I wish the hiring process in Msia would be more professional. Countless interviews went through with promises of 'We'll get back to you' only to hear nothing from them at all. Not even an email. And these are with MNC companies. Pfsh. Some people like me prefer closure *cough*

Ah well onwards and upwards!

Try a follow up with them. I got my first job simply because I was the only candidate that followed up and that showed initiative (according to the hiring manager) which made me stood out from the other candidates as profile wise, it was pretty neck to neck.

Does being overdressed for an interview send any wrong messages? Had an interview on the company's casual day (I didn't know it was such beforehand), HR director was in polo shirt, I had on jacket and tie :/
*
Nope, it doesn't. Being overdressed is better than being underdressed.

Gives the correct message that you are being respectful towards your interviewee.

Good luck at the job smile.gif

Owh. man.. normally how long should we wait after the interview & to follow up? if the employer said want to reply to me in 2 weeks.. now it has been 3 weeks.. so how? follow up via email or via phone call?

If it's already a week overdue, just follow up with them. Any method is fine, there is no hard and fast rule here. I'm usually a bit 'lansi' and just politely thank them for the opportunity and mention that I understand they are busy but would appreciate a response if or if not I am selected as I need to give an answer to other potential employer as well.

Hi all,

I am a freshie and I need advice on how to politely turn down an offer.
(Weird, I know considering most people wanted to get an offer in this thread.)

Scenario is like this, I just finished an interview with a local MNC and the GM as well as the HR are impressed and would like to invite me for 2nd round interview this/next week to discuss salary/benefits whatsoever to finish the deal.

After the interview, I was invited to a telephone interview with a company in Europe and if things go well I would be going to Europe for 2nd round interview.

I'm more inclined to wait for the Europe company interview (even if I might not get it biggrin.gif ) as it is more of a position which I would like to do.

So how do I politely turn down the local MNC? Because I will be expecting a call/email and I don't want to look like someone who took them around circles and get black-listed (Don't want to be burning bridges now biggrin.gif ).

Thanks.

State your reason with a formal e-mail. Turning down a job offer is not really a big deal.

Thanks for your feedback!
But how to I state it?
"Thank you for your time and intention to hire but I got another interview for a better offer" ?
Can't said I'm not interested to take up the offer because I told the HR and GM straight in the eye "Yes, I'm interested!" in the previous interview. biggrin.gif
Once again, thanks.

you're interested but there's a better offer elsewhere which you're equally interested or perhaps more interested.
so no worries, you won't contradict yourself. just tell them what's happening, if things doesn't work out in europe, you may politely ask them if they are still keen to take you in? just my 2 cents.

Hi all, I am going to have a face-to-face interview after getting through a phone interview with the HR. I have already got the info for the time and location of the interview. However by the end of the phone interview, the HR asked is there any questions I want to ask, I forgot to ask about the interview details(the process, interviewer, etc).

Am I making a bad impression here for not asking for any of those? Should I send an email reply to ask more about the interview? Thanks.

No it doesn't give a bad impression, and yes you definitely can and should contact them to know more if you think it is necessary.

mostly it only provide you a very good stepping stone into your first job. thereafter, not so much when you have a few years of experience under your belt.

Hi guys, I got a few questions to ask. icon_question.gif
Saw many tips about interview that, during the interview we should not ask about the salary & benefits by ourselves. So today I went for an interview and keep myself remind of it.
After the interview the interviewer say he would offer me the job shocking.gif
Maybe I'm too nervous (excited?) and I totally forget to ask about benefits of the job and the interviewer didn't mentioned it as well. But luckily the company give me choices if I want to consider for 2 days and get back to them later, and I choose to get back to them later.

So I would like to ask, how should I ask about the details of the benefits? It should be quite reasonable to know about that before accepting the job right?? I also wish to know that whether there will be an employment bond.
Can I ask them send a copy of the contract or the benefits through email? Or just ask through phone?
How should I ask about that with a polite and professional way? Will it be too straightforward if I want to know the benefits for my consideration?
Btw The company already offer me a salary and I have agree with it.

Thank you for any help! notworthy.gif
