QUOTE(mat79 @ Apr 24 2012, 11:04 PM)
about cvt whining, try to confirm with method i tell u just now. The whining will become lesser when its matured.

Yup, still can long drive even during break in period, just that if can, avoid hilly area. But if cannot, its still ok, just dont drive beyond the limit.

If not mistaken, the new timing belt change procedure for iafm+ n cfe engine is 6 years @ 120k km, which ever come first. Try to confirm during ur 1st service. But the fead belt need to change every 100k km.

mat. what is the limit speed during break in period. and why need to avoid hilly area?

Thanks Mat79 for your explanation

I believe the engine roaring sound + CVT whining is the one that protrude to the cabin during hard acceleration. I'm not used to CVT system and CFE engine, so maybe that is the reason the sound a bit louder or perhaps because the car is still new (some SA said that is the reason). Any other car that behave the same (the engine sound).

Anyway, since I've testdrove 4 different units, I realized the sound is different. on two cars, the sound were loud and the other two were reasonable. One more thing, in both cars with the loud sound, the dashboard seems rattle a bit during hard acceleration... is it normal ? what cause the rattling ?

Front end accesories drive belt, commonly known as aircon belt. Its the belt that powers the aircon compressor, power steering etc etc.

It seems that mat79 is gonna be our guru for the time being. So much information needed. Preve is way too mysterious to us.

i hope Preve can climb up genting with less struggle...can maintain better RPM...less than 2000RPM is really hard...very slow...like turtle...with turbo...i think it should be no problem...

Agree. Sounds troublesome when drive uphill. Must maintain rpm above 2k.

Any cvt driver experience like this before?

Feels like an airplane with airplane sound. tongue.gif

Seriously, the main advantage of a cvt is the ability to keep the engine running at the optimum RPM vs load, independent of vehicle speed.

Does CVT heat more easily than conventional auto gearbox?

Early gen Lancer GTs got tons of heating issues..
