can anyone suggest a good alternative to the Nikon AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED DX VR II ?

a GOOD alternative will have you buying Nikkor 17-55/2.8 and 70-300VR

but if u mean good as in, cheap..
then there's Sigma and Tamron's all-rounder 18-200 lens..
Tamron even have 18-270 PZD
all are also GOOD!

if u mean good as in, really2 super good all-rounder then.. i guess Nikkor 18200 is it..

wait for new 18-300 to come out

I can't really comment on the 55-300 because I don't own 1
About the 35mm.. There are a few possibilities thou..

1) Did you use the single point on the 'words' of the item or just the item? This would make alot of difference because at f1.8 the DOF is really thin.
2) What was your shutter speed when you took the shot? If it was below 40 try to make it at least 40 or above would be even better!
3) Like admunser pointed out on the minimum focusing distance!

I went for AFA for the 2nd day thou(Today)! Not as crowded as what my friends mentioned.. Some even said Canon had priority in placement.. Thank God I was quite front of the stage and didn't get halau

and also the camera will not focus properly if the contrast is the same around the AF points

so if you focus on the white words there are chances that it wont focus

i heard that canon get free entrance to the stage

Yup, I was surprised when I saw a Canon counter around the ticketing counter for the Canon users too. But no doubt, Canon is one of the big sponsor for this event.

2470 mid range, all can be well extracted ma. But I saw a guy using 70200 in a very close range, trolololol.

I wonder why sometimes my camera (D90) does not respond when i press the shutter button right after the auto focus..

It happened quite often to my kits lens and prime lens.

Is this a sign that the shutter of my camera going to rosak ?

The 70-200 Nikon or Canon user? xD
Maybe me?
