Hello guys, I'm planning to get a new laptop to replace my old laptop to play DoTA 2 in highest settings and able to withstand the heat for playing it the whole day. After almost 3 years of abuse of DoTA and 1080p video whole days, I think it's about time for this laptop to rest... 1 more thing, when playing games in afternoon my CPU temperature can reach up to 6x-7x celcius...

My old laptop, Acer Aspire 4700:
i3 330m 2.13Ghz
Intel Graphics 763 MB DVMT
2GB Ram

My requirements:
1. Brand: Any brands, while I don't think this is brand specifics but I wanted a laptop that can withstand high temperature and long term usage.
2. Budget: 2-3k
3. Usage: Mostly DoTA 2 gaming + videos and occasionally some new high end games (Diablo 3), depends on my game budget but try to stick with free games. I won't be bringing this laptop outside as I can bring my old laptop or netbook out instead of this new laptop.
4. 14 inches will do as my budget is quite limited...

One of my friend offer me a used (3 months) Asus A43S for RM 2k, here is the specs:
i5 (I don't remember the clock speed)
Nvidia GT 610M 2GB Ram (610m or 620m, I don't remember)
8 GB DDR3 Ram

Do you guys think this is a nice offer for my requirements above?

Thanks for the reply, the reasons I'm interested in my friends offer because I think i5 processer, Nvidia GT 610M/620M with 2 GB dedicated Ram was enough for me to play DoTA 2 at highest setting and it also comes with 8 Gb ram for only RM 2K which I think is quite a nice deals. The laptop your friend is using, other than the processor itself all the other specs seemed to almost the same but cost RM 600 extra and many friends told me to avoid AMD graphic card because it is not good, it that true?

His laptop was only 3 months old, will get it to test for 1 week. Thanks anyway~

Will look into the Acer series, the price and specs looked quite good too but the shop arounds here don't have much Acer laptop... will go check it out in lowyat.
Btw, while I'm on it... Any of these laptop can withstand high temperature as my old Acer laptop CPU temperature can reach up to 6x-7x celsius when playing game in afternoon. Almost 3 years of constant heating, nowadays it will shut off by itself when overheated T_T... As long as I can play DoTA 2 without a hitch most laptop will do for me.

IC, didn't know that different processor have different tolerance for heat.
Not fixed yet but those who have beta key can try it out already and since it's build on Steam Engine the requirement is not as high as other games which is what Steam Engine is famous for. I got my beta key at PC Fair, will get the installer when I get my new laptop since I'm pretty sure my current laptop can't support it.

Hmm, I haven't build any desktop before but I do have a plan for it... so for now I'm going to go with my budget and buy a laptop first. Will build a custom desktop when I have more knowledge on it and have more budget, I'm a college students and all the fund comes directly from my part time job as I don't want to burden my parents.

I started to read about custom RIG recently but still very confused when it comes to model number as there are just too many but Nvidia GTX 580 should be the top graphic card from what I can comprehend and something about Kelpher is coming out soon... Slowly learning and making the list of components as I have abundant of time before I can get the budget to build my first custom RIG

As suggested by many ppl, I'm also interested in building a custom rig for gaming but I'm still on my way learning how to build my own custom rig and my budget is quite limited 2-3k and I'd like to minimize it as much as possible for now. I haven't tested DoTA 2 yet so I don't know much about the requirements for now but I'd like to play it with as much details as possible from my laptop... within my humble budget.

Although I said I'm going to need a laptop that I can used without concern of overheating, I will only use it for 3 hours gaming at most as I'm busy with my jobs, assignment, studies, societies (Recently appointed as vice president). I do not have the time for extensive hour of gaming but would still like to get a laptop that can do so... again, within my humble budget XD I know I'm asking for too much... I don't think so I'm qualified as a hardcore gamer and I don't play other game much other than DoTA so I think a laptop should be fine for me now
