I browsed thru some of the previous postings and noticed theres a confusion on Apple 'service centers'. A search thru Apple website yielded information as per below (cut and pasted from Apple website, hope i wont get sued for this). According to reliable sources , these ASPs have a KPI on a turnaround time of 7 days on any Mac related repair (East Malaysian AASP gets a longer period due to logistic issues).

Please bear in mind parts support are subjected to 5 years and after that they are relegated to be known as 'Vintage Model' whereby you may have to check with your local ASP for parts availability.

Who are they?

- Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs) are part of a network of Apple-authorized businesses that provide comprehensive support and repair services for Mac products.

AASPs employ Apple-certified technicians, who complete regular Apple training and assessments, so you can be confident you're getting help from qualified, experienced professionals.

Oh i just found out there is a way to get onsite service PROVIDED you have ACPP and theres an AASP nearby your area.....but i might incur the wrath of AASP if they see me posting it here hahaha.

You try ask applecare 1800 803 638 and let us know eh?

Service your own prolly they wont allow......they may ask if your interested to set up an AASP instead which would prolly run you rm200k-300k on the reno alone....i kid you not.

Hey mate, thanks for your effort in compiling that list... It'll be a great help for most of us! biggrin.gif

However, isn't there an authorized Apple Repairer located somewhere in PJ by the name of "Sapura Technology"? If I'm not wrong, when my previous iPod touch went into trouble, I contacted Apple's Tech Support hotline and they told me to send the unit there for replacement...

That was actually a couple of years back though, not sure whether Sapura is still on the Apple panel or not...

Actually that number of AASP for Central region is consider a lot already and AASP isnt really a megabuck earner.....i would bet some of them dropping off rather than that list increasing a lot. You have NO idea the investment involved and the ROi.

Whatever reason there is, there should be some new addition to the list in coming months.

Isn't MacStudio one of the Premium Resellers with an in-house Services & Support Center? I'm surprised they are not listed as one of the AASPs?

just proceed to AASP of you're sure your Mac is still under warranty.
receipt is not necessary if you've registered your Mac on Apple's Website

List has been edited to reflect new AASP.

To get certified as an ACMT, certifications.apple.com - need to be registered under one of the AASP.

Nothing can describe how much I'm dissatisfied with the service in Mac City One Utama. I sent my Mac to get the hardware problem fixed, but not collect it back with the same problem. There are a lot of miscommunication between the staffs and technicians. I had to contact them numerous times in order to get my service status updated. The first service was poor and didn't execute so well. I had to remind them that my certain button on keyboard are less RESPONSIVE, but not MALFUNCTION. They would told me that the keyboard have no problem and not able to diagnose this and that. From there, i know they did not perform a proper checkup on the hardware. But on the bright side, the did fix the bottom rubber feet that came off, which i have to emphasise before the collection. That being said, I've decided to collect back my partially unfixed Mac and send it to VR Technology. Mac City services are poor, seriously. They are very good at holding the customer's product who sent in for service, i've seen that happened a lot of customers while waiting for my turn. They would say i'll call you back on certain days, well that did not happen to me, except calling for collection (which my problem is not even fixed). All in all, i am not going to repurchase nor sent in my product for service to Mac City in the future. I hope Mac City will improve the quality of the services and staff training. Rating: 1/5

Apple Service Center have such bad service. This was what happen.

At Machine's Service Center at Midvalley
Me : Hi, I dropped my ipad. Can you fix it?
Technician : Ketuk a bit with his fingers. Have you tried to reset it?
Me : Yes
Techinican : In that case, we cannot do anything. You can pay for a new ipad 2 replacement.
Me : Can't you open up and have a look inside?
Technician : Sorry. It is against apple service center to open up the ipad.
Me : FINE

At a generic phone shop (My favourite phone shop actually)
Me : Hi, I dropped my ipad. Can you fix it?
Techician : Let me look at it. Give me 4 days time. You can have your ipad back by tuesday.
Me : Seriously?
Techinician : Sure. No problem. But it is going to cost you RM280.
Me : OK.

Moral of the story, don't go to apple service center. They are unreliable and hopeless. All they want from you is to suck your blood. mad.gif vmad.gif

AASP's are govern by Apple's procedures and need to be in compliance. Apple does not allow them to open an iPad and you may call Apple Hotline @ 1800 803 638 for verification.

my late 2008 15″ MacBook Pro started separating from the hinge and it is a known issue in different countries. there is a program to replace the lcd however it is ended on Dec 2013. I went to machine service center and they acknowledged that it was manufacture defect but they will not replace since the program is ended.
I check again the same blog that shares among countries, some of them stil get the replacement.he insists if I wan to replace I need to pay rm2320! thanks apple

Hi all,
Wanted to share my experience with 2 AASPs MacCity and VR recently.

