more like SEA server is dying, personally moved to NA for more match ups

i live in the USA right now so im playing on the NA and KR server, so is the malaysian or the SEA scene really dying?

Not exactly.. The community isn't big enough due to the rampant demand for pirated games.. I find it really hard to find net cafe (in Penang mainland) which got SC2 to play.. A bit depressing..

Mostly people are DOTArds. Team play is way much better than solo play. Starcraft 2 have to many thing to look after and build. Not all people are capable to do this so hence forth DOTA. Easy to play since you are looking at your hero and do not need much brain power to play.

After FXOpen has teamed with ST, things seem to be a little bit different with what our "investor" says earlier.

But still, even the smart one will choose to leave Malaysia, and focus on somewhere with better potential, this we call smart play, i believe FXOpen isn't dumb right?

Yes. Msia SC2 is never meant to be big in the first place. It is all about DOTA! DOTA! DOTA! DOTA!

That is why I am happy to see the investor or organizer focuses on better things instead of wasting money, time and energy.

i haven't got time to play the multiplayer since i bought this game at launch date. Just be able to catch some free time to play single player. Last week I've finally starting to have time to play multiplayer online. but i'm very disappointed to realize that there's not much players online in SEA server.

At the login menu, click the "region" and click " USA", and you are done. In order to make the "region" appears, click guest, and cancel, and now "region" is there.

the good thing about team play is can do this to another 9 ppl , much more exciting than doing it to the 1 opponent.

haih -,-, since the days of broodwar it has been like this de, msian ppl will nagg if lose too many games and not willing to work hard , so its not recommended to think sc2 will do well in msia k.

still thinks its not much related to FXO or anything but piracy and many have not try playing sc2 before or even heard of it, I think if there is a big public show and demo for the public the game will rise back, and the price is abit steep for malaysian as most of us are used to pirated dvd comparison to an original game the gap is too big for malaysians to accept it

it's not about the prize money. it's about the amateurs not wanting to play competitively because of their mindset thinking that all the tournaments will be dominated by the same people. we have to think of a way to fix that and spotgamers and cyberfusion have come up with an idea of groupings in their league. currently, everyone is at Grade C. if we get more support, the pros will move to Grade B and the amateurs will come in at Grade C. hence, everyone is a winner! the thing we need now is more exposure!

If its not DOTA, nobody cares.

Exposure means nothing if the prize money is low. Trust me, if msia tournament prize money is Rm10,000 above, you can see all nerds, students and etc start training like a mad man. In fact, even I will force myself click the 1v1 ladder quick match for training.

You honestly think so ? IF a 1k prize pool tourney , and the numbers who turn up is so low , I personally don't think that a 10k tourney is in place ,all the lower tier players or the people you mention would turn up. Instead i think the number of foreigners participating would be high . LoL

Like the recent Spotgamers tourney , the number of foreigners that turn up for the open qualifier last Saturday , was almost equal to the Malaysians that participated. What am i trying to say is ,the amount of Malaysians that even bother participating is pathetic .About the prize pool, is RM 1k big to the foreigners ? honestly no . Barely covers their accommodation and transportation , and this is taking into account in the event where you get first place , but the foreigners still did come down and had fun and compete .

Spotgamers even made it in a way where the top 16 gets rewarded , which is a good initiative by them , not to mention the lucky draws as well as freebies .
The platform is there , with tournaments popping up here and there , but what we are lacking are the players . How hard is it to join a tournament , be it as a casual or a competitive player ? its like another platform to get to know other players as well as socializing, apart from competing .


In short , no matter what the exposure is ,how big the tourneys are , if the community does not change their mindset like what radical mentioned , it would be futile as well .


I don't mean any offence to anyone , nor is it targeted towards any individual , just my thoughts after the 2 days event at spotgamers .

I still can't wait for the day where all the missing links would just turn up at a SC2 tourney , with a 64 player bracket .

So, you are basically saying that msian, who discarded their pathetic mindsets and attitudes, and completely dedicate to SC2 will take part of the tournament even if the prize money is Rm10?

I wonder, will GSL or MLG going to be successful if the prize is $50 for the 1st place?

I think what SC2 needed in Malaysia right now is exposure, and then people (like day9) to actually educate those player to have the correct mindsets.

I never mention anything about total dedication , everyone has their own social life / work life / student life etc . And just so you know , our Singapore counter parts , share with us that their recent tourney in singapore , with no prize pool , attracted a crowd of players to participate ranging from 30 to 40 people . am I not amazed lol.

On the other side , I do agree prize pool plays a role , but giving an example of rm10 for the prize pool is way out of line , sorry to say . but looking at the recent tourney of spot gamers , i do think their prize pool is decent for our SC2 community, 1000 for first , 700 for 2nd , 400 for 3rd, 250 for 4th, 150 from 5 to 8th and 75 9 -16th,but what are the numbers of Malaysian SC2 gamers that participated ? = /

And to SC gamers out there , if you guys want to play a part in disallowing the SC community from dying in Malaysia , for those who has free time during their weekend, do participate in the Taylors tournament , be it for the prize pool , the networking among start craft 2 players , or just go and grasp the feeling of competing among fellow Malaysian gamers . Well, price is too steep. US$60 is a lot of money for it given that I hear the campaign is too short. I've been waiting for price to fall, but since it's release date it never fell.

