Natasha, are you a fresh graduate?
What position were you offered at Petronas and what position are you seeking at Murphy Oil?

Added on May 27, 2012, 11:28 pmSifus, I would like to ask something.

By the end of October, I'll have an accumulated 3 months leave which I must use by year end(including whole month of January) from the company I'm working for right now. If I don't use, forfeit.

I've been thinking, 3 months is an awfully long time to be out of office. I plan to work in another company (3 months contract) while on the 3 months leave with my current company.

Has anyone done this before?

P&ID - Process & Instrument Diagram
PID - Proportional Integral Derivative

P&ID mostly use by all party while PID only use by DCS engineer to tune the process.

Hi there, i just been called up for an interview for Mc Dermott in next week, any recommendation for the interview ? and how was the company background and benefit , will be very appreciate for the help. Thanks

Badyuan,

What position did you apply for?
McDermott has recently won a huge project called Siakap-North Petai (Murphy). They would need huge work force to cater the project needs and local based employees.
Last year, in the company I work for, I assisted at the bidding stage, but alas, we bid too high and lost. They will be involved in installation of subsea umbilicals, manifolds, jumper spools, etc.
This is a good chance for you, man. Experience is massive for this workscope...provided you stay until the end of the project.

Hmmm.....you'll have a clue once you get the job and ask the tendering department "Which other contractors bid for the Siakap-North Petai (SNP) job?" smile.gif
I don't want to disclose the company I work for here cause I don't know if I have my colleague in this forum too! haha

Yes. You'll be involved in EPCIC (engineering-procurement-construction-installation-commissioning) if I still remember correctly. What this means is that you'll be directly involved in some parts, if not all of :

1. Engineering - Design/Analysis of subsea installation, lifting, installation aids, etc
2. Procurement - You assist in getting all of #1 procured to CLIENT's and your specs.
3. Construction - (Most exciting part if you don't like office work) You get to monitor the installation aids (McDermott's part) being fabricated by the fabricator chosen in #2. Being in McDermott (specializes in subsea installation) you will be involved in SIT (site integration test) where the subsea hardware and umbilicals (electrics/hydraulics that make the subsea hardware operational) are being mock-tested for ROV (remotely operated vehicle aka robot) interface.
4. Installation - Go offshore for the actual subsea installation
5. Commission - Basically CLIENT's part with partial McDermott's participation.

Usually they impose workforce requirements where you must have at least a certain percentage of local based staff in project team.

So, if I were you, I'd get myself attuned to subsea engineering and installation as best I can. And keep mentioning about Siakap-North Petai during the interview.

I am not a sifu bro sorry but from what I can gather is for you to read your employment letter clauses. Some companies like mine does not allow for you to work in/for other companies without their approval.

McDermott is in Batu Ampar, Batam.
Fly to SG and take a 45mins ferry from Harbour Front jetty.
Stay around Nagoya.

Due to the leakages, inefficiencies and mediocre management of the lucrative fabrication and ship yard business there will come a time when Dialog or Muhibag will be able to catch up with the big boys. MMHE is partly managed by Technip now so there is a slight hope. In comparison with the Singaporean and Korean yards, we are nose to nose at the finish line but few laps behind.
*
Korean yards are excellent.
Just visited Hyundai Marine.
We definitely got to JV with SG or Korea not Technip.

You should go for Murphy oil interview so that you can have better picture on working environment that you will encounter later.. Murphy Oil (PSC) and Petronas (Client)..
Decide what you want to be in next 5 years, in challenging work environment and more exposure (Murphy Oil), or less challenging environment (Petronas).. biggrin.gif

that is my 50cent opinion..

I believe its depend on which project plan that you need to handle.. If the project up to engineering delivery, so you gonna plan up to there only.. If your project is EPCC, you gonna plan up to last C.. smile.gif

there is no different on planner work scope.. except the project..

Hi,i've been following this thread since V1, there are few doubts i would like to seek answer from honorable experienced master/sifus in OnG field,

1. I'm very much into flow assurance (FA). However, most of the companies wanted experienced flow assurance engineer. People i met from Intecsea started with graduate process engineer in RWP before becoming exp FA eng. Any chances i might skip the grad process engineer and get started as graduate FA engineer ?. Currently I'm working in one of the OnG operator (downstream) as process engineer with Chemical Engineering background.

2. Being an FA engineer, i understand that i need to well versed in several FA software such as OLGA, Pipesim, PVTsim and so on. Besides those mentioned software, any specific knowledge/ experience i should know about to become an competent FA engineer? I'm in a consideration to take Master in Petroleum Engineering at UTP. Does that Master paper able to help me to increase value in the future? to become an exp/competent FA engineer?

would appreciate any feedback from lowyat forumners....
