i never shoot cars before.
but basically AF speed very little slow down, and dont forget to set the 'focus tracking with lock-on' to a lower value.
tho if tracking sideways shouldnt be a problem.
if coming towards you, better stick with basics and pre-focus on a spot and use 8fps

What's the setting.u guys use.for.portraits.and.group.photos

It depends on what you want to achieve for single portrait people most of the time will be using a wide aperture and for groups a smaller aperture to make everyone tack sharp
