could you please provide a full review for the boston G5? better if you can compare/review side by side with the JL Audio W6 or W3 biggrin.gif

very interested since i am using a boston sub too and i really like em XD
*
It's slower compared to the W6. But boy will it go low and loud. That's plenty for my Prince, Anjunabeats, Avincii and super ahbeng Initial-D CDs. My biggest issue is getting it to sound right. The JL 1000/1 has got so many functions, knobs and buttons I dunno what does what. I mean what's infrasonic?? Then there's like 2 separate gains for one channel and this amp has two outputs wtf. It's a monoblock for crying out loud. Anyway, I'm liking the G5 but I prefer the W6 but since the price is almost 800 different, I'll stick with the G5.

Don't compare with the W3 though. In terms of tone, clarity and all the W3 is actually better but in terms of speed and sheer volume W3 is no fight. I like hard heart stopping bass!

guys,
i shortlist boston g5 - rm dont know, peerless xxls- rm900, morel primo 124 - rm1050.
what do u all suggest..
thanks

I guess value for money Peerless XXLS is not too bad. The G5 is in about the RM1500 range since it's supposed to be clunked together with the W6 so it's in a "higher class" hence the higher price. Morel Primo is a SQ sub. You'll have difficulty with hard hitting bassy songs i think but musical wise, it's not as good as the scanspeaks but it holds its own la. Is pretty power thirsty though.

For KL, CV Audio Uptown Damansara has G5, W3 and W6 and if not mistaken W7 also. Unless my G5 is their last unit they should still have the G5.

thanks for the response bro.

as you said, speed is among an important criteria i seek in my bass, and seems like Boston acoustics got that down.
surprisingly despite being an entry level G1 my subwoofer seemingly outperforms many (even in the mid range models, at least from what i've audited before anyways) when it comes to getting that PRAT and LFE accurately.

anyways you mentioned G5, is that an old model that boston no longer produces? dont think i've ever come across that much less their official site.
how does it compare to their reference class sub woofer or their regular line up G2/3 (i got the G1 anyways so we can just skip that)

May I suggest this one : Eclipse SW8200 12" 700RMS subwoofer from here https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1225461&hl=

The people sitting at the back do not feel anything. Was powering it with Genesis DM.

I dunno how to compare with those other Bostons since I've never heard them. Mind you - it's fast but still audibly slower than the W6.

Not really. The IDMax also quite an amazing sub. Only problem is finding a seller willing to let go and whether the sub needs refurbishing since it's not a new one.

I haven't heard other brands like Fi and some other exotic brands that lots of people swear by. But personally I like the W6 la. I just don't like the price.

I'm getting an Inspira soon. Have anyone of you heard the stock speakers? It's quite decent already. Thinking of adding two 8inch subs plus a box in the boot and an amp. I don't blast my speakers, just above average volume.

Wanna change the HU to a double din touch screen too. Budget limited to Rm2.8k for now. Any advice?

So? Go for 10" instead? Won't it be overpowered due to the fact that I'm not changing the original speakers?

one 10" or 12", bad tuning is what cause overpowering, not the speakers/subwoofer

2 x 8" = 1 x 10"... well experience wise...

but why waste the usable boot space, money and wires? right?

not to mention 8" or 10" very hard to hit the low frequencies/LFE's as a 12" would biggrin.gif

How much would 12" cost? Which amp is suitable?

a good reputable brand sub cost between 300-400+ at least for an entry level not including enclosure box/installation/wiring
a good reputable brand amp cost starting around 1k +/-

Can you give a suggestion of a sub and an amp pairing? Is it okay if I pair with stock speaker first, the only upgrade in the future?

hard to give suggestion considering how vast the ICE world can be in brands and what not. unlike headphones where you have jaben to audit wink.gif
that said, time to time there are TT sessions which you could join to find out what brands' sound signature is up to your preference.

and yes if you go for a 4channel amp, you can even use it to power your current stock speakers, then in the future could upgrade the stock speakers to decent component set and have the amp power those instead.