I had my MacBook Retina Pro sent to MacCity recently when it failed to turn on after complete battery drain. The staff who attended me basically just tried to plug in the MagSafe, saw that the light on the magsafe was not on, and asked me to send it in for diagnosis which costs RM100. I demanded for other options as I didn't quite trust them (the first time I sent in, after service my macbook cannot detect any wifi card, and it turned out to be their problem after arguing). Anyway, that guy dismissed me with a vague remark like it can be due to anything, so I said that I wanted to make a call first.

When I return some 5 mins later he was away, but I saw a service request prepared for me already - even though I said I need to think through first. I asked another staff to help me retrieve another power cable for testing, this time the MagSafe indicator was on. And glad enough, the other staff was much more helpful and listened to me explaining my research from the net (blow the dust off the connectors, reset SMC, use a bigger watt charger etc.). He then helped me to troubleshoot and did some tests on my mac behind the reception. Although he still failed at the end, I didn't turn in my mac for service, but I was glad that he helped to clear some questions i had before.

The next day I went to VR technology and spoke to Sandy. She was very helpful and immediately she send my macbook to her technician. Within 10 mins or so, I found my MacBook turned on and running again. Without a cost! The technician helped me to reset the SMC (something we tried in MacCity as well but with the wrong keys), and that was all he did to fix my problem. They also helped me to do some basic tests and said that my macbook has no issues, so there is no need to send in for service, which was good news to me.

I would give VR a 2 thumbs up for fast response, friendliness and their expertise. As for MacCity, I will never go there again even though they are much nearer to me. While I don't believe all the staff there are bad, the bad apples do spoil the bunch.. 2 times in a row.

Mac city doesn't have experience in troubleshooting Macs to be honest.
they're hiring college graduates who have zero technical knowledge of Macs

Apple's standing on this is : device purchased thru carriers are to be sent back to carriers for warranty purposes. When in doubt, call 1800 803 638

The AASP is correct. They are instructed to only accept units sold thru Apple resellers, online store and authorised disti. They have very strict instructions not to accept carrier devices.

If i were the customer i would go to Celcom centre and demand to see the manager.

But as usual should the customer not able to get a satisfactory from carriers they will call AppleCare (1800803638) and in the end most likely will send the unit back to the AASP.

Hi guys, just like to share my bad experience with this AASP yesterday.

Summary:
Gave them my iPhone 5 (already outside warranty) to get a quote of how much to replace screen (slightly popped up) and sleep/wake button (not sensitive). They came out with my phone 5 mins later looking like an opened car bonnet and a missing home button. And they said that I gave them my phone without a home button and that with my swollen battery, they are unable to close back the phone properly.

No apology whatsoever. Both staff and manager have terrible customer service skills. The manager refuse to even come out and explain to me properly he just keep yelling to his staff to "explain to this customer who doesn't know and understand anything".

How can you send in something, before even repair already make it worse and with no guilt whatsoever. So angry.

It appears that a fellow forumer experienced something similar with his Mac. Read it here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3004825/all.

I've emailed a complaint to their HQ but no reply of course. Also called Apple Malaysia to complain and they did apologise. Now awaiting for Apple Singapore to call me back. Next would be to complain to FOMCA.

Not a matter of how big or small the damage. But a matter of principle. I want this AASP to have his license revoked or something. He's the only AASP in Sabah and that makes him bloody arrogant.

I had several problems of my MacBook Pro. And I went to Mid Valley's "MACHINE" to ask the worker if they can help me out. Their services are really nice. I have ever been to any "MACHINE" service as good as them.

Ppl like Harvey Norman and SenQ are consumer electronic outlets authorised by Apple. Not too sure about Harvey but SenQ iPhones are from Digi hence you have to send back to the telco for warranty issues. Other iOS devices or macs can be serviced by any ASP

Sorry for the late reply. For any warranty matters proceed direct to the service Center. If you go to the retail store they are doin it out of good will. Analogy is you bought your car from Toyota showroom , engine problem and you send it back to the showroom. Why would you do that? Commonsense to send to service centre hence the name service centre.

As long its listed you can bring it there. Should they decide to decline you service then you can inform them their location was listed on Apple's ASP Locator.

If i may ask, that price quoted by an ASP in KL? have you tried to ask other ASP? parts prices arent controlled by Apple. ASPs sets their own prices as long its reasonable so you may want to ask other ASPs.

If i were to compare between both these centers, which is better? I'm not really claiming warranty for my 2 weeks old MBPr but i just want to know if the pictures in the attachment are normal for a unit that has been charged twice only. Basically i want to email them the pictures to confirm if there's any issue/leakage with the unit.

I've been trying to call MacCity the whole day but no one is picking. I've not tried Midvalley's service center yet.

Never ever send to Mac City. Their service is atrocious. Staff is rude and unhelpful. Takes forever to get your machines back. You will regret it. In fact I've complained to AppleCare regarding their service. Funny thing is AppleCare senior service advisor also complained to me in how uncooperative Mac City are.

One example is I had called Applecare to get my iMac repaired under warranty. It was a home service where they come to the house and pick up your Mac and send it back when repaired. Mac City took 2 weeks to give me a call.

