept the low light/ no flash capabilities...

having said that, the dslr will always have its place that can never be dethroned simply by its capabilities.
its just having the correct tool for the job...

these are my thoughts/opinion and mine alone.

The serious P&S also seriously affected. The only one now that still showing growth are the mirrorless and DSLR.

I do concede that the Sony rx100 is expensive.
Must wait till the 1 inch sensor become more main stream for the price to drop.
But it's a great step in the right direction For better image N low light quality in a compact.
Let's not compare it to a leica La.... That is beyond reach of an average Joe...
Not an excuse, but last I heard, these companies are in it to make a profit, as much of it as possible... At our expense of course la.. Heh..

i have both the rx 100 the nex6,
both are quite good cameras, in fact very good cameras,
but each has their own strength

the rx 100 it's a good camera for starters with your manual controls that can let a newbie learn about aperture, shutter speed, iso and myriad of control setup that are accessible manually,

the nex 6 that i have on the nex system, while it is true that if you do not plan to change lenses then but in the future when you do plan to go deeper into photography, or you may want to use legacy lenses like: pentax, minolta, zeiss, nikon, etc, then nex system is more future proof then the rx 100.
lets not even get to filters, polarizers, etc, that the nex is capable of...

i had the nex5 as a newbie, the original 5 with about 7 lenses not including the kit lens 16, ultra wide, fisheye, 1855, but i sold the nex because i do not have the time then to go shooting…

then i got a xz1 cos of size... as i carried the cam into construction sites... another good camera..

now time i've got a bit more time and have itchy hands i got the nex 6 cos of the other lenses lying in the dry box.

1 thing i found about the nex system is that in bright light of the sun, the screen was very difficult to see that was why i got the next 6 with evf

u will get that problem with the rx100 too... like any smartfone..

but then again you could start off with the rx100 and then if you find that you like photography then you could upgrade to a much better system later on when upgrading later on there will always b better releases next year.

hope this helps…

other than that, the rx100 can do almost all the stuff that the nex can...
and its small...

proverb, the best cam for the job is the cam in hand...

which is most likely ur handphone cam... lol
