Hey guys, anyone here did any part time jobs while waiting for their housemanship? If so, what kind of job?
I just graduated and I can't afford to sit at home for months before my first posting!

Afaik, best part time job is self-employment Part time jobs outside usually only pays about RM5-7/hour unless you're looking at very short term employment (2-3 days event that can pay ...like a promoter.. about RM100/day). Lots of fast food places are paying more for raya break (RM10/hour). Sell something, build something, teach tuition, drive for Uber. I'm not aware of much medical based opportunities in Malaysia unless you can find some short term clinical research jobs (sometimes just to key in data and take vitals).

If your passion for doing medic is to help people, then do some volunteer work at nursing centres or aged homes etc.

I meant that I need some side income before starting my HO as I don't wanna ask money from my parents. How is volunteering or be passionate gonna help or are they even related? Thanks for your input anyway. QUOTE(Syd G @ Jul 14 2015, 10:59 AM) All the best in your new job Thanks.

I think you could do a google of clinics in the area you're living in? and see if you could work for a doctor? I am sure there will be doctors around who would love to have a fresh grad under their wings. you have to think out of the box. sometimes only you can find a solution if you think long and hard enough. doing any sort of work unrelated to medicine is ok but I would not recommend it. good luck. It is against the law to work as a doctor without being registered with the MMC.... It is also an offence for a provisionally registered doctor ie houseman, to work in locations outside where they are doing their housemanship, eg doing locum in private clinics....

About 5 years ago, when the issue of surplus of doctors first surfaced, as predicted based on the number of new med schools, I said, somewhat in jest, that the days of unemployed doctors driving taxis will come....
It may have arrived....someone above suggested driving for uber....

Nowhere did I suggest that he works as a doctor performing diagnosis or prognosis, prescribing medication and so on. Can't he not shadow a doctor? Going for lunch with the doctor, observe how a doctor speaks to a patient to find out root of the reason for his visit, learn how to do proper filing and documenting of patient's medical history, learn the importance by observing how checking and double checking of whether the correct medicine and proper dosage is dispensed and so on. Is all this also not allowed? what is the starting salary of doctors in MY?

For comparison, an accounting graduate gets about RM3,200 (big firms) and first class graduates about 10% more.

You can always work as a product physician at pharmaceutical companies.. i've seen a few doctors who did not even go through housemenship and started work at the company.. if you went through the public uni system and did not spend RM1,000,000 for the degree then it's not a bad option as well if money and comfort of an office job is what you prefer.

I was shocked when ex-PM Mahatir said on youtube recently that he earned RM2000 as a doctor.
