The first 5 pages of this thread should give you most of the tips yous seek.

As to blue shirt, I dont think it will change anything. People look at your personal grooming not the colour. If you want to go into the science of colour, then it would be the colour that make you strike out the most. If you want a short cut way to this science, ask your sister (if she know how to make up) or your mum.

Hahaha advertising/ event firm? I think very soon you'll start wearing t-shirt and jeans to work when you gotta help out/ cover for events.

Anyway it doesn't matter what sort of colour your shirt is, as long as it's a formal shirt for your interview (for impression sake). You don't need a blazer/ coat, it's too much if you put it on. If you feel comfortable/ wish to be safe, just bring it along with you but don't put it on unless you're telling me everyone over there is wearing a blazer/ coat.

You mean interviewer? If they ask about your weakness, tell them it's lack of experience in the field, you lack some proficiency in xx but (should cover up with something good) you are working/ improving yourself in all aspect of bla bla bla. I think elementarily for internship interview, it should do the trick.

What other normal stuffs? Basically they'll probably check about your current course/ degree/ diploma. Eg. your assignments (how well you did?), projects, interest in your current subject (I'm guessing you're doing Mass Comm/ Design), why you choose their company/ firm, what sort of things you're looking for in terms when you graduate etc etc. Think of what to answer them, we can't help you with this.

Yeah your certs + resume in photocopy; and bring along original copies for their reference/ cross check. Be aware of your interviewer's body language... if you're answering something and he/she shows lack of interest, you might want to cut your answer short or rephrase it. Show good mannerism and respect (even if you find something annoying about the interviewer) and you probably want to send him/ her a thank you note after the interview.

Just how many times you have asked your friends who are in the senior position about their candidates after the interview sessions? You have heard it. They were awful, unprepared, dont show much interest, not serious and yaaa daaa yaaa daa. Do you want to become like those losers who will never make it? cry.gif

There are just 5 things that you need to do to make a lasting impression in your job interviews. It's such simple steps that people dont take it seriously which could make a huge difference between an average Joe and you.

Before I begin, you must know that you are now a seller. You are selling yourself and that you are there to present yourself to the potential buyer, the company that could potentially hire you. You cant go there unprepared. You have only one chance to impress, so go for the kill.

Preparations before the interview

1) Resume - Dont just draft out a piece of garbage that nobody wants to read. Fill in with testimonials. The resume itself needs to be interactive. People normally like to read things like "I worked with Tom, Damien and Harry for 3 years now and I find him very capable of doing his job. He was the best performance employee for straight 3 months between April to June" Marilyn Lee - Vice President, AIA (the higher the position of the person giving you the testimonial. the better). With this, you stand a better chance to be called upon for interview.

2) Study the company's operation and business - This is something most Malaysians dont do. They just blindly apply through Jobstreet and normally forgot what they applied. Dont make the same mistake. In my line, I have interviewed so many people and almost 75% are in this category. If you want the job, have the courtesy to show interest. You must study the background of the company to see where you can fit in and what kind of contribution you can make to the company. By not knowing jackshit about them, you can never plan your presentation.

3) What kind of qualities/expertise that you have to fit into the company's plan? ie: Good disciplinary record for the past 3 years, have good contacts with medias such as The Star, NST, Berita Harian, etc etc (This must be personalised to each of every company. That is why you need to study the company's business and operations)

4) Draft out 5 plans on how you can contribute to the company in the position that you wish to apply. ie: 1) I intend to improve the social media presence of the company, 2) I want to study the business process and improve the efficiency of workforce, yaaa daaa yaa daa (Again, this is personalised and depending on the job that you are applying.)

5) Finally - Draft out 3 reasons why you intend to stay long with the company. ie: 1) I have heard of the company's great reputation and I will be ecstatic and honored to be part of the team , etc etc (This will give the company a great assurance that they are not hiring a dummy who doesnt do his homework and wishing for the best to happen when he join in.)

So there you go. If you still cant get a job with this easy reference, only God can help you. tongue.gif

That is why statistical proof and testimonials are very important. If you are endorsed by top people and have work references, your interview will be impressive.

A company called me for interview and asked me to disclose "3 years performance evaluation reports".

Is it reasonable and ethical to do so? I thought performance evaluation reports are current company confidential.

Need advices on this matter. Thank you.

Tell them you dont have it. It is with HR. If they asked for your consent to get it from your HR tell them "NO". Tell them even you cant see it why should your give them access to it.

I went for the interview last week, and i got this opportunity via the headhunter. If i would like to know the status, should i ask the headhunter or the interviewer himself. He gave me his card during the interview.

By right, the headhunter should call you for updates such as how was the session and were you being hired etc.

Just to share my experience. I had an interview for my internship today. Previously I called up the manager asking about the date for the interview. He then told me that I should come to the office first to observe the environment of the working place before deciding to do my internship there. It turned out that the manager decides to do the interview today as I was supposed to only come and view the workplace.

Luckily i came prepared. Full formal attire and my copies of CV. The interviewer gave a positive feedback and I was very happy to be experiencing my very first interview. Always be prepared whenever you're visiting the workplace.

By the way have anyone been to Sarah Hughes @ GLOBE in Jalan TAR? I just need some information and other's experience of working there.

just out of curiosity, is it ok to ask WHY if the company says that the role doesn't fit you without giving any reason?

Why not?

In an interview, both parties can ask questions.

You should. By knowing the reason why, you'll be able to find out what went "wrong" in the first place.
