I just received the grip attachment from Shashinki. The quality is really good and improved the handling of the camera.

It's seems very good. I think it was the first to fit it in a body as small as a conventional compact. It's able to offer impressive image quality in a genuinely pocketable body.

I have a question about RX100's battery (NP-BX1) & charger (AC-UD10). I'm wondering whether I can use Sony CP-EL powerbank to charge NP-BX1?

Battery - NP-BX1: 3.6V - 4.5Wh, 1240mAh
AC Charger - AC-UD10 : OUTPUT 5V - 1500mA
Sony powerbank CP-EL (Li-on battery: 3.6V - 2000mAh): INPUT 5V - 0.5A, OUTPUT 5V - 1A 5Wh

I've 2 questions:

1. Since the power bank output is only 1A (or 1000mA), doesn't match the 1500mA of the AC Charger. Will the powerbank damage the battery?

2. When I plug in the USB cable to RX100 to transfer photo, I found that the ON switch lights up orange color, which indicate charging in progress. If I'm not mistaken, normal USB 2.0 supplies 500mA only. If forgot to bring charger, it is okay to just plug it in the USB to charge?

No problem at all. Don't worry. It's ok. It won't spoils your battery easily. Cause got build in overload power cut filter inside battery. Small ampere more charging time. High ampere fast changing time.

Thanks for your reassurance. I tested to charge the camera with the powerbank and it works. If I switch on RX100 when charging, i don't see the battery icon on the LCD screen and the yellow light on the "ON" dial disappears. I guess the camera is running directly from the power of the powerbank.

Surprisingly, the 500mA power from a PC USB2.0 port is just enough for charging but not enough to 'power up' the camera. I don't have any 500mA output powerbank to test. Some RX100M2 users posted in the forum that the AC adapter has been changed to "500mA" type. I'm curious whether the slow charging is able to slightly boost up CIPA 330 shots rating of RX100 to 350 shots rating of RX100M2, or because the back-illuminated sensor is slightly more energy efficient. Another guess is that RX100M2's charging time using the 500mA type adapter will be much longer.

Now, some photo time (resize to 50%)......jpg, 28mm, ISO6400, 1/10s, 1.8, handheld (brace my elbows against the sides & with the help of tighten neckstrap for extra stability)

Please don't judge my composition etc etc, Just want to practice my handheld skill (with neckstrap) because I was used to holding a dslr. RX100 sometimes gives me slightly blurry image at 1/30 if I am not careful/ steady. I find that Panasonic LX series has much greater optical stabilization.

Glad to find that RX100 can focus pretty easily at low light and it is possible to get non-blurry handheld shot if careful. the 6400 iso shot is almost free from chroma noise, the luminance noise grain is small and fine, even better than my Canon 550D's 6400 shot (chroma noise quite intrusive), if I remember correctly. In low light, I think RX100 wide open can beat my 550D with kit lens, and quite on par with it when zoom in.

it would be nice if they give a flat piece in same material to stick on the other side of the lens:-)

Using high iso when the light is not too low, the picture will show less noise.
The 12800 iso picture is taken at shutter speed 1/80, aperture f/8, 10.4mm focal length (28mm if 35mm equivalent)

If I don't mind about shallower depth of field, I could have chosen
1/80s, f/4, iso 3200, or
1/80s, f/2.8, iso 1600 or
1/40s, f/2.8, iso 800 (1/40s should be okay to handhold for 28mm focal length)
1/40s, f/2.0, iso 400

Basically that static scene can be taken at iso 400, not really that dark. If the light is genuinely low, then we can see the true power of high ISO. That's my understanding, I stand corrected.

RX100 ergonomics & handling definitely lose to T2i (or any dslr) because there is no dedicated button for iso, aperture, shutter speed (but can map these buttons to front dial, rear dial or Fn button). No viewfinder, hot shoe. Not having a hotshoe is not a problem for me because I seldom use the hotshoe on my T2i. You can buy RX100M2 with hotshoe, the hotshoe can attach external viewfinder.

Flash is not quite powerful, but enough for subject not so far, also enough as fill flash. The flash can be tilted to point the ceiling like a bounce flash.

RX100 strength to me as a T2i owner is that it is super small & light. It is only half the weight/ half the size of T2i without any lens attached. It's image quality is on par with T2i with kit lens if you don't pixel peep all the time. I feel that RX100 dynamic range is better than T2i. If you shoot video, RX100 video quality is miles better than T2i - can autofocus, very minimal noise when auto-focusing, sharper, better dynamic range. When it comes to night time (low light), that's when RX100 shines, especially if you shoot wide open at f/1.8.

Of course RX100 has many weaknesses also compared to T2i. Image stabilization is very bad because I can't hold it on my eye level to keep it stable. There is no minimum shutter speed setting, the automatic 1/30s can sometimes cause slightly blurry image. No auto-ISO in Manual mode.

Thanks for your comparison notworthy.gif

You mean there is no manual shutter speed setting? Is there any alternative to RX100 in market? hmm.gif
