Hey guys, just wanted some feedback, might sound like a stupid question.

Is it appropriate to wear chinos for an interview? I have an interview this Monday, and have no proper formal pants. My current job does not need me to wear slacks, so i have not purchased any new ones. My old ones are wayyyy to big to be worn at the moment

Thank you!

Help me guys, I'm going to an interview this monday and i'm not so sure about what to bring and what to do.
I know the basic things like dress code, how to sit, what not to talk, etc2..

So here's the thing, I'm going to an interview for a private computer/IT/mobile apps/design-ish company and this company is the kind of company that practice casual environment (you know, no suits and ties kind of things). Oh and this is only interview for internship.

1) So, should I wear shirts, ties and khakis kind of dress or shirts and jeans better?
2) Is it neccessary to bring laptop to show all my works (designing skill, programming, all those computer stuff) or USB with all the works in it is enough?
3) Should I be funny and cool or smart and serious?
4) What else do they expect for internship student?
5) Sijil is important? I go to many competition but they dun't give sijil. How?

What to ask the interviewer in Q&A session ?

1. Salary ? Most response is a big no no. But can I ask, how often is the salary increment ?

2. What the interviewer think about the company ?

1. Probably not directly. Perhaps ask about their remuneration and rewards philosophy, then from there only probe further. The usual increment is once a year for most major companies anyway.

2. Not bad. Ask about their experience with the organisation and what attracted them to join this company.

3. Ask about the culture. Most people underestimate this factor, but it is a big one when you can't fit in because it is a wrong culture.

Most interviews would require you to give them a brief explanation about your past experiences in extra curricular activities and this is a great opportunity for you to shine with your previous involvement. Some of the very standard questions would be, "[cool.gifExplain a situation where you were in a tight spot" or "Explain a situation where you showed leadership skills". The answers to these questions should always be ready in your mind and by giving out a detailed account of your experiences, it would greatly help you to show your leadership skills as well as give a good impression to the interview as you had prepared for this interview. Hello, can i ask something, i'm still studying, curricular activities certificates important or not during interview?
I mean, do i need to involve in clubs and societies in order to give good impression to future employer that I'm "Active" during university life? smile.gif

Honestly, some companies look at those qualities and some don't. If you were to include the extra curricular activities, it would be best to include those where you held significant positions, to showcase either your event management skills or leadership skills.

It's not important, but it showcase who you are as a person. A President of say, Lions Club means you have the potential capability to influence and lead a team. A member of the Debate Club might say you are someone who can articulate and critique well, etc etc..

We usually wouldn't ask you directly questions about it but having these things in your resume, especially one that is not that impressive yet so early in your career life, can help elevate you above others.

MNCs look for these qualities, especially those looking for Management Trainees. Smaller companies OR a very technical related field might not, because they are looking to develop individual skills rather than a leader.

It is also good to have it, as you can use it to relate to some examples you want to slot in when being asked a situational question (which is becoming very popular), i.e. "can you tell me a time where you faced a major hurdle in a project and how did you overcome it?", being able to use these curricular activities is great because it mirrors somewhat the working field.

You will also find it is very useful in scholarship applications in the near future so if you are active now, keep it up smile.gif

Just went down the thread and sudden;y feels like dropping a thought here. smile.gif

I am a graduates of Degree in Medical Sciences field. However, I have difficulties in coping in hospitals related areas so i put my hands up and went to interveiws n administration/ banking/ customer service related areas.

As I expected, they often asked me why did I turned out from my line and went to another field.

They won't asked you about your curricular activities. No so far. But it is your own initiative to highlight them related to what position that you applying to and the subjects that you might have some relation to it and tell them how good you are. I have went up to 25 interviews so far and 8 of them have called me to report duty. biggrin.gif

Its really on how you could put your words and the way yo expressing them.. Make them believe that you ARE really the ONE. Heheh

Hi guys, I've got an interview with Sarawak Energy coming up.

Could anyone who has had an interview with them share their experience? What is the format of the interview - Q&A or Presentation or Written test? HR personnel was reluctant to share any info.

Thanks lots.