If Blizzard really want to make money, they should try offering the title at 75% discount sale like Steam. I won't think twice if the game's only RM45, but RM180... Given that Blizzard's owned by Activision tho, Kotick is probably too greedy to even consider...

Typical Malaysian mentality, want diamonds, but will only pay peanuts.

the US60$ is not just for the campaign (even that isn't THAT short, its still 10+ hours long I think) but for the Multiplayer feature.

The multiplayer is MASSIVE in features, from the thousands of minigames in customs (Star Battle is already enough to soak up all your time) to the always updating map pools of league games.

I have no friends to play 2v2 now. so sad.

it'll take u around 20-30 hours to completely complete the campaign and other SP stuffs such as the challenges...

the main attraction of SC2 is really the MP...
i have spent like loads of hours on it both alone and with my frens/ clanmates...
it is totally worth the 160bucks i paid for it and i am still playing it with my frens up to today...

In case you didn't know, the price dropped significantly and you can get a lot of good deals online. Blizzard is not owned by Activision, they just did a merger. And like other players say, it's not about the "short" single player but the multi player experience that is the real deal!!!

I would definitely participate in a tourney with minimal prize pool. Spotgamers is being more than generous imo. Top 16 is very achievable for the lower tier players and what not.

A lot of people don't understand that it takes participation for the prize pool to get bigger. Sponsors would hardly dip their pockets into a bad investment.

The root of the problem here as silk said, is the mindset and perception towards joining tourneys!

Sad to see this post. Payouts have never been better. Yet everyone thinks that "Oh 180 expensive wei. I play DOTA better". FYI there aren't very many teams that take part in tournaments in DOTA as well and only the best teams ever get paid. How many times has a 4th place finisher gotten paid in such an event in Malaysia? Don't forget you're intending to split the prize money with your teammates. And unless you can find a kia su team you aren't going far since everyone has to improve together. Your skill in SC2 is all up to how much you put into it. Can't learn? Watch Day9 man. Even i do. Honestly, the infrastructure is there. It's just that Malaysians aren't willing to put in the extra effort cuz well "It's too hard la. That race IMBA"! Well if you don't work hard you don't get what you want. It's as simple as that.

Anyway guys, please enter the up coming tournaments. Spotgamers were kind enough to offer the Top 16 a minimum of RM75. Guess what there were only 17 participants. As a player i feel bad for them since it's almost free money. It's supposed to encourage players to join but i was dissapointer at the turnout. This kind of payout, as opposed to large pool top 3 takes all is way better since variance is so much lower. Tournament of 64 players? Just win 2 rounds and you've made 6 times your entry fee. Not to mention the fact that the higher the prize pool, the higher the number of international players that will join. You don't have to be awesome like Cobo and take 1st place to make money anymore. But you gotta at least be on par with the crowd.

i think most of us were nt aware of the sportsgamer recent event as well else u'll see higher turnout.

Its advertised on facebook as well their own website . it even has a thread on our SC2 forums as well as lowyat competitive gaming . Foreigners knows about the tourneys , and not malaysians ? Don't get me wrong , im not pointing fingers at anyone , but what im trying to say , alot of Malaysian sc2 players do frequent lowyat.net for guides /updates/tourneys etc, so i believe they have access to such Information

Idk, I'm only willing to buy online, and that's how much Blizzard's online download edition costs. Don't want to go to shops to buy games anymore, last time I went tro SS2 to buy a game from TSB I kena sangkut in two hour traffic jam, have problem finding parking, and nearly kena sangkut when going home because I parked my car in an area that was going to have pasar malam (seriously? pasar malam in an area with nasty congestion and parking problem? WTF is MPPJ thinking!?!).

TSB's online store is no better. Have to fax in IC to verify account first. Hello! How many people have fax machine at home!

Greeting everyone, i and my friend just join the sc2 community, for the time being we continuously using the 7 hours guess pass and planning to upgrade to 30 days game card XD.. just that SEA server not merrily enough.. but we still keep enjoying multiplayer feature and pawning each other every night ..

I always have fun watching sc2 but stressed out playing it, now i dun even dare to patch my sc2 to login.. guess that..

this was discussed a lot in SotG 2 weeks back on how SC2 is becoming a true spectator sport...
for example, how many of us watch soccer and not play it consistently (F1 or any other sport)?
it is always fun to sitll watch and enjoy the game but you jz dun play it tat much =)

But at least i know wht I am watching from playing a bit of it.. if not you would be totally lost..

seriously sea server hard to find games compared to last beta launch. Im playing at NA server now. It so fast to get games there instead of sea. The pool there seem to be 10x bigger.

nobody play practice league nowadays. Go straight to 'Find Match'. For beginner, NA server is the easiest server to play.

Expect losses though, level of SC skill is higher compare to the other game. Example like me, playing Diablo for 1 week then comeback to SC, get totally owned. I cannot imagine how I'm gonna compete with others again in battle net if I'm going for months-long holiday

you are right. SC2 really needs commitment. Thats y there are not many SC2 players in Msia
