I am starting a shrimp nano tank (12 x 12 x 14) as well (3 weeks have pass)...
I am using 3L amazonia new soil min a low light / low maintenance tank (9w)...

I forgot to put in the 5 element...

I have as usual... nana... mini marselia (minuta)... corol moss...
as for co2 supplement...I am using seachem excel...
dosing seachem flourish and potassium...
I have 5 cherry and 5 crystal brown shrimp...

(out of the blue...I put in 10 tetra neon...now can not get them out... )

sooo...farrrr.....soooo...gooood...

need help, seems like its starting to be a really really hot season and im struggling to lower down my tank desperately and this fight has been rage for a week.
its now between 28-29.8 *C and im losing hope~
i have done all the actions below but still no good result;

1)clean my exisiting 2DIY fan, maybe the dust is the problem but no effect
2)putting 2 piece of ice in 15-30 minutes interval...temp did no budge... (using RO water for ice, hoping the temp flactuation wont stress or kills the bacteria,fishes and shrimps)
3)cutting down ligthing time, maybe the ligthing is the cause, but now (9.45pm) its 29.5 *C and increasing the 0.05 *C per 30 minutes...
4)put 2 tower fan infront of my tank and on at full blast at them during night and hopefully improve ventilation in removing hot air that surrounded my tank
5)open window day and night but not working since my room is the middle, so no sunlight and wind rarely comes to enter my room
6)installing 2 filter, one using spray bar, hopefully the height will lower the water temp before coming back into the tank and another using like those lily type effect, fast flow to regulate water efficiently
7) did several water change, but since the house tank water is a bit warm, the temp in tank rose more quickly..

any other suggestions? plz, "no chiller idea" or " shout for me to buy a chiller" or "poison me with a chiller solution tactic" at the moment ok?
stuff that i still havent tried but will proceed if i cant do anything else.. :

1) gonna install another 4 new set of DIY PC fans(a total 6 fan in 1.ft tank lol)..but need to buy additional fans, adapters already got
2) using a frozen bottle and let it float in my tank..so it will last longer and fish wont get shock since they melt slower instead of using direct cold water for WC purpose (but temp flactuation is still a concern to me)
3) submerge half my cannister filter in a tray filled with ice...new output water will be chill slightly in theory but bacteria may die..
4) going to put full blast of air pump with airstone, if they shows sign of decreasing the temp, will add another air pump+ air stone too (theory i learnt: warm water=less o2, more o2=cooler water)

any more ideas?

Gonna pick up some drift wood gonna do my research see where to look hahaha

install an AC in your room...or set up a ventilation fan at your window so that cold air can go in n hot air can go out....or...since u love DIYing, why dont u make this

AC in my room currently kaputt...
stupid carrier brand...they said "we dont make these model anymore for the last 11 years, so we cant help replacing your AC processor spare part" duh..~still not my fault!

was thinking of making ventilation fan before joining this hobby, but the thought of drilling the wall and the troublesome of cleaning the dust between the blade and the insect net is bothersome. insect net is a must since not for the mosquito, but for the roaches..i hate/geli at them, they always attack me..

read the DIY before, thinking of making it, but need someone who can assist me with that...cant do that alone, my electronic skills are bit rusty

tried using airpump+airstone with minimum setting speed = -0.01*C
so up the speed = -0.03*C
now adding 2 airpump + airstones both with maximum speed = -0.06*C
now still 29.2*C

hurm 1 airpump+airstone work i guess, it dropped and its so so 28.5 *C

my tank also fluctuates from 27.5 to 30.1 celcius...terrible..previously i had 25-27, n since this month, its 27.5-30.1..

could u share with me how to DIY a fan?

i was wondering, is it possible, to do stg like this..
- i have a air bubble already. is it possoble to put a valve control to a 3-tier n put in additional 2 tube with the air stone?will it reduce the temp in there with 1 adapter/motor?

I'm in apartment... at the moment my 2ft tank maintaining at 27.0*C
got 1 fan blowing at 25* angle to have more surface area

now I'm worring my 4x2x2 feet tank is very warm maybee look at chiller solution.... sad....

brief explanation lol:
u only need x1 12V AC to DC adapter(can use phone charger, laptop charger,modem adapter, astro adapter or can buy it from shop), x1 DC 12V fan(can buy from shop if you want, can salvage from rosak computer, or computer PSU), a connector(recommended, but you will need a screw driver) or can use a solder iron if youre good at it. thats it, all is left is connect the 2 wires from both of the item. black with black and red with red or red with black +little white stripe wire. after all that, you just need an idea on how to hook that thing without that thing falling into the tank and elecrifying the inhabitants~

u can try, and check the temperature later..do share the results


sigh, now i know the source of the massive heat~
its not bcos of the weather since these few months they only up 1*C only, but now reaching 29-30 from 26 is due to my laptop...
bloody hell and i wasted buying those expensive cooler master cooling pad with 4 fans in it still failed to cooldown my 18.5" monster lmao~!!

btw, just fed my fishes and shrimps orange..lol they like it.. but afraid of it may pose danger so fed them little bit, the size of an earphone plug

good news: i found some assassin snails at pets wonderland today. only selling Rm2 !!!
bad news: those assassin snails are trapped inside small container and seller dont even know it kills other snails for food. Faster grab them before they are sold out !! or dead

is it at EA midvalley?... saw it yesterday there too...
