hi all, would like to know from any owner of Y480:

1. Does your gear having any overheat problem? can you post temperature data showing temperatures at idle, and full load?
especially interested to know if Asus N56 runs cooler than lenovo or not.

2. I read from here and cari.com that some owners of Lenovo modify their gear by taking out the dvd drive and place the hdd there with a caddy, and put an ssd in the original hdd slot. reportedly this lowers temp by 10c. - would this violate the warranty?

3. can we do step 2, by just moving the hdd to the optical drive bay but not putting any ssd (leave the hdd slot empty)?

{
actually i have asked this in another thread, but place here too hope to get more answers...
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry53686897

seems to have a bit too many Y480 threads...

hmm i read from the china site

http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2241468-4-1.html

that Lenovo has taken out the HDD activity indicating light, just because of some western designer's taste, getting quite a lot of complaint from the Chinese users...

can owners of 480 and 580 confirm this?

1. From the internal layout, i would say lenovo have the edge in cooling
*
from design maybe, but in actual world, lots of ppl complain abt this, iincluding the China users where Lenovo is based. that's why many owner modify them by moving their hdd to the dvd drive bay. so far haven't heard similar cases on the asus n56.

would like to hear more from owners...

haha, that's interesting... hope to see some comparison temperature tests between the two, if the results shows the same, it will clear Lenovo's name a lot :-)

Oh thanks, maybe i have to use google translator haha.

The design is only flawed for the hdd but if talking about gpu and processor, its good enough i think. Unless you  crave dual fan cooling  biggrin.gif

haha sorry for giving u a chinese page... but quite informative, those guys are crazy and brave...

thx for the answer....

just a side note, currently there are a few active threads on Leno Y480/Y580, a bit distracting as some of us might have to post the same questions repeatedly on all of them...

why don't someone start an owners' club, let everyone concentrate on it so no one will miss out any related post?

use SSD la it'll solve the HDD temp issue
it's not wise to put HDD in the middle
the temperature are just too high
*
hi, i know heat will harm the HDD, but if we put an SSD there, wont the heat harm the SSD too?

*
RM 3400 - 3500 would be fair price.

if you live in klang valley, can try this guy:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2431528

this is just 1 of them, there are at least a dozen of them listing their post in Trade Zone -> Garage Sales -> Notebooks & Tablets.

Happy hunting, and report back to us your deal.
