The implication of excess doctors as well as the withdrawal of jpa overseas scholarships have finally hit home.... waiting time for housemanship appointment now average 6 to 9 months, and from 2nd half this year, completing housemans are no more guaranteed mo jobs....
Driving uber may be really a viable option.... |

medical aspirants maybe.
but those who are undertaking medical studies/about to enter are not. it's just that most of them are still not aware of the current glut. nowadays you can really throw a stone anywhere, and believe me, it will hit a medical student. |

That GH where my relative is posted to still has a shortage of housemen nothwithstanding a fairly big intake recently. Some are privileged to do very little while others are push to the limits.
Good experience though. Daily key words include Stupid, Idiots, No Brain, Never think, What did you study coming from Specialists and MOs during daily presentations. |

This is the elder one who has completed and serving as houseman now. Giving him encouragement to get use to the system. |

Dr Hilmi said the government planned to make it procedure that only women doctors can deliver babies in hospitals. "The government does have ample women doctors but not many women doctors are interested in this field. "We have to wait for more doctors that are trained in this field," he said after handing out hampers and duit raya to 50 patients at the Balik Pulau Hospital. Reading between the lines, I believe cckkpr's 'relatives' graduated from Monash Malaysia under some kind of scholarship and bonded, and another is in UK on private funding....
Fact: one in seven houseman are incompetent, one in 5 gets at least one retention of posting....many graduates are from the era before the minimum entry qualification was introduced and had spm result below the very lax minimum of 5bs....some with c and d in their spm sciences .... Well....in the light of these facts, how do you propose to sieve through and pick up the weak ones?.....and what do you do with them?... In most countries, they will also have dud graduates, but since few, they assume everybody is competent and then work on the few non performers..... When you have figures reaching 20% problem doctors, there is only one safe way..... Assume ALL are incompetent or problematic or 'not coping' .....and then let the obvious competent and hardworking ones carry the burden of work.... Which is why most units insist new houseman tag calls for long periods and stress them from the word go by making these tags long hrs and treat them like cockroaches..... The good ones rapidly become obvious, and yes, the poor sods will carry the burden of work....the bad ones can goyang kaki... if anyone has any better idea how to deal with this problem, i am sure everybody will be keen to listen... I was expecting many housemen fighting for patients as I got the impression that there are excess of housemen. But that's is not the situation.
But some are given warning letters for being not around and cannot be located. On another note, last year and this year there were more graduates offered internship in Oz than previously including quite a number of JPA scholars. Whether they are going to pay back or not, that has to be seen. Some are going there for 1 or 2 years and then coming back to serve JPA, as being told. And the feedback from Scotland is that most of the JPA scholars from IMU are staying put. But someone pointed out that UK may require JPA scholars to show some kind of a "conditional release" letter before being offered foundation years. Dont know whether this is true. |

why fight to work, when you are paid the same as the one who slogs away?...especially since "working" will show up your ignorances and deficiencies, and attract scolding?....
jpa scholars have a moral responsibility to return to serve, after receiving so much funding from tax payers...and jpa should not be releasing them just because of placement issues locally... unfortunately, at this point, there is no prioritisation for scholars, so they will also have to queue up... |

the good thing is whether you are the top graduate from UM or just an average graduate from PMC Ipoh, you will be screwed irrespective of where you come from if you deserve it.
But one need to fit into the "system" fast and just go along with it whether its fair or not. Its a 10 years thing....... |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Jun 29 2016, 03:21 PM) Yes.Some are ok and this includes those of Indon and Russia. Maybe, they relearn fast and quest for knowledge. As Dr. Punna Wong of Monash JB said " The worst graduate of the top medical school will be far worst than the best graduate of a number 300th ranked medical school simply because it’s 90% individual effort." |

pmc is penang medical college, in penang...what you are referring to is the rcmp, or the royal college of medicine of perak, that body which started as a joint venture with sheffield, which failed and MoHE forced UM to absorb their students...and they now use unikl to awards degrees, since they have no licence to award...

No, not yet....
Everybody will still get a job for 1 to 2 years as houseman... although the waiting now averages 9 months.... However, it will be as temporary staff....(not contract, as thought by some)....and on completion of ho, needs to get employment as permanent staff.... As of now, there are not enough positions to absorb all completing ho....so possible solution is for some to continue as temporary staff.... But the possibility that some doctors who don't perform well may not get to continue with Moh will become reality in maybe 2 years time... Then yes, unemployment....we used to joke unemployed doctors can become taxi drivers...it has become true...can be uber drivers.... |
