Fuel consumption = angle of throttle body. U full throttle then shift at 2000rpm, do the same for all 5 gears, your petrol consumption is as "GOOD" as a ford mustang GT500. Too long story to explain the scientific stuff.
*
it's all about ur right foot? right? gently or manly
if u based on vacuum meter.
but high rpm = full throttle (*usually)

a lot of factors contributing to FC, not only on foot nor high rpm. It depends on the road condition, road gradient, road traffic, humidity, air density, air temperature, engine displacement, type of engine oil used, engine condition, tires (type, width, diameter), tires condition, COD (co-efficient of drag), vehicle weight and total volume in the cabin (weight of occupant/cargo). All these plays a role too in addition to "right foot" and rpm.

The original question was downhill engine braking = high RPM =high FC?

Now suddenly become complicated liao.

during engine braking, the ECU actually cut off fuel supply to the engine and the engine is running on lean mode.
*
True for manual for sure. Because while coasting downhill in gear without stepping on any pedals, if I step on the accelerator I can feel the engine come back to life (start running on its own again). I turn to my friends then and tell them I'm using zero fuel at the moment rclxms.gif That's why I always hantam those people who tell me they coast downhill in neutral doh.gif (unless their car has carburettor)

What about CVT and 4 speed auto?

same

foot off throttle, TCU senses a downhill slope downshift to the most appropriate lowest gear (4AT) or TCU shrink the ratio (CVT), ECU cuts fuel to the engine, engine in lean mode. Can only hear engine humming, but actually exhaust has no sound (since no fuel or little fuel = no or little combustion)

In that case, the exhaust will be emitting clean air, right? Since there's no combustion, the engine is just sucking in air and pumping it out again through the exhaust.

Wait, the throttle is almost closed completely while coasting. So not very much air really.

Still very new lah. Wait until 10,000 km for it to stabilise. The usual tricks apply, light right foot, coast downhill, avoid traffic jams, don't drive short distances, correct tyre pressure (I personally overinflate slightly), etc. All mentioned above by V12.

indeed. thats why the exhaust is silent (if pasang exhaust PRANG PRAAAANG) when going downhill.

the difference wont be significant. You'll have to wait for the 2nd and 3rd service then you'll get to see the difference after each service.
