@Giao2 -

Well, the Hp Dv6 looked like a normal laptop with i7.

Heck, even the new Sager looks like normal laptop. If you want less exotic design, maybe you should look into Sager or other models.

Hello guys, I'm planning to get a new laptop to replace my old laptop to play DoTA 2 in highest settings and able to withstand the heat for playing it the whole day. After almost 3 years of abuse of DoTA and 1080p video whole days, I think it's about time for this laptop to rest... 1 more thing, when playing games in afternoon my CPU temperature can reach up to 6x-7x celcius...

My old laptop, Acer Aspire 4700:
i3 330m 2.13Ghz
Intel Graphics 763 MB DVMT
2GB Ram

=======================================================================================================

My requirements:
1. Brand: Any brands, while I don't think this is brand specifics but I wanted a laptop that can withstand high temperature and long term usage.
2. Budget: 2-3k
3. Usage: Mostly DoTA 2 gaming + videos and occasionally some new high end games (Diablo 3), depends on my game budget but try to stick with free games. I won't be bringing this laptop outside as I can bring my old laptop or netbook out instead of this new laptop.
4. 14 inches will do as my budget is quite limited...

One of my friend offer me a used (3 months) Asus A43S for RM 2k, here is the specs:
i5 (I don't remember the clock speed)
Nvidia GT 610M 2GB Ram (610m or 620m, I don't remember)
8 GB DDR3 Ram

Do you guys think this is a nice offer for my requirements above?

Look. If you already have a 2-3k budget. Might as well get a new Asus laptop. I'd recommend one of Asus's U-series. Ranging within your budget. smile.gif Try and googling for the brochures or just flip through their sites. As much as I know, the U-series have enough and not minimal specs for what you need. There is another Asus laptop my friend is using, the ASUS A43SA-VX039V. Price is around RM2.6. Specs are as below:

ASUS A43SA-VX039V
CORE i7-2670QM (2.2GHz)
4GB DDR3 RAM
640GB HARDDISK
AMD 6730M 2GB
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM

Hope this helps narrowing down your choices. smile.gif

Thanks for the reply, the reasons I'm interested in my friends offer because I think i5 processer, Nvidia GT 610M/620M with 2 GB dedicated Ram was enough for me to play DoTA 2 at highest setting and it also comes with 8 Gb ram for only RM 2K which I think is quite a nice deals. The laptop your friend is using, other than the processor itself all the other specs seemed to almost the same but cost RM 600 extra and many friends told me to avoid AMD graphic card because it is not good, it that true?

Haha. Partially true. Well, if you can afford NVidia, don't think elsewhere. Just go for it. That's what the pros always say. There was a discussion on another forum saying AMD is going down by the month. Well, if you don't mind second hand and if it's still in tip top condition, I'd say just go for what your friend offered you. smile.gif

Since you have a good budget, do consider this one instead, the GPU is much more powerful than the Nvidia GT610m/540m/AMD HD6730M:
14"
Asus N45SL (Jay-Chou edition), i5-2450M + Nvidia GT635M@RM2899[Bang & Olufsen], 750GB (7200rpm), Color: White

Actually with your budget you can also opt for these 15" gaming notebooks (with even better GPUs):
Acer
M3-581TG-52466G52, i5-2467M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2599, 6GB, 500GB
V3-571G-73614G1T, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2899, 4GB, 1TB

HP
dv6-6c19TX, i7-2670QM + AMD HD7690M XT@RM3099[Beats], 4GB, 750GB (5400rpm)

Gaming relies more on the GPU rather than the CPU, so you'll want to avoid an i7 if possible because it generates a lot of heat and consumes alot of power as well

Will look into the Acer series, the price and specs looked quite good too but the shop arounds here don't have much Acer laptop... will go check it out in lowyat.
Btw, while I'm on it... Any of these laptop can withstand high temperature as my old Acer laptop CPU temperature can reach up to 6x-7x celsius when playing game in afternoon. Almost 3 years of constant heating, nowadays it will shut off by itself when overheated T_T... As long as I can play DoTA 2 without a hitch most laptop will do for me.

i7 processors can go up to 100C when gaming brows.gif
Dota2's requirements are not fixed yet right? Do correct me if I'm wrong hmm.gif
But it seems that Dota2 doesn't require a lot of GPU power to play, the GT635m in the Asus N45 would be more than enough

Why don't you think to but a Custom RIG ?

So, the overheating problem should be solved since you mentioned you will not bring out your new laptop.

True. smile.gif Since you're using it as non-portable heat generating machine. Might as well custom one right. smile.gif

IC, didn't know that different processor have different tolerance for heat.
Not fixed yet but those who have beta key can try it out already and since it's build on Steam Engine the requirement is not as high as other games which is what Steam Engine is famous for. I got my beta key at PC Fair, will get the installer when I get my new laptop since I'm pretty sure my current laptop can't support it.

Hmm, I haven't build any desktop before but I do have a plan for it... so for now I'm going to go with my budget and buy a laptop first. Will build a custom desktop when I have more knowledge on it and have more budget, I'm a college students and all the fund comes directly from my part time job as I don't want to burden my parents.

I see. Good to know and respect your good intentions there, bud. Stick to the laptop for now. For more knowledge on custom RIGs, track the thread on customizing. smile.gif Talk about old laptops. My old Acer Aspire 5920G can run Dota 2 smoothly on min spec. Hahaha. It's a 6 year old laptop. tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

I started to read about custom RIG recently but still very confused when it comes to model number as there are just too many but Nvidia GTX 580 should be the top graphic card from what I can comprehend and something about Kelpher is coming out soon... Slowly learning and making the list of components as I have abundant of time before I can get the budget to build my first custom RIG tongue.gif

you should pick dell laptop, its warranty is the best
+ with your budget, dell inspiron series would be good pick as if compare with hp g series, asus a series, the speaker / sound effect of it are much better - louder
*
Yeah, I know about their warranty but can you confirm about their build quality? When I ask about my friends who owns a Dell, all of them had some kinda problem. Button, hinge, mobo, screen problems... that is why they need to build up a good warranty service. My gf and I own a 6 year and a 4 year laptop without any problem at all...

In the end, I prefer build quality>warranty... hmm.gif since that a laptop without problem didn't need any kind of warranty, isn't that right? thumbup.gif Btw. I think the first page can list out all the brand's pros & cons, as this is the only thing that needs previous experience.

If you max up graphic details in Dota 2, i believe even GT555M/HD6770M/GT635M/HD7690M XT/GT640M have problem keeping a steady 60fps. tongue.gif

Hi Pros!
want to know why you guys keep recommended this model "Asus N55Sf-S1515v" since EOL-ed already.
I compare it with JayChou Edition, N45SL -VX021V, their spec are all equal, except the screen size.
GT 555 (N55) vs GT 635 (N45) (or older version graphics is better?), 7,200 rpm, audio oso same. the price also roughly similar, unless you guys meant N55SF is much cheaper la.
