I heard low carbs diet would be more effective and never put anything into your mouth after 6pm except for plain water. A gallon is much preferable.

The 'no food after 6/7/8/9 pm' rule is a BS. Same with 'Eat Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Queen and Dinner like a Pauper'. Total BS.

eat anything but just give up grains (rice, wheat, oats, cereal) 100% and you can eat anytime of the day. you will start to lose weight naturally.

diet should not have schedule/recipes/rules/plans to follow. dieting should not feel hungry.

giving up grains is not a diet rule but how being human should eat. go google "why you should give up grains".

grains means roti canai, fried rice, nasi lemak, hokkien mee, krispy kreme, auntie anne pretzel, yau char kueh, har mee, mamak mee goreng, capati, putumayam, kueh muih, chee cheong fun, gardenia, biscuits, cookies, etc....lol ..sounds alot to give up but..u are only giving up 1 food here..its all flour in disguise.

why giving up grains and have such a big impact on weight lose and following a diet plan seems so difficult follow through?

forget all about lowfat, lowcarb, diet recipes, eating schedules, cardio exercises, weekly training, slimming centres... its tough to lose weight following any of these "plans".

to lose weight effectively and naturally is to know only ONE thing. its "How fast the food u eat turns into blood sugar" that makes you fat.

It is NOT "sugar" nor "fat" that makes us fat. Again, it is "how fast the food becomes sugar" in our body that makes us fat.

Hence, Glycemic Index (GI) is the key.

But individual food GI does not matter anymore when everyday we are gulping down 90% flour/rice content at any given meal time.

Grains/flour/wholemeal/rice/brownrice/oat/cereal turns to blood sugar (high GI) the moment u eat it.
Go Google "how sugar are stored as fat"

And grains, are not meant for human consumption.

Give up grains and you don't need any diet plans to lose weight.

So, even if I didn't take any white carb / simple carb / complex carb but eating meat that leads to calorie surplus of 1K a day, I still lose weight?

simple carb and complex carb are two things. strive to eliminate simple carb from processed food and sugar drinks. minimize simple carbs from natural food like fruits. complex carb in vege forms is important for a steady flow of blood sugar conversion to energy throughout the day.

the key is to slow down food conversion to sugar as much as possible and not getting hungry. and you wont get hungry when insulin level is steady throughout the day. to achieve a steady insulin level, make sure food you eat converts to sugar slowly. its a healthy cycle

when food is converted to sugar in a rate faster than it is being used as energy, the rest unused sugar are
stored as fat "within the same period of the meal time"

Eat less but more meals is to eat only enough "energy" to use up for the next 2 hours before your next fueling session.

If you try to eat more during breakfast in order to eat less during lunch, or eat more dinner before 6pm so you dont have to eat supper, depending on the type of food, if its HI GI food like rice n mee, sugars are already being stored as fat during the morning and dinner session. you will find it hard to go through the day, feel hungry and still be fat. this is caused by "sugar spike, insulin also spike" pattern.

if its all natural food like veges, fruits, nuts, meat then you can last/tahan the whole day without feeling hungry and with steady energy level.

eat less but frequent is not a diet plan to lose weight. its good to stabilize insulin level for health purposes. lose weight is the side effects of it.

calorie counting for the day do not work in losing weight  if you eat alot during breakfast/lunch and skip dinner because you have exceed the daily limited. it makes u hungry at night, confuse whats right or wrong.. and yet no weight lost. ( fats are stored during morning/lunch session)

But calorie counting if important when you stagger your meals and not overeat in every meal. to lose weight, dont have surplus calorie for that particular meal session. and when adds up, dont go over the daily recommend calories.

no, you wont lose weight if you eat only vege n meat exceeding yr calorie limit. you will still be fat.

but the key to remember in losing weight the healthy way is to eat within your daily calorie intake with food that turn to sugar(energy) slowly throughout the day.

Uh, so the KEY is calorie in vs calorie out right? Not GI Index?

For the BOLDED part:
What if I ate a lot during breakfast and lunch but didn't eat at all during dinner but the calorie for my breakfast and dinner still not exceeding my calorie threshold (calorie maintenance), do I still gain fat?

Apparently, it is not me who says it is BS but most BB knows this and most of them are excel at cutting (losing the fat). Want me to explain why it is BS? It is all about calories. If you eat more than what your body can burn, the you'll gain fat; doesn't matter what is the source of the food.

Maybe a diagram can help you understand:

Calorie In (Intake) VS Calorie Out (Output)

It is not about GI, it is not about meal timing, it is not about the food that you consume but it is all about calorie.

P/S: Do you want source for the BS statement?

As a general rule it is calorie in vs calorie out, its not wrong. of course eating more than used will gain fat.

But GI is the key that explain why modern humans have to battle with fats constantly like counting calorie, going to gym, worrying what to eat, etc. gaining fat easily but losing is tough. is it so hard to be a normal lean human?

the problem is in the grains we eat daily.

try not eating any form of grains 100% for 3 weeks. you will feel results in many ways and realize losing weight is just a natural human trait.

when you stop eating grains/flour, calorie counting is less stressful. you can eat alot before reaching the limited.

@alien9,

As I said, the main factor effecting your fat is what nutrients that you have consume. You are just like comparing a person who is drinking coke vs drinking a plain water. Besides, your statement is assuming that people are eating as much as they like and losing weight like a magic.. the answers is a big NO!! There are alot meal replacement supplement out there and hundred of GYM and park out there. The main point is, do you have the initiative to realize your focus. Take it easy..

