Okay.
But actually chicken brands tend to heat up faster? more unstable?
It also affects the clarity of the speakers/subwoofers?
Brands like Soundstream/Etone etc etc are chicken? Alpine & Pioneer too?

can't comment since i never used (and never will) chicken brands. their clarity/accuracy is enough of a turn off for me to go for them biggrin.gif

AFAIK soundstream/etone arent chicken, though AFAIK soundstream are more into amps, and etone kinda have a niche market.

alpine/pioneer are pretty much HU/processors only. their low end speakers are a lost cause and their high ends (like the discontinued alpine F#1) are not worth it

I duno much about SS or Etone but I'd be surprised if you can get Alpine for RM500... unless you're talking 2nd hand?

If you could top it up to 1k I think you might be able to get get the Alpine PDX monoblocks or something along those lines. Perhaps even the JL smaller monoblocks. But whatever it is you get, make sure the amp supports the impedance requirements of the sub. dual voice coil 4ohm means your amp needs to support 2ohm minimum. Dual voice coil 2ohm means 1ohm minimum. If single coil the just see whats the impedance and whether the amp supports it or not. Otherwise whatever brand you use you'll hurt the amp.

Chicken brands are called that because they never deliver what they promise. Not because they are unstable or heat up faster or whatever. In some extremely bad chicken brands, they advertise xxxx but give you zzzz then something spoils because of it. In most cases it's just a matter of "1000w RMS" but only deliver 250w which isn't so bad.

Oh and if you have golden ears, you'll be able to hear the difference in bass with the different amps. Compare the Alpine PDX Class-D Monoblocks with a class-AB monoblock and you might hear the difference. Of course class-AB is more expensive and can be quite rare.

thanks krayden for your comment.i forgot to mention i need subs somewhere in 400rms. i plan to use 1 amp only which is my 6ch mcintosh 440m. i bridge to 3ch (200w x 2) and (400w x 1). 200w x 2 to powered my morel hybrid ovation (front comp) and 400w rms for subs. i know mcintosh amp can supply more but to be safe i want to stay in 400w region for my subs.my morel tempo coax directly powered from HU.

btw im using 4ga power cable and do jl subs sound good? last time i heard its more towards spl. i dont want to boom boom but just pure sq. and the last thing i want to do is to open my boot and listen from outside ;-) its in car entertainment (ice) not outside car entertainment(oce) hehe

You got some heavy duty gear. Love that amp btw! Do something about the HU tho brows.gif

As for sub, what sort of music do you listen to? There's a few subs out there that you can look out for. Not all JLs are boom boom boom, they are pretty quick subs so properly tuned you can get pretty good bass, I particularly like the W6v2 and used to own a W3v2. Both did great with the infamous Pirates of the Caribbean #1 theme song which will show how fast/slow your sub is. At that time the W6v2 was powered by a TRU Hammer (not my setup) and my W3v2 was fed with a Orion HCCA G4. Might be worth mentioning that both amps are Class AB though. I personally feel class AB works better than Class D even for monoblocks. Personal opinion.

The other SQ subs that people swear by are Scanspeaks, Seas lotus and Morel but personally I find them too soft for my liking. Perhaps it's the way they were setup but none did too well in my ears with my kind of music but to be fair I don't think these SQ subs were designed for electronic bass music. rolleyes.gif

Suggest you test these subs yourself before you settle for one. Right now I'm using a Boston G5 with a JL1000/1 and I'm quite happy with it. But my meat might be your poison so can't really advise.

JL Audio subs are among the more popular subwoofers for SQ folks. So yeah, with a well made sealed box, they can do SQ setups pretty well. smile.gif

thanks iszo and quazacolt for your comment and compliment:-)

as for my music preference, i listen to all kind of music. but i hear a lot of slow rock and jazz.

i did test some jl b4,(but cant remember the model) but it didnt satisfy me.slow bass response and too hard for me. but i dont think that were the models u guys suggested to me.anyway i will try to find jl w3 and w6 to test it. do u know any shop near ipoh or kl that can test those subs? what bout peerless xxls recommended by mr zenn? 900 quite okay and maybe looking to invest on HU later hehe.
as for HU, for double din multimedia, i heard alpine w900 is the best that money can buy atm? is that true? i mean for sq related. correct me if im wrong.
as u all know, im trying to get the best setup within my budget so i can forget bout upgrading for the next 5 years or so :-) and enjoy the ice instead of 'gatal tangan'.hehe. so exp la upgrading. so far spend 9k already. subs and HU not incl. If my wife know then will get scold hehe

The people sitting at the back do not feel anything. Was powering it with Genesis DM.