Go to VR Technologies. I had very good experience with them. Already had my iMacs, MacBook Pro repaired under apple care. Fast and responsive. Staff is courteous. The home repair was arranged within 1 day from the time I called AppleCare. No complains.

highly recommended for MBA/iMacs because they're under rm1k for the AppleCare. MBPs cost more.

Not trying to scare you but MBPs MainLogicBoards cost more than 2k to repair out of warranty. Even the display modules arent cheap.

Thanks for the insight, i did not know that they had a home service to pick it up. Is this specially for iMac only?

My unit has no issues but i was just wondering if that slight mark near the charging point is a problem. I thought of leaving it for now because i'm worried they will induce scratches on the unit while checking.

It's just that tiny mark under the charging point, seems more like a slight discoloration to me. I have no issues with the unit and thought of checking it within the one year of the warranty. The unit works perfectly fine so i don't want them to open and inspect it which might induce scratches.

Goto Apple.com.my website scroll down and click support.
You can now schedule them to call you back for a diagnostic. Just tell them you were outstation and couldn't make it back on time. I've seen they give grace period up to 14 days(don't quote me on that).
Good luck.

1)click this step 1 and scroll until the bottom, then click 'Get Support'
2)select 'repairs and physical damage'
3)select 'screen or display quality'
4)select schedule a call
5) enter your imei

after that follow instruction.
What will happen - instead of you goin physically to any service centre the first time and face uncertainty, Apple helps you to schedule a call back session - Yes Apple will actually call you back!
At the end of the session you should be given a Case ID. Take this Case ID to the preferred Service centre of your choice (determined during your phonecall as well) and just drop the phone together with the Case ID.
As far as i know Malaysian AASP at not obliged to provide spare phones to their customers. Depending on stock/model availlability the replacement (If Apple deems it is necessary to replace) may be between 1-14 days. I have experience receiving an iPhone6S replacement the next day. Your mileage may vary.

Disclaimer - Writer does not work for Apple and Apple has no obligation to replace your device based on whats is written above.

You may try but apple warranty policy applies to local units.

Unless you can convince Apple you're an American tourists with proper credentials

I just sent my slightly more than a year old Macbook pro for a battery replacement in Machines service centre at Mid Valley. Just found out here that no matter what the case the estimate given is always 21 days.

I hope the turnaround time is faster than that. I am feeling helpless now. Unfortunately they do not have the stock here and need to order from Singapore. Machines SVC looks more professional with a few counters vs the MacCity in 1U which is manned by 1 person.

I am betting on the system Machines has.

Phones turnaround time are shorter. If they happen to have the same SKU in stock very likely you'll get a replacement the same day or next business day.

Most AASP in MY does not stock old MBP battery parts, so usually the turnaround time is about 7-8 working days. Usually AASP adds a few days as a buffer to protect themselves incase theres a hiccup on logistics.....yes DHL and TNT screws up sometimes.

Depending on models. I know most will stock mbp 13/15 batteries and they dont change these like everyday.

Anyone dealt with Times Square AASP before?

Might go there tmrw to have a look at my MacBook having some charging issue

What are the SOP and how much must I carry as in will they ask for cash on the spot?

Also will they treat customers without Apple Care?

Mine expired 4 months ago and my laptop is 18 months old

Ask them what are the diagnostic charges. No one does charity and there are chargeable after the warranty lapses.

Hiya,
Just wondering whether there is a significant difference when purchasing any apple products from the so called "premium" reseller or "apple store"?
Eg:- in terms of quality and services?
I noticed that the non recognized shops are giving some promotion or feebies.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

its the same as Nike or Adidas

all items are original only different reseller. U can buy at their very own boutique or other sports shop like Sports Direct, JD, Stadium, Studio R etc

quality is the same as long it is original Apple product. They only sell, after sales service by Apple. And yes, u can claim warranty directly at any AASP like Machines, QCD etc, not necessary to claim warranty from where u buy, they will tell u the same thing which is by sending to any AASP

promotions may vary depending where u buy

I've got some problem with store who fixed my Mac. I don't know if the store under AASP or not but I hope it is related.

To cut it short;
My iMac is a vintage unit.
Middle year 2016: Give to them to fix my GPU (busted due to overheat).
End of year 2017: GPU got broke again. Give to another store to fix, and that store told me that GPU is not that clean (refer to attachment, the yellowish thing). Masking tape bersepah.

Is it standard thing to repair GPU ended with this condition as a final product?
If no, is anyone else got the problem with the same store.
Formerly the store name is IT Computer Solution, UIA (Gombak) branch. Now they are known as Mecnote Studio (or some document said Macnote Studio. I think this guy had identity crisis).

They don't want to be responsible as they said to me; "Your warranty is out of date", "You agreed with our term of services" (which supposedly include with good quality), "The tape on GPU is a normal practice for computer store".

Thanks for helping me.

* Note that I had report KPDNKK, not yet TTP (lack of support). But KPDNKK let them go as they didn't find any mistake on the day that they got spotchecked.

That yellow thing is just tape. They don't want the gray color stuff to overspill