You will find it much more difficult to lose fat if you eat that way, ie : eating everything in the morning/afternoon and skip dinner (not exceeding your calorie threshold). and yes to a extend you will gain fat.

when you are dieting, you cannot create a hunger situation for yourself. eating this way will starve yourself in the evening when you need fuel to sleep, breathe and think at night. never let your body starve of food when dieting. your body will only fight back and win over your mind. in the end you will lose and eat even more. a very common scenario.

do calorie count, but do it the whole day while eating when you hungry (many meals). do it without the a major calorie contributor like simple carb. thats rice, noodles, breads and biscuits.

then you will be able to create a balance situation for your body like no sugar spike, balance food, no hunger pang, steady insulin level, fuel through the day, steady energy level and all within calorie limit.

you will start losing weight naturally with a healthier body.

The factor effecting our body fat is the rate blood sugar is created after food enter our body. excess and unused sugar are stored as fat in our liver. Our body should use up all these sugar(fuel) before the next meal. Excess fuel will become fat.

High GI food creates fuel fast. But do we use the fuel fast enough? example : a bowl of mee, these flour convert to sugar so fast that we simply do not used all up before they are stored as fat. and you will feel hungry by noon (due to high insulin level created by the fast and high sugar level)

If you eat salad with oil and eggs, these turns into fuel (sugar) at steady rate throughout the few hours in the morning when you walk, talk and breathe. no excess sugars are store as fat and you will feel less hungry (steady insulin level).

There is nothing here that you said about nutrition at all. So, you are trying to say that CARBS is bad for human? That's typical for someone who says meal replacement is a good way for losing fat.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

What you said here, albeit it is true that consuming low GI food so that you doesn't feel hungrier fast is a 'TECHNIQUE' to cope up for hunger bing during dieting. Some people me for example, fasted 16 hours a day and eat whatever I want (as long as below my calorie requirement) and still lose fat. I eat maggi, I eat rice, I eat butter.

What you said is mainly a 'technique' but you cannot disagree that calorie in vs calorie out is the most important thing for fat loss and bulking. Whatever food you consume, even if you doesn't take carb at all but munching 4000 kcal worth of protein and creating 1000 kcal surplus ever day, you'll still gain weight. Which is the statment that I was trying to make (with the pic too).

P/S: Owh yeah. Doesn't trust me on 'I eat what I want but still lose weight' part? Head in to bodybuilding section and you can see our BB's Food Thread . We eat rice, ice cream, nasi lemak, choc moist cake and still losing weight. Try to learn a few things from them eh?

calorie in vs out is important to lose weight and especially true for someone who is doing body building and exercise regime. the body is a fat burning machine and its interesting to count calories. an active person can afford to eat without much worry about gaining fat.

but generally most people (in 30s-40s) dont exercise enough to burn fat. we eat little but yet gain fat. And generally ppl dont go through lives counting calories. thats why it is important to understand how GI works. This thread is about losing weight not bodybuilding.

applying a strict calorie in and exercise to get calorie out (which is important) is a very difficult path for most ppl to follow. hence it is so difficult to lose weight.

for a generally inactive person, calorie in vs calorie out is (also important)  but our calorie out is so little thats why we have to watch the calorie in. Eliminating grains out of our meal helps lower a big portion of calorie in.

GI is not a "technique" to lower hunger bing but a fundamental explanation of how to effectively count calories, for general people.

Well I think anyone looking to losing weight should give chia seeds a try. In my case it proved to be an effective yet palatable method. Chia seeds have various benefits like:

rich in omega-3,
Feel light and energized,
maintain ideal blood sugar level, and
shed weight without starving. I took advise of a medico and he affirmed that these are really useful and have no side effects. These are recommended also for athletes to provide wholesome nourishment for heavy training routines.

you can use them in seeds. Then just mix them in water and there you go. This way you save money, if these are available at your place, otherwise you have to shell out at least 7 dollars for a small pack. I got hold of an online store where you get them. Its Chia seeds or you may get it cheaper. Try nod.gif

Added on November 3, 2012, 4:59 pmgrain as a major food consumption is just not right for humans. just like grass, grains should not be considered as a food group. grain with its skin on (brown rice),is not meant to be digested by humans. grains without skin (white rice) needs huge machineries to remove the skin to be digested by humans. man is smart. man turn non edible food into edible large quantity cheap food source for humans ever growing population. and this cheap fuel caused sugar spike daily in your body and thus the beginning of all modern disease. obesity, diebetes, heart diease, acne, colon cancer, osteoarthritis, gout, etc.

Added on November 3, 2012, 5:12 pmjust look around you, most ppl are plump with tummies and double chins. for those who are lean, they either have to control their diet or exercise actively. why humans is in this shape? why can't we just do nothing and eat normally and yet be thin and lean?

the answer is in your nasi lemak, maggi mee, roti canai, noodles, bread, biscuits, cakes... many names many food but all are just "flour". try counting the percentage u consume flour every meal instead of counting calories.

if you seriously need to lose some weight without worrying about actual calorie numbers, joining a gym, what diet recipe, what meal time, which workout regime, which slimming centre to join, what fat burner to eat, what pills to eat...you should try removing grains from your diet for a month.

I was 78kg in Aug and now 71kg. not a super fast drop but thats 3 months without trying anything at all. Well except not touching Grains and potato 100% and 2 hours casual badminton ONCE a week or washing  2 cars.

and I never felt i miss rice and noodles. infact my energy is more than before, sleep better, not hungry, no more blackheads and ance, no more digestive problem, super smooth bowel movement, skin is more radiant, eye dark circle gone, harder fingernails, and my knees arthritis is less painful than before.

i have been taking oxyelite pro fat burner for 1 month...lost about 8 kg from 87kg to 79kg..of course you need to do cardio to burn the fats..not im cycling off the fat burners, after deepavali, im going to take lipo 6 black ultra concentrate fat burner to further reduce my fat percentage

my question is, should i stop eating carbohydrates, or it is recomended to eat carbohydrate in minimal amount?
