hu hu... that's quite a lot to read. to give me a quick conclusion, can i say that even if i get a pair of 1600MHz 9-9-9-24, it won't gain much compared with my current sticks (1600, 11-11-F3; and 1333, CL9-9-9-24)? Also need to stress that I don't OC, and am not a gamer.

LOL biggrin.gif

Well what it means is that CL always go higher as the speed increases from DDR to DDR2 to DDR3. It means that any gains in speed is effectively 'neutralized' as CL increases. For example, DD2-667 CL4 and DDR3-1333 CL8 produces the same amount of performance. Interesting right? Then why the fuss about going DDR3? The answer is bus speed increases. CPU buses are increasing year after year. DDR2 can only go so fast, it needs to go higher. (Read DDR2 vs DDR3)

Therefore it is always a goal to keep CL as low as possible so that gains in memory speed is meaningful. Such is the case of Corsair Vengeance series and the likes, offering DDR3 1600MHz at CL9. JEDEC references DDR3 at CL11 if not mistaken so normal consumer RAM sticks will be there while performance brands will try to make chips operate at lower CL. Thats why the price is higher (lesser supply).

If you would look at the benchmarks, the difference ain't much. Especially now we're at Ivy Bridge (3rd generation Intel Core) where the memory controller is on the CPU package. Also we have GPU subsystem with its own independent GDDR5. Therefore it would be safe to assume that general performance aren't affected much.

Don't get me wrong. A performance RAM does provide increases in performance. The question is how much and whether that increase is where it matters most. 1-2fps increase? Few % increases in benchmark scores? What I do know performance RAM is good is where overclocking is concern. drool.gif

Does anyone know if the Y480/580 can be overclocked and settings tweaked?

Yeah its strange that there are so many Wi-Fi chips being qualified by Lenovo. So far we heard of Intel, Broadcom and Atheros. I know Broadcom Wi-Fi chips are desirable (beam forming biggrin.gif) but can't tell which chip model is being used.

use cpu-z to check your RAM timings at diff speed .
for each single ram has their own timings at certain speed
e.g.
1600Mhz 9-9-9-24
1333Mhz x-x-x-x
1000Mhz x-x-x-x

Just make sure the timings is same at that speed for both piece of ram if u want your system to be stable

oooo....coz u mention the INSTALLATION ma....hehehe
ok...easy as 1 2 3
1st. use ur HDD and create 4 recovery DVDs (choose factory default)
2nd. change HDD to SSD like the previous 20 Steps
3rd. change from BIOS boot from DVD
4th. restore back

I can't guarantee 100% work....
but mine had partition cloned and customize the size before....so, mine worked..

Yup its good. I usually like Belkin products, they are affordable and value for money. It has a lot of storage pockets and offers good protection. But if you have a lot to store, then you need something larger. For my case, I went for the Targus Ecosmart series (a little expensive though) because I need a storage area for files and stuff.

Also make sure the voltage is correct. 1.5V. Some RAM gain lower CL but with over-voltage. But don't worry about those Corsair Vengeance, they are 1.5V biggrin.gif

hey, i have installed cpu-z, when run for the first few timesbut it got stuck at the gpu stage, never finish, and hogging the CPU at 14% load, causing my cpu temp to shoot to 64++.

I run again, this this it does finish loading and show the main page, but at the Memory tab, it can just show Size = 8096 MB, the rest all greyed out, and the SPD page all greyed out. - what's the problem?

U may want to test each ram individually cos u are mixing ram with diff speed. Try take out one ram 1st and run again

Mine is Hyundai at 1.5V. So it appears that we should be hunting for 1.35V ones from Samsung? Better power consumption drool.gif

I agree with the forum. I upgraded from 2x2GB modules to 2x4GB modules for my Macbook Pro last time. Immediately see reduction in battery life. At least 30-45minutes shaved!
